I can't believe I have to be the guy to point this out, but Carradine wore a mustache as Dracula too.

He wasn't outed as a pedo until 1977, which is after The Tenant. So, my conscious is clear.

The Tenant is a goddamn masterpiece of psychological horror.
The Tenant is a great film, but I made the unfortunate mistake of watching it for the first time barely a month after I saw Delicatessen for the first time. Going into it I had no idea how much the former inspired the latter, and I think my enjoyment of it was slightly muted as a result. I highly recommend both, but maybe space them out a bit.

Perfume of the Lady in Black is another one that owes a lot to the Tenant but it's more of a Giallo take. Great film.

Watched In Search of Darkness 1990 to 1994, and did not expect such horrors.

I never got through that whole thing. TBH, they got up to Nightmares in a Damaged Brain and kind of praised it but then it interviewed Joe Bob Briggs who shits on it for no reason.

But holy fuck that is cringe. The 2nd guy saying that the 90's is one of the best decades for the genre is really baffling. It's kind of universally agreed that the 90's sucked for the genre while the 00's had some bright spots depending on your love of the Saw franchise and Paranormal Activity and Jap ghost girl remakes. The 2010's and onward is when the genre was starting to get really good overall.

90s was so weak for horror they end up talking about movies like Natural Born Killers and Freaked in this one. Also lot of Charles Band trash, 15 minutes alone must have been spent on the dull Subspecies movies.

The fruit of 90's horror lies mostly in foreign films.

NB4 @The Cunting Death Can talk about Braindead again. But I can mostly think of foreign films like Audition, Cemetery Man, Baby Blood, Organ, Cronos, Day of the Beast, Naked Blood, and Man Bites Dog. Then you have indies and straight to video like Return of the Living Dead 3, Begotten, The Manson Family (released in 2003 but was semi-finished by 97 or 98 and the production took over a decade so I'm going to count this one.

The number of mainstream Hollywood productions from the 90's that isn't Scream or the nu-wave of wink wink nod nod self-aware slashers could be about two dozen or so flicks like: Jacob's Ladder, Nightbreed, Lord of Illusions, Exorcist 3, Francis Ford Coppola's Dracula, Candyman 1 and 2, Body Snatchers (I liked this remake), Tales from the Hood, the Frighteners, Blair Witch Project, From Dusk till Dawn, Blade, Wishmaster, and that's mostly it.

so the wife is interested in some manner of Lament Configuration bookends, and I'm like "oh just get that plastic kit of it and fill it with stuff to weigh it down" thinking of that cheap plastic kit that looked great assembled but was cheap as fuck and they had it by the dozen at every nerd hole for like, six or ten bucks back in the 90s
not only do they not make it anybody apparently, but it doesn't even seem to be on ebay as an old one still in the pack

feels old, man

Willing to bet you could find a set of 3d printer plans online somewhere. Don't know if you're into 3d printing or have friends that are, but that might be a way to get a set.

Anyone else here watch The Substance yet? Sorry if late but I've been watching movies over my break. I thought it was pretty good. I'm not sure if I think it's Oscar worthy but Demi did do a good job. The body horror and the ending alone are worth it. It tends to be a lot less dialogue heavy then Nosferatu but I'm leaning a bit more towards Nosferatu being the better simply by virtue of the atmosphere and world building being much, much better than The Substance. Honestly these are two different types of horror movies so the comparisons might be a bit apples to oranges. Still though I think they're both worth watching.

I don't, I might know somebody if I ask around.
I have a suspicion this is going to turn into a principle of the matter thing and I end up amazingly butthurt just because it isn't the way it was BACK IN MY DAY, like how I can't enjoy KFC because it's not KFC buffet

the wife caught it, she was kinda ehh on it
I saw the part where she pulled the nodule thing out of her stomach, reminded me of one time I found a weird similarly textured and colored (but much smaller, like a BB) thing in my leg, so I gooped it full of neosporin and was paranoid af about the saucer men for a minute, then a few weeks later I dug a similar one out and realized it was dried neosporin from some time I was a kid

I watched Last Straw (2024), and holy shit, what a fucking waste of film. I'm extremely surprised I made it through without bailing. It has a short running time and actually does have some decent pacing (granted, its paces are from retarded place to retarded place), and that's the only reason.

