Deathgasm was fucking awesome and I'm seriously fucking sad they never made Deathgasm 2
That's the sad thing about a lot of hit indie horror films these days (stitches the clown, bubba ho tep, deep rising ect) they might get lucky to obtain cult status but the cast and crew tends to move on to other things... if they're lucky. And if we're lucky we might get a sequel eventually terrifier 2 is due out soon (delayed by covid because of course) Thankskilling 3 aka 2 was made eventually after a kickstarter raised more money than the entire budget of the original,

Even today horror always gets the short end of the stick

Oh this is depressing. I didn't realize it was him. I don't think it was awful but yeah it wasn't good and it was definitely style over substance.

Maybe it's good Deathgasm 2 didn't happen. It had huge early Peter Jackson vibes to it. I wanna see more movies like.

soooo shudder has Hell comes to frogtown...is that really a horror film though? Don't get me wrong it's a cult classic but I struggle to call it "horror"""" in any traditional sense. I always saw that as more a post apocalyptic or action sci-fi film, the same could be said for John Carpenter's They live. It's not just shudder that has this problem btw, Shout Factory released the first 3 robocops under their Scream factory label, the one created specifically for horror films, as well as the collector's edition of escape from new york. I find it hard to count those as horror films.

So I've been on a Nightmare on Elm Street kick and I watched 2 because someone posted an article about how gay it was. I hadn't seen it in years so I decided to see for myself.

It's really fucking gay.

Jesse should change his name to Fagotron 5000. He totally wants to get pounded by Grady. Poor Lisa. Her boyfriend's gay. And after all she does for him too. The coach is gay, Freddy gets really gay and Jesse has one the most over the top "gay acting hysterical" scenes I've ever seen at 3:24.

It's not as bad with the lore breaking as people say. Only because it's just the first sequel so there's still room to mess around.

Patton is gay. But back then it could really ruin your career. So it almost feels like trolling to do this to him.

As a child I did not see the gay in this movie. It completely flew over my head. Mark Patton felt this movie ruined his career. It's just kind of funny that the biggest movie he was in besides this one was "Come Back to the 5 & Dime Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean", which starred gay icon Cher.

In that movie he plays a gay teen who troons out.

Poor guy just couldn't catch a break.

It's exploitation which is adjacent to horror. They Live has more pronounced horror elements. It was funny how Roddy Piper and Carpenter flip flopped on the movie's politics. Piper liked Reagan whereas Carpenter made the film as a response to Reaganomics. Then later, Piper said the film was a documentary during the Obama era and Carpenter said it predicted the Trump era.

They Live is a god damn masterpiece and IMHO Carpenter's best. Even despite his mild TDS.

I never noticed the gay shit back in the day but the movie has become a meme and extremely popular in gay circles nowadays.

I think it's a solid sequel. Freddy was still menacing without cracking jokes. There's some good kills. It completely peters out in the 3rd act when Freddy is defeated by the power of love.

This scene is still great:

Mark Patton got AIDS a few years later. He then cashed in on the film's notoriety by Kickstarting a docu Scream Queen! My Nightmare on Elm Street.

Despite mild tds carpenter to me feels like one of the last center left libertarians. While his political views are generally left leaning they're still grounded in reality and reasonable and he's willing to compromise or at least listen to ideas or opinions that differ from his own and they live definitely reflects that.

Sure you have things like an anuthortian government oppressing poor and homeless people, but at the same time the main characters are working class average Joe's with blue collar jobs, or nada noticing despite being a "union" job the construction site is using a lot illegal immigrants as labor.

As for elm street 2, that pool party massacre is probably the only time in a slasher flick where the killer is hacking people up left and right, the only time it happened that I can recall is the rave attack in Freddy vs Jason almost 20 years later.

Apparently my post on The Oak Room has been deleted in the rollback, I'll reiterate the main points:

Flynn from Breaking Bad plays a non-cerebral palsy cunt and he's very good at it. Happens in a bar near closing time, a drifter starts to swap stories with the bartender as shit gets darker and darker, blood, violence, mayhem. More of a thriller than horror but extremely strong performances and a must watch imo, 4.5/5

Okay, this time take your notes.

Mountain of the Cannibal God. Has animal violence but it's a great jungle romp with sleaze and gore. Has the great character Stacey Keach and the legendary Bond Girl Ursula Andreas doing full frontal.

Cannibal Ferox. Also has animal violence but has legendary gore. Frequently considered to be the 2nd best Italian cannibal movie.

Jungle Holocaust. Ruggero Deodato's first cannibal flick, it also has animal violence, but a lot of people like this one. Also has some great gore.

The Naked Prey. The only one that isn't Eyetalian and it's from 1965. It's about a white guy being hunted down by a pissed off tribe in Africa. No gore but it is fantastic and comes highly recommended.

