Any engineerfags know if that's common practice to leave a huge crane erected like that? It's not like this storm showed up out of nowhere. That's insane. Has to be a colossal liability.
It takes longer to take it down. If you take it down, and the storm misses you, you are out a few weeks of construction time.

It's not a glitch, It's an improvement. I have this to help me sleep tonight: 20241008_203623.jpg

Radar signature that is usually a dead giveaway for a tornado,
Thank you. Every day’s an education!

Surely they’d have known there’d be a high wind for the last 3-4 days? How long do they take to disassemble? The thought of those massive concrete counterweights above residential buildings is terrifying

This news livestream earlier had mentioned, some absolute mad lad, Lt. Dan, is hunkering down in his fucking boat, docked in the bay of Tampa. Godspeed, Lt. Dan!!! Oh he also had one leg, lmao. The anchors stated the mayor said he was evacuated, but somebody stated they saw him in his boat still.

No. It's not. But it takes a couple days to take one down safely. It SHOULD have been taken down, but considering the general state of Florida, and the fact that there's probably a half dozen other cranes in service around the area, a good contractor would prioritize getting the cranes down with the highest risk in the time available.

Best practices is to fuck off out of the way and roll damages into the billions of other dollars in insurance claims. They can withstand a lot of wind. They're designed to. But Hurricane force winds? Naw. That shit's coming down in the next 12 hours.

"please don't drive through floods"

ffs why do people need to be told this.
My second apartment in Pensacola had flooding in the streets after a hurricane a few years ago, and niggas kept driving their fuckin' cars through it and killing their engines. This happened like five times in the span of two hours.

I actually think most people are too stupid to know how things work anymore.

Slightly off-topic, but Ryan Hall's mispronounciation of Econlockhatchee lifted my spirits a little. "Ee-cone-uh-lock-uh-hat-chee." Not a bad attempt for being under pressure.

The latest NHC update has Milton's centre at 26.9N, 83.5W, still on a bearing of 35 degrees.

If this heading is maintained, landfall would be about 5 hours from now at Madeira Beach. He should still bend east before then, but he's cutting it close.

Holy fuck:
