Gotta disagree with you there. A crime that takes place is still a crime, even if it is severely under-reported. Japan has a massive stalking problem as well and too many people have been stabbed to death as a result. The west has more sympathy for victims of sex crimes. East Asia in general has extremely repressive societal standards and people act out or end up harming others as a result.
I don't know if the term "Used Goods" was originally from Japan, but I heard it in anime before hearing it from other sources.

That is actually fair, but we're also speculating about unreported crimes. Going by reported crimes alone the MiddleEast is paradise and the west is actually the rape hell. We can't actually know the real numbers on this ever.

Going by perception - I feel as though 99% of Japanese women at the very least feel safe enough to go outside at night and the issue is mostly power dynamics at work and families like it is in most western countries.

100% agree. Watch nipponese news for a while and you'll see some shocking patterns tbh. I'm not a feminist by any means but the nips treat women like garbage. Prostitution is endemic, sugar daddy/papakatsu relationships are normalized. When they find a single mom naked and brutalized at the side of the road they just chalk it up to whoring and close the case.

It's also telling that Japanese women just cuck out and do nothing about those issues. Compare that to South Korea, which also has the same issue of treating women like shit, goes so far that feminists movements have popped up there, to the point of have Gender Wars that are even more toxic than in the West.

No, in the US if you say that insulin shouldn't be expensive you're accused of promoting literal communism, so the US is way worse in this regard.
Right, but here's the conundrum. They outright refuse to curb either taxes, or funding for government healthcare for a short period. They keep coming up with ridiculous short term plans that either backfire or make zero sense. Issue I have is them not touching the social welfare fund they got but their argument is "well its for the future, not now."

Let alone the fact Japan is increasingly becoming a surveillance state but that’s not an exclusive issue to Japan to begin with.
QRD? This is the one issue I haven't heard about until seeing it in this thread. What flavor of surveillance are the Japs inflicting on themselves?

Japan just needs Jesus. Christianity has worked every time it has been tried.

Inlining everything and folding every service and data into a single card. The MyNumber card. Making it our social security, government insurance, and drivers license and have a mileage program tied to it.

Also heavy CCTV monitoring and increase in state eroding civil liberties. Preemptive crime curbing with said CCTV monitoring.

The gender war is also caused by the insane competitiveness of SK society. But that's a topic for the South Korea sucks thread (oooh boy does it suck).
SK Sucks, China Sucks, Japan Sucks. What part of East Asia doesn’t suck? Macao?

The South Korean gender war also comes from that country having a unique history with slavery and sexism.

During the Joseon dynasty Korea had widespread slavery and most of the slaves were women. Women were expected to do most of the physical labor and household work. The household was segregated with the women having their own shittier part of the house. The few European/Americans who visited the hermit kingdom made note of the men literally doing no work and just watching the women do everything. Women were forbidden from writing, had to tolerate multiple wives and could not remarry after being widowed. They had to wear clothing that was more restrictive than the Burqa and marrying off a woman required paying a dowry so most families were also pushed by material conditions to hate their daughters. Men could also divorce their women by just saying "I divorce you" and reasons for divorce could just be that they were annoying. Them being divorced leading to destitution and slavery.

They basically took the Confucian hierarchy system and committed 1000% to it. Women ranked lower so they did everything. Unironically worse than the Taliban on womens rights and the Confederacy on slavery.

You really can't take Korea and use it to make commentary on the rest of East-Asia. That place is always next level and Japan had nothing like this.

As a non-weeb who ended up living in near-present-day Japan for a long time, I'd like to point out that any strong differences you perceive between Japan and the rest of globohomo are pretty much imaginary.

They're just like us but with cuter girls, tiny dudes, and good manners—with a few exceptional characteristics that are weakening every day.

Contrary to the thread, I'd say that the most notable difference in my everyday life was that Japan remembers old America more than America does. (I'm a musician and a writer, so maybe that's unique.)

They are our posterity.

Good manners is what old America had. I'm kind of fascinated by Americana as a syrupean, and always blown away at how quaint and polite America seemed until the cultural revolution in the 60s. Used to be a place where you'd get hassled for having a messy haircut or an untucked shirt.

Japan is peak escapism for weirdos who live in blighted, trash ridden first world cities.
