It's been 46 years since the first movie came out, and it's still the only truly excellent movie in the franchise. Everything since then has varied from "bungled" to "dumb shit." That trend certainly isn't going to change with Disney now owning the property.
The first was a great gothic novel in space and a masterpiece of sorts. Aliens was a very good amusement park ride action movie. Three was watchable but meh. Everything else has been utter trash. Four in particular was a huge disappointment coming from Jean-Pierre Jeunet, and I don't know what the fuck he was thinking.

I blame Joss Whedon for writing it and Fox for hiring Jeunet when he didn't even speak English at the time.

Even those weren't insurmountable. I got the idea Jeunet had a snotty contempt for the entire franchise and therefore just treated it as a paycheck. It's too bad because almost anything else he's made has been top notch.

Seriously, imagine a throwback to the original Alien combined with Jeunet/Caro's Delicatessen. It would work.

(Incidentally I just asked AI why they broke up and apparently it was literally BECAUSE of Alien Resurrection. So now I have another reason to hate that fucking movie.)

Since we were on the topic of dog horror movies, I have to recommend Man's Best Friend (1993)... Okay the horror is pretty light here as it's more just pure schlock but it's so good, and it has Lance Henrikson in it!

What am I missing about Weapons? I thought it was okay but nowhere near as great as everybody says it is. Me and my husband had the same reaction that modern horror films are falling into consistent trends and are starting to blend into one another. Same style of cinematography, same quips, same scares (slow pan jump scares, old people and crazy smiles). Also ALWAYS a married gay couple will just materalise like mid movie. This felt like I'll forget about it in a few weeks times. We watched Together a week or so ago and I enjoyed it a lot more (some cliches too but it felt more fun and interesting).

Maybe I just need to give Weapons another watch but I'm just really not getting the hype.

Pointing out “gay couples materializing” and the just name dropping Together without saying anything else about that movie is definitely a choice.

The true horror of the Xenomorph only came from one round of CM13, where I misclicked and instead of shooting my pulse rifle, threw it at the oncoming swarm; who then facehugged me and mocked me in dead chat. The horror...the horror.

Also watched Weapons, it was okay. As another farmer said, kind of generic. Josh Brolin was great, but he always is.

Reminds me of the hype for Barbarian. No one will say what the film does well, just that it's "great". Which means it's average at best.

Alien is a good slasher movie in space. It has a great monster, really good practical effects and plays with tension well. The Space trucker style characters put believable people in a tense situation and they stay in character and don't do anything stupid to deserve to die.

No spoilers. Tells people interested what they're getting into. Isn't just a single word review. Has any one posted the same thing for Weapons? No. Which means it has nothing worth talking about. I might check out a cam rip but knowing it has a fag couple and a zoomer 'nerd' main character makes me think it's more woke garbage. Which is a shame considered WKUK was quite good and didn't lean that way. I guess without Trevor they're all homo loving kikes now.

Went down the Lucifer Valentine / Shawn Fedorchuk rabbithole again to see if any progress was made since 2021.

I need to do further work on this.

. No one will say what the film does well,
Unsettling tone and premise; good characters. But it is also 'Muh mentals' the film. That faggot Irish film reviewer that shills low quality trainers for half his video loves it for that. I think that how unsettling I found the 'Pied Piper' imagery carried a lot of the film for me. The villain is Longlegs tier though, so if you didn't like that, it might not be a fun watch for you.

So it's a generic modern horror film with woke elements. But it's made reasonably decently..

Which is what everyone not buying into the hype said it would be. I'll watch a cam rip later and shit on it if I'm right.

Pretty much yeah. I paid about £17 (including drink and snacks) to have a decentish time with some friends watching it. I wouldn't say that was money well spent, but it wasn't also like I'd want an instant refund.

That's interesting. I've been at that venue for a lot of punk and metal shows. He assumed ownership from his brother Sean, who passed away in 2016. They never disclosed the cause of death. Sean also played a significant role in founding Riot Fest here in Chicago. I wonder if Tim also ended up taking over Sean's brewery, All Rise. The ILSOS states that the venue is managed and owned by Tim and his brother Patrick.

My only real problem with the gay couple in Weapons was that it felt like a cliche for the well-mannered Asian character to be gay, because only a gay man could have the same bearing as him, of course. There are no persnickety, effeminate straight men.

A rare mistep in the film, which is overwhelmingly original and enjoyable. Detractors are jaded niggos.
