I helped out with the "recovery" in Plaqumines Parish immediately after Katrina. Everything south of Empire/Buras was under water for weeks. Everything between there and Port Sulfer/Pointe a la Hatche was absolutely fucked. I talked to a few coon-asses that said it was the third time they'd been wiped out, but they would just rebuild. They didn't seem too put out. Those people don't deserve any outside help at this point.
