I'm in Dallas where we'll mostly just get a bit of rain and that's all so far. My folks are in Houston though so I've been nervously keeping an eye out just in case. Heard Galveston is getting fucked up right now. Hope everyone down there is hanging in there.

Harvey is now Category IV, strongest hurricane to hit Texas in 47 years.

Maybe if we're lucky the Hurricane will clean up that pile of rotting seaweed and dirty mud they call "Galveston Beach"

Michigan Kiwi here, this storm looks pretty nasty. My thoughts go out to any Texas Kiwis having to endure this. Stock up and stay safe. I'll pray for you all.

The city manager of Rockport said that if anyone was still there to ride out the storm, they need to put their social on their arms. Jesus fucking Christ, that's some dark shit.
Yeah, I remember officials said the same thing before Katrina. While it's practical in case they fucking die, the idea is to scare the fuck out of anyone wanting to ride out the storm and get them to evacuate.

As someone who lives in Louisiana, I've seen worse. The only thing I don't want is to have another flood like last year.

Unless you've lived through Camille, not you haven't. This is stronger than Katrina was at landfall.

This weather reporter is pretty accurate!

Holy shit, he sounds like Kermit the Frog.

I first saw this guy 7 or 8 years ago doing this exact same thing, i had no idea he was still around.

Here's a livestream. At this moment, it's pounding really hard at Galveston.

Edit:
I also can't find one on Corpus Christi considering it's one of the worst hit.

I'm in Galveston right now and its nothing, the lights are still on and one of us went to go run an errand on their bike a couple hours ago. At times it doesn't even feel different than a typical summer thunder storm as far as wind and rain is concerned.

The only real concern is the storm surge which should only be a problem if the hurricane drifts back into the gulf and continues east along the coast, that's going to be a possibility for a while still. But people here are just cautiously waiting and its still only the west end of the island that's under a voluntary evacuation order, which isn't surprising considering that part of the island consists of a strip of land so slim that you can see the gulf and the bay from pretty much anywhere on it.

A friend of mine just sold his beach house in Jamaica Beach a few weeks ago. I bet he's glad.

If the storm surge is as low as expected the only "damage" inflicted will be a bunch of sand and salt grass that needs to be swept from under the house or hosed off of whatever's stored on the ground level. Even if it reaches 3 or 4 times whats expected and the ground level of the house is completely washed away its no major concern because all that is designed to break away leaving the stilted house intact.

Maybe if we're lucky the Hurricane will clean up that pile of rotting seaweed and dirty mud they call "Galveston Beach"

The beach would still be a shit hole, just a narrower shit hole until the city brings in more trucks full of mud to build it back up again.