Cannibal Apocalypse. Cannibalism is treated like a virus that makes people crave human flesh.

Massacre In Dinosaur Valley. A jungle/adventure/horror/action/sleaze romp with some good gore. Fun B movie.

Emanuelle and the Last Cannibals. A softcore porn and horror hybrid. Great gore. Great nudity.

Cut and Run. The conclusion to Deodato's loosely connected cannibal trilogy even though it doesn't have cannibalism it is set in the jungle, has some great gore, Michael Berryman. A nonsensical plot that runs a mile a minute that says something about journalism.
Cannibal Ferox was pretty horrible. The gore in it is more shocking conceptually then in practice. In practice it's so low budget and poorly executed it's more funny then disturbing. Normally I love schlocky nonsense but the rest of the movie wasn't nearly entertaining enough to make it worth sitting through. Also I just find the whole "killing animals to score cheap publicity points" thing to be just really unnecessary and stupid, never mind upsetting. I can watch some gruesome shit and enjoy it, including things with actual death in it (maybe "enjoy" isn't the right word...). But something about killing animals for cheap shock value just rubs me the wrong way.

Scream Queen was surprisingly good. It really was a pretty cruel thing to do to an actor at that time. They basically offered him a potentially career making opportunity then when he was already signed on they decided to put his sexuality on display and make fun of it. Like imagine you get a part in this extremely popular movie series, then the director finds out you're gay and basically decides to make fun of you for the entire movie, but even worse because he's expecting you to make fun of yourself

I love the scene where Chaskin finally admits he made it gay as shit on purpose, because you can tell he knows he fucked up majorly as a person but he can hardly bring himself to admit it

Horror geeks who go to cons and shit are so fucking cringe

I mean Evil Dead is one of my favorite series and shit, I love Bruce Campbell, but calm the fuck down it's still shitty shlock.

Gay men in new movies: smart, competent, normal, like straight men but way better
Gay subtext in old movies: flaming queens, middle aged men hanging out with high school boys, whatever the fuck this is:

terrifier 2 is due out soon (delayed by covid because of course)
Well I finally got memed into watching Terrifier. I guess it's what I expected: Coldsteel the Clown doing gore effect demos. They didn't bother doing the "movie" part of the movie and there's not much of a narrative or a payoff or anything. Watching it to the end should count as a consent form for getting a face tattoo. Still better acting, dialog, etc. than a Rob Zombie movie, not even a hot take just a plain fact. Sure I'll watch Terrifier 2, why not.

I disagree, I would say Terrifier is pretty much on the same level of awfulness as stuff like The Haunted World of El Superbeasto and 31 .

The only problem with Rondo is that the ending doesn't live up to the first 3/4th of the movie, it's like they wrote themselves in a corner and went with a much more typical exploitation ending. Which, I mean, fair enough, it wasn't terrible or anything but brought it down to a solid 4/5 instead of a 4.5/5 imo.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think it's a terrible movie by any stretch of the imagination, my problem is that it doesn't feel like a Friday the 13th movie. It suffers from that grimdark attitude that almost all the remakes and reboots were suffering from at the time. Switch the mask, don't mention crystal lake, and people would have called it a Friday the 13th rip off. And that's the problem, it feels more like a rip off than an actual entry in the series, as enjoyable as it is.

I'd still watch it over Jason Goes to Hell, the weakest fucking link in that series.

Yeah that's basically my position.

It's not a stronk woman story, it's a straight up strong woman story. That's how you write a woman character who fights back in a realistic way. She's vulnerable but she has the upper hand because of her inner strength, her past, and she knows not to fuck with people who are bigger than her, she's not 5'2" in heels bashing in a 6'2" 300 pounds russian. She's in actual fucking danger.

Honestly I found that You're Next was by far one of the best horror movies in the last 10 years, really refreshing and also that fucking opening track is fantastic.

I knew Patton was gay. But i didn't know the director made the movie that way to simply make fun of the main actor for being gay. That's harsh.

I didn't realized Carpenter had TDS. I guess I shouldn't be too surprised. He seems to be similar to Romeo who was also a liberal but was also more reasonable than other left leaning people in Hollywood. As in their assess aren't fully in their heads.

The two best “found footage” horror films I’ve ever seen are
2. Grave Encounters (2011)

1. The Poughkeepsie Tapes (2007)
Poughkeepsie Tapes being easily one of the most disturbing and legitimately scary movies I’ve ever seen.
The Poughkeepsie Tapes was great, Probably one of the only horror movies I've seen to leave a lasting impression on me afterwards. Really sinister stuff.

Have you guys seen Hell House LLC? Wasn't a fan of the ending but it had some pretty cool scares.
