I think BD has the most news. I'm not bothered by the incessant promotion of their in-house stuff or whoever's paying at the moment. Truly don't give a shit about reviews.

UpcomingHorrorMovies.com is not bad if you want a raw list of titles. Fangoria does a first of the month tweet showing every horror movie added to streaming. Nobody seems to have anything near full coverage of the latest blu-ray debuts and you either need to browse your boutique distributor of choice or scan the Blu-ray.com release schedule like a hawk.

Check the pirate streaming sites I know and set the genre to horror. Occasionally check the cinema listings and then look up anything new I might like on youtube.

Top 5 reasons why Evil dead is a feminist power house movie.

It's so easy to get trailer compilations for the next month you can watch/skip through one of those and know what's coming in a reasonable time frame.

I'm pretty much at a point where I skim their headlines and only check the posts about things that look really interesting. Most of their posts are blatant shilling, and their reviews flat out aren't worth reading. If I watch a trailer for something and I'm still not sure if I should check it out, I'll skim reviews on Letterboxd.

Stuff like that is just lefty horror fans trying to justify their love of horror flicks that have been historically criticized as being misogynist, and it's hilarious. If they feel guilty about liking something they aren't supposed to, they do these mental gymnastics so they can say "here's how this movie actually isn't sexist/racist/homophobic/etc." instead of just accepting that some of the movies they like don't affirm their social/political beliefs.
 
Is there a lore reason for why modern horror fans are giant quivering pussies right now? I can't browse social media without seeing some sanctimonious faggot hand wringing about rape in horror movies and how its exploitative and gives them the "ick".
Anything more complex than the newest blumhouse slop film is "exploitative" for the crime of actually trying to be disturbing.

Horror is part of the Alt sphere. Goths, punks, metal heads, nerds all circle horror and it's mostly a genre for teenagers. Look at the Alt youth of today and look at them. What else would they be but sanctimonious faggots?
 
Saw Weapons, thought it was good.

Was not expecting the villain to be a voodoo witch like that. Didn't like the teacher character, thought she was very unlikable, even with the shit she was going through. The multiple perceptions thing was neat, too. Wish the ending was a bit less silly, but was still cool seeing the aunt get torn limb from limb like that.

Movie experience was kinda soured as a literal retard was just a few seats down, guffawing at the funny scenes. And anytime scary stuff happened he groaned and whined like a toddler, and literally dry heaved when there was gore or blood. I'd ask why he went to a horror film if he clearly couldn't handle it, but I guess then he wouldn't be a retard.
 
If Weapons is the only movie I see in the theater this year, then I was very satisfied with my experience. I give it 8/10 missing children. My matinee had a good crowd so this may do well by word of mouth.
  • The third act did drag on a bit once you learn who is responsible and parts of it could have been cut without affecting the film.
  • I felt the nightmare sequences for the jump scares with Aunt Gladys (the witch) were unnecessary. If they were not in and the first time she's revealed is when James (the druggie) sees her in the woods, that would have been much more impactful.
  • Paul (the cop) should have gotten a redemption arc. He is a recovering alcoholic who is coaxed by Justine (the teacher) to drink and sleep with her, gets in trouble with his girlfriend because of his one night stand, tries to cover up an instance of police brutality, and ends up getting bewitched by the aunt and then killed by Justine.
  • Massive plot armor for the teacher. The gay principal, after being hexed, instantly kills his spouse, yet Paul and Josh Brolin's character, after he gets hexed, struggle with killing Justine.
  • The dark humor was a bit of a mixed bag, especially with the climax. While Aunt Gladys getting chased and killed by the children she abducted was a satisfying payoff, her running for as long as she did given her age stretched my suspension of disbelief.
One of the trailers at my showing was for the Black Phone sequel. I guess they decided not to do a prequel and are really trying to make the Grabber the new Freddy Krueger.

I fucking loved Weapons. In a different director's hands it could've been absolute shlock but it was well done. Give it a 8/10, gonna have to rewatch it but it's rare these days I go into a new movie blind and end up satisfied so I was very happy.
I liked how most of the characters were pieces of shit, but realistic without being comically evil. Saw the witch twist coming but they did it well. And thank god they didn't feel the need to show her backstory.

That was me, if you don’t enjoy public viewing experiences then maybe just wait for it to come to streaming? There’s no need to be rude… I’ll be enjoying Weapons for the next 3 weeks at each showing just to upset you over how I enjoy my kino.

It's probably the only movie we're going to get before 2026 that isn't "Jordan Peele Presents: White Men Are Fucking Scary, Yo" or "This Director Is Trying to Salvage Steven King's Latest Insane Blog Post: the Movie."

It's not perfect and I have a feeling I'll notice holes on a rewatch. But I walked out of the theater satisfied. Probably my favorite horror movie since The Substance. But I get the caution, I saw Presence (2024) recently and hated it despite it being hyped. Barbarian had a similar hype train although I liked it. Without spoiling shit there's a good amount of mystery, when you watch the movie it's pretty funny without killing the premise/tension, and fairly interesting characters.

I do agree it's probably overhyped at the moment just because it's interesting compared to most of the slop in theaters. It's competing with Fantastic Four for example lmao.

Edit: Also seriously fuck Presence, I found the directing interesting but the twist at the end makes it so fucking stupid and not make sense even if they tried to set it up.
