Watch House 2 1987, it has nothing to do with the first movie but it's also good in a campy way. It's more of a comedy movie. Can't recommend any House movies after those.

I haven't seen it, but the TV series they made from it is supposed to be pretty good. Odd turn they took, setting it in a hospital instead of the titular "House," but the whole franchise is kind of bizarre anyway, so it probably works. Not sure how they got Hugh Laurie to star in it, but I'm guessing it's blackmail.

It's funny because I tried House II right after the first.
Did not care for it. I think I'll give it another try in the future but it was trying to do that thing a lot of horror films from the late 80s were doing where it's playing up the laughs way too much. Bill Maher of course gets to play an unlikable cunt... figures. It also wastes Lark Park Lincoln, final girl from Friday 7. The first one was a horror movie with nice little bits of comedy. The second felt like Chud 2: Bud the Chud.
It really annoyed me.
I actually liked House 3. The other serial killer comes back from electric shock movie from 1989. Thought of doing a double feature of it with Shocker but I didn't realize Shocker is almost two hours long. Why?
House 3 is one of those movies that isn't too gory and not enough actually... happens but watching Lance Henrickson go off the rails was a treat.

Yeah if I'm honest I'm not too attached to any horror movies made in these past few, uh... decades? Never really bounced back after Scream I'm afraid.
Also disagree here. I love a lot of horror from the 2000s' and even early to mid 10s'. I watched Deathgasm recently and had a blast. (almost) All those remakes people hated on have aged like fine wine. Stay Alive is even fun if you're in good company and downing a couple.
I'm just tired of "elevated horror" it's a fucking catheter check to the soul. I miss when the most highbrow horror films got were stuff like The Wicker Man or The Exorcist, both which knew how to be under 2 hours.
The only modern horror I've really thoroughly enjoyed have been the Samara Weaving stuff. The Babysitter, Mayhem, Ready or Not. I haven't seen Abigail. But they're films that just seem to be having a lot of fun while also having themes n' shit.

So I watched Borderline with my second favorite horror waifu Samara Weaving, and it’s a really fucking solid movie. The real fucking star of the show is Ray Nicholson. Absolutely fucking stellar. A big recommend. 9/10.

Though it’s not horror, I also watched Eenie Meanie with said waifu, and it’s basically a shittier Baby Driver mixed with a shittier True Romance. There’s a really good movie buried in there, and it’s a shame that it just didn’t pan out. It’s still worth a watch, but while I was hyped, it was ultimately pretty disappointing. 6.5/10.

There are few remakes that are as retarded and make as little sense as fucking American Psycho. What the fuck are they thinking?
Why the fuck are they even conceivably doing that? Even Rob Zombie's ridiculous scene-for-scene remake of Halloween made more sense.

What, they found someone better than Christian Bale to do Patrick Bateman? No fucking way.

Even if your first encounter with Patrick Bateman was reading the book, you think of Christian Bale as that dude. What the fuck retard greenlit this retarded shit?

I’m sure this guy is gonna do a better job as Patrick Bateman

Weapons wasn't bad but it was overhyped and too long and not scary. Brolin was the only likeable character. Cregger's previous Barbarian was much more enjoyable imo.

I think remaking American Psycho is silly but since it's apparently full steam ahead, I do hope they crank up the weirdness on par with the novel. I think the odds are good they will try to set it during a different time period and I really hope that isn't the case. Cryptobro Bateman.

Casting isn't confirmed yet. Patrick Schwarzenegger is also in talks.

It's been some time since I saw Halloween or Zombie's remake but iirc Zombie changed a lot. An hour or more spent on Michael's white trash childhood, then isn't he chasing down his little sister instead of some random babysitter? I mean it wasn't good, but at least he put his own spin on it.

