Alright, I've had some time to play the full version of the game and it does play better than the demo. The expanded enemy types are nice and it makes me wonder why some of these were not in BOTW to begin with. So far I've only fussed around with Mipha but she's pretty good. And! The biggest surprise was that the Divine Beast gameplay is both fun and satisfying. I thought it was going to be pretty lame but it is a very welcome addition.

I know the previous game had Ganon/Cucco mode and that was fun but it was also pretty janky and seemed more like a fun bonus. They've improved the gameplay of that old mode substantially. It's still kind of borked, but it's also kind of awesome.

I played the original Hyrule Warriors and loved it, which other Warriors games are worth playing?
The attack on titan ones are amazing. They're not really warriors games though. You fight swarms of enemies on big maps, but not thousands, and you don't just swipe through them with one hit. Instead you fight hundreds of giants - if they are little you can take them in one slice, but most are too big so you have to cut them down to size by lopping off their arms and legs first. Oh and also instead of running everywhere you zip about like spiderman.

Been playing a lot of games while waiting for COVID to kill me so I haven't finished Age of Calamity yet. But what I have played (up to chapter 4) has been a lot of fun. Thoroughly enjoying it. If I had any complaints it would be that some of the story missions are too long. 20 minutes is about the sweet spot for a story mission but some of them drag on an extra five or ten minutes and it's somewhat draining.

Also one of the playable characters is completely fucking useless. I don't care how good he is. He's a wasted character slot. I'm talking about Hestu the useless waste of space. We could have gotten anyone else.

A DLC pass was announced at the Direct today.

Seems decent. I see a lot of people speculating the new characters are the ones in the gallery that aren't playable (Astor, Sooga, Robbie, Purah, and Harbinger Ganon).
I hope new weapon types refers to new movesets like when HW added the Dominion Rod and Epona.

Just now saw that we have to wait 8 to 9 months for an expanded roster. Looking forward to see who’s going to be included next, along with Link‘s new weapons.

My game randomly started updating tonight. Apparently it was pre-loading the next batch of DLC stuff. I completely forgot I even had this game... guess it's a good enough time as any to get back to it and finish off the story mode. I think the last time I played I was last winter? At least Dynasty Warriors isn't the sort of skill that degrades over time.

Wonder who they're going to add.

Agreed.
They've been very hush-hush on some specific details. Robbie and Purah look interesting, at least.

Extra characters I can live without. I'm really more interested in story content. Because for a game that's supposed to be a prequel/alternate timeline, we don't really get a lot of character development and interaction between the Champions which is what I was hoping for. Mostly it's just Zelda whining until she stops whining.

I have been playing this a bunch the last couple days. Maybe I played too much of the original and burnt out, but I am having fun. I took some time and sat down and finished off a bunch of the character upgrades and the world map is now much more managable. It's a fun game. Still haven't found the new DLC weapons yet. But I have progressed the story and did a bunch of side missions and hace been pleasently surprised by the characters that have unlocked.

The added EX missions and content are also neat and I am enjoying them. The alt-history approach to the story is good. No problems with it and I don't really get why some people are complaining about that aspect.

Well nobody else posted and I have updates. I got the new weapon, the flail. It is actually really good and I am enjoying it. So far I've unlocked two variants and will probably get the third tomorrow.

The developers definitely put more time and effort into this weapon as compared to main-series Dynasty Warriors games; though that is unsurprising considering the whole Hyrule Warriors experience is a cut above its bretheren. I've also been exploring some of the other characters. Mipha is absurdly powerful once you figure out how she works and her EX upgrade is silly, allowing her to escape damage even more easily. I am still using Impa as my main because she's OP as fuck. But I want to get better with fighters I use less often; specifically I want to improve with Daruk and Revali. Revali in particular is a pain to use. I can tell he's pretty good, but he moves so fast and ends up getting hung up on map objects so it is a frustrating experience.

If you have any tips, I'd welcome them. Overall it is a really fun game. I think I still like the first Hyrule Warriors the most, even though Age of Calamity is more or less a better game in every respect.

There's always at least one character in a Warriors game that doesn't click for most people. I can't handle Revali for a damn, but my brother and my niece would always leave Draruk to me because haha mountain man go brrrrrrrr.
I never did sit down and beat this game. I probably ought to at some point.

One surprising thing about the DLC is it seems to be intended for people who have already beaten the main story. I still had a ways to go, so at first I only had access to the flail.
Tip for Guardian parts: beating the first part of Chapter 5 opens up more opportunities to get them. Enough where getting the bike should be possible.

Well deserved, in my opinion. Just the fact that they’re also working on the sequel to Legend Of Zelda: Breath of The Wild really shows how dedicated Koei Tecmo can be,

I honestly can’t wait to play both this and the Wii U version.

Be sure and get the WiiU version that comes with the 3DS version’s characters as well

By the way, this user has a pretty solid series of videos discussing both games' characters in depth.
He also did Fire Emblem Warriors, if that interests you.

Remember, for the Wii U version, you'll have to pay for the DLC cast. At last check, it amounts to $43 and a Link Amiibo.

Yeah if you're going to try Hyrule Warriors, it's best to take Definitive Edition since that comes with everything they added on Legends and the Wii U version at no extra cost. Have an amiibo from the zelda series ready because amiibo rewards are very helpful (except for Zelda's baton weapons, fuck those) and be ready for grind intensive gameplay.

ETA: I just recalled this. You'll spent most of your time in Adventure Mode which features overworld maps in the style of 8 bit Zelda games and modeled after the hub area of each era. Make sure you have lightning fast reflexes for the 1HP challenges and set the Fairy Bow to your weapons when attempting those maps, get used to pressing B to dodge constantly.

And for the Rupee collecting mission, those can be busted easily if you bring a Rupee+ weapon and use the rupee drop increasing items of each map. Take advantage of those to earn enough money to catch up with your underleveled allies.

Boss fights are cancer, you'll learn to hate any level that pits you against Ghoma or Manhandla purely because their patterns are pretty defensive with wide AOE attacks and time consuming battles.

Edit 2: Fuck the Agitha locked maps.