This isn't really a horror, I guess it's somewhat of a thriller. It's the same story as The Strangers, but in a diner instead of a house. Oh and it's completely defanged. I mean utterly lacking in menace or edge or anything remotely interesting.

If you got a focus group of Farms users, and asked them to write a scene that makes the protagonist chick absolutely hateable, that'd be the first 10 minutes of this movie. Except I don't think that's what they were going for. The rest of the movie doesn't make you like her any more either. The only thing she has going for her is that the antagonists are stupider and gayer than she is. Well the antagonists after the "twist," which isn't foreshadowed as much as it is telegraphed.

It also has what I think is the actual stupidest final girl "trick" I've ever seen in a movie. Where like she does something clever to fake out the attackers and turn the tables. I'm going to tell you and not spoiler it because 1, never watch this, and 2, you won't believe me. She straps some pork ribs (uncooked) from the garbage can around her waist, under her shirt, so that when she gets stabbed, the bad guy will think he's stabbed her, but has really just stabbed the ribs. I told you.

The bad guys are non-menacing faggots. One is a literal simp for her, which, I admit, IS kind of funny. The main one is dollar store Kyle Gallaher (who is already about as scary as oatmeal), but gayer and more zoomer. Then there's a third one who is just there, but doesn't have any lines. And the best one is the one with Downs syndrome. I was hoping he got more camera time and a better role, but they wasted him.

Anyway, utter shit. No tits. 1 star out of five, solely because it's short, and I liked the Downs guy. Don't waste your time.

To butt into your comment, people insist that Leatherface is the worst Texas Chainsaw film. I disagree. Haven't seen it, but if and when I do, I'll probably still disagree. Or, if my opinion changes at all, I'll still dislike the one I'm on about:

I posted this here as an excuse to relevantly mini-sperg about how much I dislike The Next Generation. Some posh twat, Matthew McConaughey, and Cross Dressing-Leatherface-Who-Looks-Somewhat-Like-Robert-Smith.
As bad as The Next Generation is I have some respect for that movie because Matthew McConaughey goes full on batshit unhinged. You can tell he was having so much fun filming those scenes and I don't think I've ever seen him match that performance in any other movie.

Double post apologies, but they have what seems like a pretty good kit on Amazon (Suizu Hellraiser Puzzle Box) for loke 20 bux. It's only 3x3x3 so it might be too small, but everyone seems to talk about the solidness and quality of the engraving (not stickers).

Not sure if you're just hoping only to find the one you had in mind, but seems there's some pretty fair options out there if you're willing to forgo the 1990s kit. Etsy has everything from handcarved wood to 3-d printed too in multiple sizes (though all more $$$ of course).

If I may make some suggestions. I remember that cheap little plastic one from the 90s I had it. It lasted maybe a couple of years. Spoil your little lady a bit.

thanks, yeah, I'll look into what's out there, the main trick is it has to be able to be filled with weight so they can work as bookends

I forgot Demon Knight. Bordello of Blood is okay. It depends largely on your tolerance of Dennis Miller.

Second season was still good, but I liked the tone of the first better.

I just watched Nu-sferatu and it was pretty nice:

What's up with that mustache
It was a bit hard for me to take Count Orlok seriously because I saw Sonic 3 the week before and my mind kept going to Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik.

Aside from that, Nu-sferatu was a fantastic movie. I liked the homages to the 1922 original and what this version added to such as the backstory of Ellen. Also if it's a horror movie starring Bill Skarsgård as the antagonist, he will likely be killing some kids. Some of things I was disappointed in were Count Orlok not having the sharp incisors like a rat or the memorable scene in the original of him rising out of his coffin while on the ship.

I could be wrong but I don't think either of the Nosferatu remakes recreate any shots from the original, although there are a lot of loose homages. They don't do any of the most famous ones, anyway. Both Eggers and Herzog are fanboys who would probably see it as blasphemy. For the best imo.

I knew I was in for a good time when I saw how they nailed the casting for Ellen's cat. Even named her "Greta", after Greta Schröder who played Ellen in the original.