They ran with a guy that called himself "Lucifer Valentine" and did a lot of vomit porn with him. In one particular movie he'd coaxed a drug addict into the porn and the sisters were in charge of making her puke and playing in it. Valentine also believed he and his middle-functioning austistic sister were reincarnated Lovers. He ended up with custody of her after the parents died. She was abused by him, it's unknown of the Soskas were involved in that or not.
The sister killed herself after 8-or-so years of being his sex slave.
As for the pedo posting, they apparently traveled in what was called "The Rape Van" due to it being a white panel cargo van that was used to transport band equipment. While on their way to a shoot in the van, one of the sisters sees a set of twin boys and takes a picture, and then posts it with a sexually suggestive statement about the future the twin boys have.

To my knowledge all of this is before Eric July launched the Rippaverse. Lucifer Valentine, the porn, the sister, the drug addict, all of that was back in the early 2000s. 2008 or so. They were college age/fresh out of high school and seemed to want to piss off whoever raised them.

These days they're "Hot Topic Goths". If the term doesn't ring a bell, it's the fashion of Goth but the attitude of someone who is upbeat and happy. GINO (Goth In Name Only) didn't catch on, thankfully.

They were promoting a killer stripper nun book back in September of 2023. It features two half naked nuns in a Tarantino style shoot 'em up involving the nuns cutting the penises off of police officers.

I can't say if they're "reformed" Christians, or if they're half in half out.
All I can say is that I don't have to explain their shit to Saint Peter at the pearly gates...

So it's too long and not scary? How is that not a bad horror movie?

The 80's meme is strong so it's probably going to still be set then. Cryptobro Bateman would be an interesting version but Hollywod can't make it. They will say Bateman is a psycho because he's a white male and not because he's a Yuppie with no sense of self outside of Yuppie pecking order.

I should have stated it better. Ineffective horror movie but not a bad movie. Well shot, well acted, interesting concept.

I wonder if they'll lean more on the "repressed homosexual" thing. I don't agree with the interpretation that Bateman is gay but I know a lot of people do.

You stated it right. The story doesn't work in the way it's presented. The main mystery is resolved with no meaningful reveals. There is a witch appearing from no where and that's just what happened. The main characters don't learn or grow, they exist and then fight a witch.

The central mystery isn't relevant to the story because it's an on/off switch when the movie needs it to be. The reason the kids are found is because a drug addict unrelated to the main cast finds them. And then tells the police. The conflict between the drug addict and the cop doesn't pay off, it's just filling time.

The teacher is a non-entity and her story goes no where either. Nothing happens to any of these characters and then we get a side story about the little boy and the witch to wrap things up.

How is it a well shot and well acted movie with an interesting concept? The visuals are well done but they lead to nothing. The actors are bland modern characters with only the male lead being worth watching. Interesting concept? Yes, but that's not used well.

I mean, you stated it yourself. The visuals are well done. The actors did a good job regardless of the lack of interesting characteristics to the people they were playing. It had an interesting concept although I would agree it kind of peters out instead of carrying that concept to a good conclusion.

The kids are found because the schoolteacher and dad, who previously hated each other, work together to triangulate where the kids were running to. The drug addict finding the house and telling the cop doesn't result in the kids being found because both of them end up under the witch's spell. You think the cop is going to get a moment to redeem himself by being heroic when the drug addict shows him the house, but instead he proves himself to be a thorough bumbling retard, as his earlier actions have indicated. The drug addict and cop being at the house serves as a distraction for the schoolteacher and dad, leaving the little boy to figure out how to evade his parents and defeat the witch on his own.

The reason schoolteacher and dad are willing to work together at all is because they form a bond after the dad puts life and limb on the line to save the schoolteacher from being attacked, revealing a depth of character previously not seen.

The schoolteacher is incredibly annoying but she's willing to put herself and reputation in danger to help her students which is admirable.

Maybe I've just seen too many awful movies over the past couple years but this is not a bad movie.

So much salt about the zoomie teacher when they could not have portrayed her in a less flattering way.
Why does it matter if they flatter her or not? She's repulsive to watch and I don't like watching things that repulse me..

The director is hinting at a sequel to Weapons being made.

I hope it doesn't. Someone get this asshole back in a dress singing Hitler songs with Timmy. Make a movie about a guy dying from strangling himself while masturbating or something!

The director is working on a Joker and Harley Quinn movie...
