The other reason on failed adaptions is that nearly all of King's books have the characters inner monologuing. The rate and amount King does it is almost impossible to put it on big screens.

without the delicate prose of
"cancer... rhymes with 'dancer' and 'you just shit your pants, sir'. "the evil gyppo story just doesn't work

although to be fair the idea I remember that line despite reading Thinner over thirty years ago doesn't argue against his internal stuff

It would have potential if they could handle the topic with nuance but they won't. However I like Justin Long so I will catch it on streaming.

This reeks of something greenlit in 2021, in the depths of the failed cultural revolution fever dream. The youtubers dunking on it will be worth watching.

Speaking of The Dark Tower, I literally got to the part in the last book where the Man in Black is eaten by Mordred... and I just gave up. I should probably finish it, but that was such a stupid way to get rid of a major antagonist.

You can tell the books were written over a course of many years because they don't feel like they're all written by the same author. And I mean that in a negative way. Wide swings in quality over the course of the series.

How dare you gloss over Crampton's acting, which is typically just as quality as her tits. (Thanks for the recommendation, I'll check it out.)
Just read the last 10 pages of the last book. You won't be quite as mad to realize that the entire series could have been condensed to three or four books with this ending. I guess the impact wouldn't have been quite as large if the series was shorter. I liked it, but my god books 5 through 7 were garbage.
AvP was PG-13. If the blood and guts shown are from non-existent creatures (like xenomorphs or yautja) the MPAA doesn't count it as actual blood and gore. I'm sure this one was PG-13 as well since there's plenty of violence but it's "creature violence" and the "people" being ripped apart are synths with white goo, not humans.

My grandma wanted to see it so yes I went willingly although I was reminded yet again how much the movie theater experience has gone downhill since I was a kid.
I agree with everything. They managed to pussify the predator and make him believe in the power of love and teamwork.
I had no idea the android was Dakota Fanning until you said it. Which is funny because I just saw her in "Vicious" (trash) and wouldn't have known if I didn't see the credits.

I don't know if I've ranted about it yet, but Borderline has really grown on me. I think that Ray Nicholson's performance might be the best horror performance this year, or maybe in years.

I get why it's... a controversial choice. Samara Weaving is my 2nd horror waifu, so I am biased. It's definitely a movie that people hated or loved... but Ray Nicholson alone just makes it worth it.

It's a weird, fucked up indie movie, but it's great.

I mean again I can't stress enough how fucking good Ray Nicholson's performance is that I literally just watched the credits as a result, and that was some of the best acting in the entire thing, and that's not a dig. It makes complete sense when you see it in context.

Don't spoil yourself, see the movie, but it's still mindblowing that someone manages to outact and outperform most actors in most movies in a mostly wordless ending sequence during the credits. Again. Don't spoil yourself, but if you're not gonna see it, just watch that shit

Seriously, watch it. Even watching the trailer. But just in case:

That scene was also a standout

While I sorely wish they had kept a darker, more mature tone, I didn't mind that Mr. Predator had to find a new framework of beliefs and morals. He's a malformed runt who quite literally cannot survive by the Yautja's "might equals right" culture. It's a mindset incompatible with his existence. It could have been a lot better but it also could have been a lot worse.

Finally saw the new frankenstein and though it was pretty uneven. It feels like they weren't very confident on Victor being a monster so they Felt the need to make Elizabeth's entire character just calling Victor a fuck. I'm no stickler for book accuracy but the changes to her felt so pointless and only took away. Victor shooting her felt like such a cop out. They clearly didnt want to make the monster to villianous by killing her to get at Victor. Its clearly not intentional and while you could say he shot at the monster because of his disgust toward him, no it was because he was beating the shit out of him. why yes I did just put spoilers blockers on a 200 hundred year old story.
Also not be to mean on this forum known for it respectful and kind decorum, but What the fuck is wrong with that bitches face?!? She looks worse then the monster.
The lighting while decent, especially for the snowy parts, left a bit to be desired. Is it to much to ask for some dark shadows in my Gothic horror? Overcast isn't the same as moody especially when everything looks so flat.
I still say its pretty good overall it just those things really took me out of it. I did liked Victor basically being an frustrated abusive dad and really enjoyed the "assembly" process.

I don't believe that something brought up in a culture as cruel as a predator would let go of their honor and way of life in the course of a day. I know predators aren't human but there's a lot of stubbornness that comes along with pride. I can see him joining a pact for utility but not because of emotions.
His size wasn't even an issue in the end. He abandoned his original goal and was able to kill the head predator because his heart grew 3 sizes that day.
This is what happens when woke crap infects comics as well. They disregard what makes a character good and stuff it full of lame shit. You can still have this teamwork makes the dream work story with the predator as an assisting character and not compromise the material.

It sure is something that I can look back at Attack the Block and see that as a heavily nuanced movie compared to today’s schlock. I’m sure the initial point of conflict between the white officer and his homie crew will be him having run one in once for dealing or petty vandalism and them ultimately scolding him for being an ignorant white man who doesn’t understand how those are somehow victimless crimes of oppression.

Is black people versus white vampires the new thing?*
*Sinners was done filming in July 2024 while Night Patrol finished theirs in October 2024. So it looks to be a coincidence that these two movies have a similar central conflict.

Sounds like the twin movie thing. Like Dante's Peak/Volcano, Armageddon/Deep Impact. Or it could just be a case of two similar movies coming out the same year and one doing well and the other not so well like Top Gun/Iron Eagle.
