'Empire' star Jussie Smollett attacked in possible hate crime

“Empire" actor Jussie Smollett was attacked in the early morning hours on Tuesday in what Chicago police are calling a possible hate crime.

Smollett was attacked by two people "yelling out racial and homophobic slurs" and "poured an unknown chemical substance on the victim," police said.

According to police, one of Smollett's alleged attackers also put a rope around his neck. Both fled the scene.

Smollett took himself to Northwestern Hospital and "is in good condition," police told CNN.

Later Tuesday, CNN's Don Lemon spoke to Smollett and a mutual friend who was at the hospital with the actor. Smollett confirmed the incident took place.

He was shaken and angry that an attack like this could happen. Smollett told CNN he fought back at the attackers.

"Given the severity of the allegations, we are taking this investigation very seriously and treating it as a possible hate crime," the police statement said.

Smollett has starred on Fox's "Empire" since 2015. He plays Jamal, a successful singer in the musical Lyon family. Like his character, Smollett identifies as gay.

"We are deeply saddened and outraged to learn that a member of our 'Empire' family, Jussie Smollett, was viciously attacked last night," a representative of 20th Century Fox Television and Fox Entertainment said in a statement to CNN. "We send our love to Jussie, who is resilient and strong, and we will work with law enforcement to bring these perpetrators to justice. The entire studio, network and production stands united in the face of any despicable act of violence and hate -- and especially against one of our own."

A representative for GLAAD told CNN the organization has reached out Smollett to offer assistance and support.

"Jussie is a true champion for LGBTQ people and is beloved by the community and allies around the world," a GLAAD spokesperson said in a statement.

Speaking of Reddit, it's great right now. /r/news has completely turned on him, although they're usually the most reasonable politics sub on reddit. /r/politics is silent on this, as figured. t_d is posting memes. The absolute best place to go for people melting down is /r/blackfellas and /r/blackladies, it's a goldmine. The amount of justifications and double think there is incredible. Chapo is claiming the police are lying, so at least they're being consistent.

I suggested it as more of a thought experiment rather than something the cops would ever realistically do.

Not even close to what entrapment actually is. That would just be them playing Jussie for a fool and solidifying his own fucking which is 100% legal to do. Entrapment requires them to forcibly coerce you into doing something you don't want to do like making Mr Rogers go deliver 3lb delivery of meth or you'll arrest his ass. They have had more threads on it since then, pretty certain, at least one anyway: a couple of days ago I saw this one (removeddit / ceddit). Downvoted into hell now, though at the time I first saw it it was upvoted heftily.

One fun tangent from that Reddit post via Andy Ngo on Twitter, an accounting on numerous hoax anti-Trump hate crimes. A bunch of wacko indoctrinated college students seem to dominate that list, no surprise. What really should be a focus of investigation is what is being taught at those universities.

To be fair both his acting and music are terrible, no one but vapid people watching Empire even knew who he was. Has anyone else checked out his music? When that news outlet called him a goat-warbler a few years ago they weren't lying, he cannot sing. It's no surprise that he was dropped by his record label and forced to start his own independent label for his last album, and no surprise that Empire has tried to nix his ass twice now. The racist scumbag Jussie Smollett is a loser that will only be remembered for being a piece of shit who couldn't act and couldn't sing so he had to manufacture victimhood to get attention.

If one good thing came from this its that so many people have seen how vital local news outlets are. The great work by Rafer Weigel, Rob Elgas, Charlie De Mar, and CWB Chicago have made every major news outlet look like hacks, and have further exposed to 10s to 100s of thousands of people that those major news outlets are bonafide propaganda machines that primarily serve one specific group of special interests. At least at the local level there are some real, honest journalists still left.

Smollet wouldn't be the first example. There's a long list of them at this point, all the way back to the Muslum women claiming roving bands of white men in MAGA hats were ripping hijabs off their heads back in 2016.

But none of that will ever get acknowledged, because you simply CAN'T lend authenticity that not everyone white and in a MAGA hat isn't a KKK member and a neo nazi.
