But I love answering questiooooooonssss. :l

Why do you have such a focused resentment towards porn artists? You are aware that there are female porn artists as well, who do a lot more than just draw boobs at different angles.

Keep in mind, I went to art school. I got my AA in animation. I've peddled my artwork at cons and I got paid big time for writing a comic. I don't have much experience in the industry, sadly, but I probably have more than you.

Also, this is relevant:

Because it happens to be my medium. Drawing. And it doesn't matter what gender the person is or what the specifics are. Porn is porn.

And you went to art school, and now work in the art field. That's... kinda my plan. ...

So uh..yeh.

Also I'm aware of societies obsession with money, but I just don't fall in that category... sorry. (I'm not a communist, btw)

You obviously don't because you don't put them into practice. I'm going to take a look at your Genesis picture:
genesis_by_thecunningcondor-d89l0vf.jpg

Firstly, the anatomy on the human is incorrect. Badly. Especially on the arm and fingers. You change the perspective at random. The angle we view under the chin, on the collar bone, under the nose and under the arm are all different from each other. You do not have a single perspective point. The layering of the hair does not make any sense. No effort was put in making the apple look even remotely round. And for the love of god don't get me started on that tree. It's as though you've never drawn one. You think you know what it looks like but you don't seem to have actually studied it. Lastly, the shading. There's no clear direction to tell where the light is coming from. And with the tools at your disposal I can make a bold statement that you've never handled charcoal before or even the basics of graphite.

Forget understanding digital media. You need to understand basics. You need to know them like the back of your hand. I don't care if you've been offered jobs, TJ Church has supposedly been published though he has never proved this. I understand if you're doing this simply as a hobby and if you're self taught I understand even more but you need to improve much more than you think you do. You are letting your pride get ahead of your art. Writing all of this off just because you don't want to do it is just avoidance of a material you don't want to do.

I'm an animation major. I know what I'm talking about. Even if you want to remain humble and do this for fun or to spread a message you are still going to be judged by your skill and believe me, if you presented your work in a portfolio to any major art college, you'd be laughed out.

Does this not fall back on what you just said? That it is simply "not your cup of tea"?
You can choose to call BS on this, but often times, I alter proportions and anatomy intentionally to add more... layers to the puzzle. You actually came pretty close with one of your first sentences. Trust me when I say this... everything in this little quick drawing is done intentionally. It's how I work. Think of why certain things are the way they were.

When I make art like this, it's not meant to simply be "looked at". Also, some places have already showed interest in me (I made somewhat of an impression), but it's finance that's keeping me from going right now. I have a day job tho, so.. yay.

But as for Genesis, I want you to really study each little tidbit and try and think of why they are the way they are.

I'm just saying your attitude towards getting compensated for your artwork smacks of naivety. It shows you're a greenhorn. You lack discipline. You come off as pretentious.

Also, you never answered my question about the line between art and smut, and what makes something smut. I'm hoping for something specific.

Here's one: Do you realise we're all basically predators about to ambush you and were all waiting for a time to strike at one weak reply to catalyse a controversy?
Why would you admit to being predators? That's unusual. But anyway, again, I'm just here to clear up any confusion of provide clarity as to my unorthodox ways or art and shit like that.

What I do, I do for a reason. Granted not everyone will understand it, but it's to be expected. I like what I do and will continue to do it.

I can understand how I can come off as pretentious. Hence why I encourage people to ask me about it before jumping into attack mode. I don't make these decisions to look superior. I make these decisions because that's just hoe I personally prefer to work.

Art is very broad. It'd take a while to explain what art as a whole is. I'm trying to answer everyone. But you get the idea. Smut is brainless, unimaginative depictions of people/things meant only to appeal to the labido. It's simple to make as opposed to other art forms.

I'm not encouraging avoidance of skill. Just not to stress over it as much as the art world likes to tell us to. You should make art because you enjoy it, not because it's what pays your rent. (but be good at what you do, and don't make lackluster blech)
If even get into a respectable art school you are going to have one hell of a wake up call when you've racked up your debt just so you might get that internship and somehow come home to heat in your two room apartment.

I highly, highly doubt scribbling the shade onto the tree like a 2nd grader is suppose to add some under lying depth to this picture and to be brutally honest I think you're starting to make up this shit up as you go. Like what @Meowthkip said, your attitude towards this concerns me. Especially if you actually want to take this seriously. You aren't going to change if you're so stuck in your ways that your work is the deepest statement that's been created for the likes of humanity.

What on earth does this mean?
Ooooooh dawgy.

Okay so, while visual art is of course meant to be looked at, anything can be "looked at". I prefer the kind of art that makes the viewer think. Gets their imagination up n runnin'. I like the kind of art that can inspire all sorts of different ideas from all sorts of different viewers. Much more imaginative than a run of the mill landscape, in my opinion.

I don't really see how you can reconcile this with your own pieces. Most of them are just simple cartoons of girls. They're brainless, unimaginative depictions of people/things that can't even manage to appeal to the libido. I'm not exactly seeing any surrealist masterpieces in your dA gallery.

I admit that if for whatever reason I find myself in some financial crisis, resorting to comissions will be a last resort thing.

Also, as for the tree... that wasn't shading. Or texturing. Also, you have every right to call BS on this, but I personally am not comfortable with the concept of lying. I feel it needlessly complicates matters. Thus, I tend to be blunt with my honesty. Thus, I tend to be somewhat of a rude asshole to some people. But I'm avoiding that here.

As an artist, I'm always changing. All the time. I like to keep things kind of unpredictable. I wouldn't upload seemingly simple stuff like Helix if it didn't have a deeper purpose, y'know? I don't like wasting time.

You come off as hella pretentious. Looking down your nose at smut artists, lumping it all together regardless of skill, a general disdain for pornography and those who enjoy it in general...

It just comes off as dickish.

I will admit that a lot of my recent drawings have been of females, and I feel that this is kind of me subconciously proving to myself that a girl drawing doesn't have to be sexualized. I've been meaning to distance from this, but it keeps coming up. :/

Also they aren't supposed to appeal to the labido. That's the idea. Also, I never claimed that I made masterpieces. I'm still young in life. I got all the time in the world to improve and learn yo.

I can understand that. But those who study me thoroughly find that I spend more time admiring artists I look up to than bashing the smut doodlers. Negativity tends to be louder than positivity even when the latter is more abundant.

That's funny because I looked at your art and it's all pretty much the same shallow drivel throughout your career.
I don't think you like me.

So what I'm getting from this thread is you're drawing badly on purpose then? Also you are far from humble kid, honest or not, no one likes that.

Okay, to repeat a question Saney had, in the comic strips that made it to this thread, the "woman" character was ditzy, superficial, or promiscuous. I can't speak for the rest of your art, but is ALL of it like that? If so, why?

Just because I make some stuff with hidden stuff in them doesn't mean I'm not allowed to make something silly here and there. Naked People is just what it appears to be. A silly thing. I don't intend to blow minds with these. Jeez.

I don't think you're getting what I'm saying dude. I know you don't intend them to be erotic. What I'm saying is that you don't really have a leg to stand on when you criticise other artists when you yourself aren't producing anything particularly skilful or creative. Unless, of course, the only problem you have with erotica is that its erotic, not that its devoid of artistic content. Thats what I'm starting to feel you really think.
