Infowars found Alex Jones arrested, charged with DWI in Travis County
The 46-year-old was booked at the Travis County Jail just after 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

AUSTIN, Texas — Austin resident and Infowars founder Alex Jones was charged with driving while intoxicated and taken to the Travis County Jail on Tuesday, the Travis County Sheriff’s Office told KVUE.

The 46-year-old was booked at the jail just after 12:30 a.m., the sheriff's office said. His charge is a class B misdemeanor.

Jones’s bail was set at $3,000 and he was released on bond around 4 a.m. on Tuesday morning, according to the sheriff's office.

Jones is known for his role at Infowars, which has come under fire for pushing disinformation.

As an avid ex-Alex Jones listener I find this news highly depressing. It is clear he has extreme alcoholism and is probably on a death path.

Jones was pulled over Monday night in Travis County for speeding 45 mph in a 40-mph zone.

This is where I gotta call bullshit on Infowars (yeah, I know).

Austin cops are so lazy, they rarely pull people for doing twice that. In reverse.

The paperwork shows that Jones admitted to drinking a small amount of sake at a Japanese restaurant

Alex Jones weeb status: CONFIRMED

No, don't bring him into the police station, that's what he wants you to-

According to what he's saying on his show he was let go, and that he had drank sake an hour beforehand.

The Jews truly do fear the samurai.

No comment on Alex Jones himself, but on DUI. That threshold of .08 is very easy to achieve with just a few drinks, especially if consumed in a short period of time. It's a legal presumption of being intoxicated, although if you're a regular drinker, you're not "drunk" at that level. His other mistake was agreeing to take the "roadside sobriety tests." Those are made for you purposefully to fail; ALWAYS REFUSE to take them because the only thing you are doing is giving the police more evidence to use against you. If the cop goes all "So you are refusing a DUI test?" politely say "No, I will willingly take a blood/breath test but I'm not going to try to dance for you here on the street so you can use it against me." There is no law requiring you to submit to the roadside test and trust me, doing so will not work in your favor. Most of them you'd have trouble doing sober, add the stress of being pulled over and the police telling you to do silly things, like recite the alphabet backwards, and you're already set for failure. The "smelled of alcohol" and "redness of the eyes" are the other two standard lines that get put on every DUI arrest ever made.

Unbeknownst to many, blowing under that magical .08 doesn't always clear you either. In my state, there is DUI for blowing over the limit and DWI that you can be charged with blowing under the limit. Guess what? They both carry the same penalties, license suspension, fines, etc. So technically, you could have two or three beers while watching a sports game at the bar (wherever), blow a .04, and STILL get DWI even though you weren't over the limit.

The whole thing is a shitty racket between MADD, the police and lawyers. There's lots of money to be made! While I don't advocate anyone driving truly drunk, there is a huge difference between an old high school friend of mine, a raging alcoholic, that blew 3.8 (almost legally dead!) on a traffic stop and a casual drinker that blows at or under .08. The limit used to be a standard 1.0 and nationwide, it's been driven down to .08 because it's easier to get a conviction in court.

Know your DUI rights in your state. Understand them. Don't be afraid to cite them when needed during a traffic stop. Be honest about how much you had to drink and what you ate with the officer - "I had three beers during the game and a hamburger with fries (or whatever)." Unless you're falling down and slurring your words and stink of whisky, there's a good chance you'll be on your way, unless the cop just has a hard-on for you or you violated other traffic laws as part of the stop.

Dude should have stuck to the filtered water.

Also heartily endorse what Slappy McGherkin said above. You have to give a breath sample or you'll get a year's suspension AND they'll still do a blood draw, but you do not have to and should not do the FST. I rarely drink and am in good shape, and I'd probably "fail" the heel-to-toe most days.

In this day and age that is bad advice. With body cams or body mic+dashcams if you admit to having ANY drink they will have to bring it to the next level.
If you admit on tape to drinking and then they just let you go and later you wreck guess who is getting sued? The cops.
And even if you don't wreck. If their CO ever reviews the tape and sees they didn't get you out to further evaluate you after admitting to drinking that cop is going to have some explaining to do.

Nothing personal, but I disagree. The only thing that matters in a court of law is your level of intoxication at the stop. You blow over, you're fucked. You blow under, you can still get fucked, but not as likely. Experience talking here. It is not illegal to go have a couple of beers.

Knowing you are within your rights, regardless of body cams only reinforces your position.

As said, if you are slobbering drunk, that's one thing. If you are 3 beers into your night, that's another.

There are a lot of peeps that get DUI'd simply because they don't know how the game is played.

Thats fine, I'm not taking anything personal.
I am speaking from experience in my state.
If you get pulled over by the state police on any interstate or state road then your being recorded. For now dashcam+body mic. Soon full bodycam. This has removed any discretion the officer had in the matter. If you say you have been drinking then your WILL be taken out of the car and asked to do a field sobriety test. Which i agree with you is best to refuse. And if you think you may blow .08* then your better off refusing that also and let them detain and transport you for blood. All that takes lots of time and time is your friend there.

So in my state if you get pulled over and the officer asks "have you been drinking?" You always say NO. If you don't seem impaired then he happily hands you your speeding ticket and sends you down the road.
If you say "yes but I only had...." then you better cancel the plans you had for the rest of the night.
That is how the game is played here.

(*) if you have a CDL then its .04. Even if your just driving your personal toyota prius. Under 21 then .02.
