'Empire' star Jussie Smollett attacked in possible hate crime

“Empire" actor Jussie Smollett was attacked in the early morning hours on Tuesday in what Chicago police are calling a possible hate crime.

Smollett was attacked by two people "yelling out racial and homophobic slurs" and "poured an unknown chemical substance on the victim," police said.

According to police, one of Smollett's alleged attackers also put a rope around his neck. Both fled the scene.

Smollett took himself to Northwestern Hospital and "is in good condition," police told CNN.

Later Tuesday, CNN's Don Lemon spoke to Smollett and a mutual friend who was at the hospital with the actor. Smollett confirmed the incident took place.

He was shaken and angry that an attack like this could happen. Smollett told CNN he fought back at the attackers.

"Given the severity of the allegations, we are taking this investigation very seriously and treating it as a possible hate crime," the police statement said.

Smollett has starred on Fox's "Empire" since 2015. He plays Jamal, a successful singer in the musical Lyon family. Like his character, Smollett identifies as gay.

"We are deeply saddened and outraged to learn that a member of our 'Empire' family, Jussie Smollett, was viciously attacked last night," a representative of 20th Century Fox Television and Fox Entertainment said in a statement to CNN. "We send our love to Jussie, who is resilient and strong, and we will work with law enforcement to bring these perpetrators to justice. The entire studio, network and production stands united in the face of any despicable act of violence and hate -- and especially against one of our own."

A representative for GLAAD told CNN the organization has reached out Smollett to offer assistance and support.

"Jussie is a true champion for LGBTQ people and is beloved by the community and allies around the world," a GLAAD spokesperson said in a statement.

No. And that's what makes this laughable. Jussie isn't even smart enough to realize that it's not the 1970's anymore and a fucking HP inkjet is just as anonymous these days. No criminal would bother with clipping letters like a film noir villain.

I'd take it even further and call it cartoonish. Bugs Bunny fashioning a random note for himself to throw off Elmer Fudd is more recent than the films and books that idea came from.

I want them to play The Merry-Go-Round Broke Down as he's led away after his sentencing.

Speaking of Reddit, it's great right now. /r/news has completely turned on him, although they're usually the most reasonable politics sub on reddit. /r/politics is silent on this, as figured. t_d is posting memes. The absolute best place to go for people melting down is /r/blackfellas and /r/blackladies, it's a goldmine. The amount of justifications and double think there is incredible. Chapo is claiming the police are lying, so at least they're being consistent.

I saw a forensic files where they forensically tied a letter to the printer it was printed on. Not to mention, there's going to be digital evidence on the machine/network it was printed from. Maybe just don't be a spastic and send threatening letters.

It is really unfortunate. We could have all been laughing at all the terrible acting. I can only imagine how serious these three “actors” took their little MAGA performance and no one will ever see it.

I bet Jussie was fuming about that camera facing the wrong way. If only it had captured their brilliantly performed attack no one would be questioning his story. The video would gone super viral and made him the most famous black homo in the USA. The SOJUS accolades, invites and awards would pour in.

Instead he was left giving a bad solo performance to CPD cops with a dumbass clothesline hanging around his neck.

Not to mention your average household doesn't have expired magazines lying around like a doctor's office anymore even if they wanted to do it that way, used to be that Mom had her's, Dad had his, and the kids had one, so it was a common assigned art project at schools for kids to make a themed mural or something from magazines "at home". Now, if those publishers and titles even exist, they're online.

Should it be a surprise a very very dumb and short-sighted actor when tasked with creating a story himself, falls back on the stereotyped plots of his industry that are in some cases 30 years out-of-date?

I really don't think this one is gonna get memory hole'd, too many people on both sides have been following it from the beginning, and it only gets funnier and funnier

It would've been an interesting experiment if the police had conducted a ruse in which they offered up two white police officers as "suspects", and then watched how far Jussie Smollett was willing to go along with the prosecution of two people he knew full well were completely innocent.

Just like the lying redskin who would've gleefully saw the Covington kid's lives ruined by his bullshit, I'll bet Jussie Smollett would've merrily watched innocent victims fry for his lies.
