Indian man arrested for possessing a forged alien resident card​


BUFFALO, N.Y. - U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo announced today that Swapnil Ramesh Tejale, 34, a citizen of India, was arrested and charged by criminal complaint with possession of a forged alien resident card, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael J. Smith, who is handling the case, stated that according to the complaint, on July 10, 2025, the Niagara Falls Border Patrol Station received a request from the Niagara Falls Police Department to help identify three individuals that they had encountered during a traffic stop. Agents arrived at the scene and questioned the three individuals as to their citizenship. Tejale presented a Lawful Permanent Resident Card but voluntarily admitted that the card was fictitious. It was determined that Tejale was illegally present in the United States without any immigration documents that would allow him to remain in the country lawfully. After Tejale was taken into custody, agents located a Social Security Card in his name. Record checks verified that the Social Security Card was also fictitious.

This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime.

The complaint is the result of an investigation by the U.S. Border Patrol Niagara Falls Station, under the direction of Patrol Agent in Charge Brady Waikal.

Cockroaches found on Air India flight from San Francisco​

Air India is apologizing after a recent flight out of San Francisco International Airport had cockroaches onboard.

The Mumbai-bound flight had two passengers reporting they spotted the pests on the plane, a spokesperson for the airline said.

The plane got a deep cleaning during a scheduled fuel stop in India's Kolkata.

Air India provided the following statement:

"Despite their regular fumigation efforts, insects can sometimes enter an aircraft during ground operations. Air India will be undertaking a comprehensive investigation to determine the source and the cause of this incident and implement measures to prevent recurrence."

Medical education scam busted, involves high officials​

In a sweeping operation that has shaken India’s medical education sector, the country’s premier investigation agency, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), has unearthed what is believed to be one of the largest medical education corruption cases in the country’s history.

Prominent Indian ex-MP gets life sentence for rape​

A court in southern India has sentenced a prominent politician in the state of Karnataka to life in prison after being found guilty of raping one of his domestic staff.

The sentencing of Prajwal Revanna, who is from an influential political family in the state, took place on Saturday - a day after he was convicted of sexually assaulting his former employee.

The allegations against the 34-year-old former Indian MP first came to light in 2023 after hundreds of explicit videos featuring him started circulating on social media, causing outrage across the country.

Revanna had denied the charges. On Friday, he broke down and pleaded for a lesser punishment when he was found guilty.

Indian national on student visa sentenced in Texas on money laundering charges​

On Wednesday, the U.S. Department of Justice said an Indian national living in the U.S. on a student visa was sentenced on a charge of conspiracy to commit money laundering.

According to the DOJ, 20-year-old Kishan Rajeshkumar Patel, of Navsari, Gujarat, received a 63-month sentence for the charge.

The justice department said Patel helped defraud elderly victims out of hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash and gold from July 2024 through August 2024.

“The conspiracy used various online phishing methods and impersonated U.S. government officials, while Patel fraudulently received the cash and gold from victims, conveying a portion to co-conspirators and keeping a percentage for his own benefit,” the DOJ said.

According to the justice department, an investigation determined the scheme defrauded at least 25 victims, with a total intended loss of at least $2,694,156.

The Granite Shoals Police Department arrested Patel on Aug. 24, 2024.

“This defendant took advantage of his visa status in our country and participated in an international fraud scheme,” said U.S. Attorney Justin Simmons for the Western District of Texas. “Patel defrauded vulnerable American citizens out of millions of dollars by impersonating government officials and preying on his victims’ fears of adverse government action. [This] sentence demonstrates the federal government’s commitment to prosecuting the perpetrators of such nefarious schemes and achieving justice for the victims.”

Imagine this guy walking into your police department and saying, "saar, I am Indian will you help me do visa scam?" And you say yes and risk your career, reputation and pension for a street-shitter. 3 cops did just that!

US visa fraud: Indian-origin man, 4 cops indicted in U-visa fraud involving fake crime reports​

An Indian-origin businessman in Louisiana has been indicted as the alleged mastermind of a large-scale visa fraud racket that spanned nearly a decade and involved fabricated police reports to help undocumented immigrants secure U-visas in the United States.

Federal prosecutors say the scheme, led by Chandrakant “Lala” Patel, also implicates four Louisiana law enforcement officers, three of them active police chiefs, who allegedly took bribes to falsify armed robbery reports that never occurred.

The indictment, unsealed earlier this month in Shreveport, charges the five accused with 62 criminal counts, including conspiracy to commit visa fraud, bribery, mailing false documents, and money laundering. If convicted, they could face decades in prison.

The case has drawn widespread attention amid broader immigration enforcement actions under the Donald Trump administration, which has been working to eliminate visa loopholes used by undocumented immigrants.

According to U.S. Attorney Alexander C. Van Hook, the group created a pattern of “armed robberies of people who were not from Louisiana," except that the crimes never actually happened. “There had been an unusual concentration of armed robberies of people who were not from Louisiana,” Van Hook said, adding that police officials were paid $5,000 for each name they helped add to fake reports.

Wisconsin couple loses over $500,000 in gold coin scam, Indian college student from Canada arrested​

A scam sweeping the country has drained the bank accounts of more than 50 people in Wisconsin, with a New Berlin couple losing over $500,000 in gold coins before police intervened.

A criminal complaint says a New Berlin couple called the number, thinking they had a virus. The person who answered claimed to be a man named "Scott Bessent," the U.S. Treasury Secretary. Another man claimed to be David Freeman, identifying himself as a special agent with the Treasury Department, the complaint states. A criminal complaint says the man told the pair they were victims of a "massive scheme" and they needed to convert their cash to gold to protect their assets.

The couple "...realized they had been scammed and then came to the police department," the complaint states. New Berlin police set up a sting, going to pick up the gold coins, instead filling the box with rocks, and waiting with the victim while police said Roshan Shah picked them up.

Prosecutors say Shah parked at the Speedway gas station near 124th Street and Oklahoma Avenue in West Allis, and police swooped in and arrested him.

The complaint states he told police he was taking orders from a person named "Montu" who instructed him where to go to pick up gold bars. Shah, according to the complaint, is originally form India but is going to college in Canada.
