Speaking of found footage, The Hoard was shit, too. Avoid at all cost. Watching The Afflicted so far is pretty good will let you know if it's worth watching at some point
Fuck, yes, it is, just as I said, that, one of the greatest shots I've seen in a found footage movie.
I'm not saying it's excellent but if you're into found footage so far it's definitely a 3.5, effects are top notch and I'm actually interested of seeing where it's gonna end.

I agree. I absolutely LOVE Evil Dead, but I had no idea there were comics and fucking toys??
When it starts getting autistic (Aliens is that way), the franchise is ruined. I just pretend none of the autistic stuff exists BTW.

I saw Honeydew on Youtube the other day. It's not for everybody, but I enjoyed it. However, it has Lena sister fister Dunham in it playing the absolutely most appropriate role of her life. The very last scene sums up the entire Lena Dunham experience I think the entire sane public audience is subjected to on a constant basis.

This is what I mean when I say I hate the term "fandom."
I don't care if you love something like a cult movie or a book series. But your love of something like that should not define you. That's weird and smacks of some kind of arrested development. It's one thing to be the guy who loves movies and loves storytelling. It's another thing to be the guy who has seen Star Wars 50 times, who decorates his house with plastic shit, and who thinks of his existence primarily as a "fan of Star Wars." That's weird, and it diminishes the scope of your own life.
And if you're involved in spergy, inter-"fandom" rifts and arguments, you should reevaluate your life.

The first five minutes are up there with the best of the F13 series. Too bad the rest isn't a fucking F13 movies. On it's own I probably could have come to appreciate it, but as part of the F13 franchise, fuck that shit.

It's been a while since I last saw it, I thought the "groundedness" of the movie was really creepy but it might not hold up as well if I decide to rewatch it.

Totally correct, any kind of horror convention, book signing, whatever, attracts the grossest, most fedora-tipping autistic freakshow you can imagine. It's definitely like that whenever I go to one. Can you believe the Freddy vs Jason vs Ash comic is going for $150 on Amazon? How am I supposed to find out what happened next?
I was pretty much on board with it for about half an hour. Probably not the only one who mentally checked out at around the same time, when it fully sinks in that the clown is the actual protagonist and you foresee the ending.
It had one of those "troubled development histories". If they'd finished the movie they'd started, it might have been ok, if they'd scrapped it all and started over, it might have been ok. They were trying hard to win the fans over with the opening scene but it does kind of make me think. Was the woman taking a bath an essential part of the trap? Does Jason prefer to attack nude women? Do you even need bait to find a zombie who hikes around a lake 24/7 and charges straight at anybody he sees? I figure he'd have killed those guys while they were setting up the floodlights...

I don't get the hate for Terrifier. I mean, why do we love F13 movies if not for Jason? Art the Clown has the same kind of presence. Not unless you're a bunch of sissies who are scared of clowns, of course.

Clown from Terrifier just came across as trying way too hard to be scary/creepy and he just annoyed me with how he acted. To me, he is the Carrot Top of slasher villains

Anyway to stay on topic, anyone wanna give an opinion on the scream series since a 5th movie is due out soon?
The only horror con I ever attended was at a different time (George Romero was still alive that's how long ago it was.) So idk about any cons today but the attendees weren't that autistic. Sure there were a few metalheads and goth/emo kids but nobody in a Fedora or with a neckbeard. Frankly their are wayyyy worse cons with way worse people attending them just go over to the tranch/Kevin gibes thread for proof.
Anyway to stay on topic, anyone wanna give an opinion on the scream series since a 5th movie is due out soon?

The first Scream is certainly well made. Best thing about it is the opening scene. Then it peters out. I really wanted to like it back in the day but compared to the other classic slashers from the 70's and 80's it was pretty lackluster and obnoxious in its deconstruction of the genre. I've always maintained that slashers need to be sleazy and they need to be if not gory then make you uncomfortable (I.E. Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Black Christmas and etc).
A better example of a slasher movie that deconstructs the genre is Sleepaway Camp 2 or Stagefright.
I checked out at Scream 2 which was not very good. I've only seen bits and pieces of Scream 3. Scream 4 was at least gory. I give it that much. But otherwise it was pretty bad. I have no interest in Scream 5.

First Scream, was the right type of horror movie at the time, but with all the copycats, do think it has lost some of what made it so good at the time. But it's still a good watch. Scream 2 and 3, didn't feel like rehashes like most horror follow up, but at the same time lacked any bite or freshness of the first in terms of execution. Scream 4 felt more like a soft reboot, much like stuff like Jurassic World and Star Wars 7.
Scream 5, I understand why it's getting made, Halloween 2018 did big business and has waved in a new era of horror follow ups. But really unsure if they can do anything fresh with the IP, unlike other ips, Scream has never been about the kills or the feeling of dread, but a piss-take on slashers movies and not sure what else you can do with that idea. Could do something different with it I guess, but what.

It's a great series. The first Scream actually started a revival of horror and slashers and led to a bunch of middling to bad 90s horror but also some really good ones/underrated. It was a huge boon to the horror genre as a whole, as it was a huge cultural phenomenon and put it back on the map after a few stale years, mainstream wise
Scream 1 is the best one of the bunch. It might feel a bit dated today for someone for late millenials and zoomers, but that's because a lot of the tropes it was mocking or subverting have been done to death and back then. It's also chockfull of references to 70s and 80s horror movies so if you're not aware of them/horror tropes from then a lot of it would go over your head.
Scream 2 was a really solid follow up, it was kind of panned at the time, because it was a more... serious horror movie, I guess? People were expecting Scream 1 and instead they got a continuation of the franchise. That makes it better, imo. Not as good as the first, but solid kills, the story is strong, good atmosphere, etc...
Scream 3 is where the franchise got a bad rap for quite a while. They listened to the people who whined that it wasn't enough and they decided to turn up the humor (and they turned it way up). It's still worth a watch as part of the franchise, some of the kills are nice, it's just a comfy thing to watch as long as you liked the first couple of movies and the characters and your expectations aren't too high.
Scream 4 was a return to form, and also an update for the modern age, it was a really solid entry, gave life to the series, most people place it either right after the first or close to the second in terms of quality, and why most people got excited that the series was alive again, while the reaction to Scream 4 coming out were more like 'Why no please don't, leave it alone' (it was in the midst of a bunch of unnecessary sequels coming out at the time, this one being one of the best if not the best of the bunch)

Of Wes Craven's 90's output, my two favorites were New Nightmare and The People Under the Stairs.
