I had an idea for a "woke" Predator sequel. You remember that scene in Predator 2 where it couldn't kill the female officer because she was pregnant? Fan theories speculate that the reason why it didn't kill her is that the baby technically can't defend itself and it would be seen as a 2 for 1 kill.

So, my idea is that you form a squad of pregnant women to hunt the beast down in the jungle. Starring Melissa McCarthy and concluding with the Predator delivering a caesarian and thoroughly skinning Melissa McCarthy alive.
The twist of Predaxir has to be that McCarthy is the only huntress not pregnant - she's just fat.

I had the idea of writing a story around an isolated tribe with little contact with the outside world fighting zombies and then humans (civilians and military) fleeing to their home.

Yay or nay?

Chad-dator: Lol fat

The '80s was so hilarious about gore and nudity.
It's because the gap between PG and R was so big before they came up with PG13. Lots of parents took their kids to Alien because of Star Wars. Meanwhile Scott was going for a Texas Chainsaw Massacre in Space and had watched it for inspiration. You got Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom ripping a beating heart out of a chest, and of course Gremlins which is often a reason stated for PG13 being a thing in the first place.

I miss those times TBH. Now 2 fucks and suddenly you need adult accompaniment.

Also to add to the topic of more gore: Check out DVDs from Canada if you are in the States - we're the same region so it will work in any player (Or a region free one if you're in Europe), but also we have a better rating system than you guys; Your R is our 14A. That's right! We have an extra, more bloody and gory R rating! It's not exactly uncut but it does allow more. For a non-horror example, Deadpool was 14A here.

The OG Ghostbusters movie is rated PG, which is funny because there's quite a bit of sexual innuendo in that movie. The sequel toned down that stuff and managed to get a PG rating, but both of the recent sequels were rated PG-13 for some bizarre reason. They're much more tame than the first two.

It's for marketing reasons. The general public views PG = kids movie.

I was wondering what happened to NC-17, the biggest meme rating of them all... apparently the last one was a 2022 direct-to-Netflix movie, but I guess it's not officially retired

I want to say the success of the Terrifier movies may have made the NC-17 redundant. It's better to just release the movies unrated now but the big question is if Hollywood will jump on board that wagon.

The studios never will, as they basically ARE the MPAA and it is the MPAA's policy regarding advertising unrated films that helps maintain the Hollywood dominance of theatres in the US.

Looks pretty dead already. It was mostly more for "artsy" pornos than violent movies anyway. I wonder what logic motivated accepting an NC-17 for a Netflix movie. "We want the Showgirls audience?" Like "unrated" could be anything, NC-17 is the way to dogwhistle that there are genitals in there somewhere. Though I suppose that's true of Terrifier as well.

Yep. The MPAA are also another way for a studio to impose control over a production they are paying for. Say the director includes a few scenes in a movie that executives disagree with and the director is committed to keeping it in the movie, the MPAA will come in with a NC-17 rating unless the scenes the executives want out are deleted. It doesn't matter if it doesn't make sense since most of the MPAA ratings don't make sense, and this way of imposing control over what makes the final cut of a film is why the MPAA exists in the first place. This is usually a problem since most directors don't want their movies released as NC-17 or in other cases an R rating depending on the movie since it can cut into the amount of people who will see it. The kind of filmmakers who wouldn't give a shit about the rating the MPAA gave them are very rare.

I still don't really understand why more directors don't drop out of the MPAA thing entirely. The kind of directors that take their work seriously, I mean. Obviously I understand why Disney Marvel movies are rated. Whatever minor restrictions on advertising there are seem irrelevant in an era where print ads have gone the way of, well, print. And it's not like Day of the Dead or Evil Dead II were infamous bombs, so this has clearly not been a real problem for quite some time.

ABOUT THE SHOW

BRACE YOURSELF FOR THE SCARE OF A LIFETIME, AS THE WORLD OF INSIDIOUS JUMPS OFF THE SCREEN AND INTO YOUR THEATER SEAT WITH INSIDIOUS: THE FURTHER YOU FEAR – AN IMMERSIVE LIVE HORROR EXPERIENCE BASED ON THE BOX OFFICE HIT HORROR FILM FRANCHISE FROM BLUMHOUSE, DIRECTOR JAMES WAN AND WRITER LEIGH WHANNELL.

Insidious: The Further You Fear is an all-new, thrilling story set in the Insidious universe. Hosted as a live show by the “real” Specs and Tucker, the actual paranormal investigators who inspired the original movie, the event soon takes a turn for the terrifying. When a paranormal demonstration goes horribly wrong, dark forces are unleashed, and the horror becomes all too real.

Trapped in a genuinely haunted theatre, with something truly sinister lurking back-stage, the audience will find themselves under attack from such iconic characters as the Bride in Black, the Wheezing Man and, of course, the infamous Red Face Demon. But what is real? What’s just part of the show? And who—or what—might be sitting next to you?

The house is full. The stage is set. The Red Door is about to open. Will you make it through?
I think I watched Conjuring but not Insidious. Are they different?

It reminds me that there used to be a Friday the 13th live show. I forget at what theme park but I read vivid descriptions of it. It basically was a kill reel of all the movies up until part 8 with two actors in Camp Crystal Lake counselor outfits interrupting the kills and doing a comedy schtick wondering where Jason is.

I heard it sucked dead dog farts.

I rewatched Train to Busan and it still holds up as a pretty great zombie movie. Saw the sequel, Peninsula for the first time and it was alright, not as good as the original but had a few fun action sequences that were entertaining. Helps it is better than Seoul Station (animated prequel made by the same people) which was pretty ass.

Insideous is like the exorsist meets poltergeist, this time it’s a boy, still it’s actually pretty good it’s feels the same as conjuring but better at least the first 2.
Poltergeist is moreso extremely disgusting as opposed to scary, to me, the effects are just R-Rated Ghostbusters, but if the boys in grey weren't called in time.
some of the best movies ever, similar effects as well where the ghosts were real puppets shown in bright lights than superimposed on the film giving them an otherworldly look. I wish that was still used, opposed to keeping things in dark shadows.
