Horror in the High Desert 3 is absolute ass and this is coming from someone who genuinely liked the first two.

The ending is so fucking lame I feel obligated to put it in a spoiler in case you are tempted to waste your time:

The protagonist gets jump-scared by a shitty dead shrub, then goes home to Mexico. I am not kidding, this is the monster at the end of the movie:

I honestly feel trolled.

That's it? That's what all this was building up to? Was there any hints of fourth installment?

That's lamer than the ending of lighthouse. Reminds me of the Happening lol

Your movie monster should not look like a random shitty picture your little cousin took when they stole your phone.

That's so stupid I have to believe you're fucking with us or purposefully leaving some other detail out. How does that even work?

I was actually still so dumbfounded by the ending that I watched it again at .25 speed and it's inescapably stupid:

There's actually two blink-an-you-miss-it shots of the shrub stalking him before the final Shrub Scare:

Even Reddit can't defend how dumb it is:

They sequel-bait with one of the Nevada yokels saying she found even more footage, presumably the next movie will be about someone being jumpscared by a spooky potted plant.

Well, I was anticipating the new "High Desert" film, I was avoiding spoilers but in this case better to be forewarned and thus forearmed. And I was a big fan of the first two films, I recommended the heck out of them to everybody I know who watches horror films but may not have heard of them. Was I expecting too much that the third installment would at least be decent. It had been a long, long time since a movie had made me want to watch it but not see what was coming next, like that part in the second film where we have the point of view video shot by somebody in the unfortunate geology student's trailer accommodations:

I wanna see my friend...

there he is

I watched an incredible film yesterday, an Aussie movie called You'll Never Find Me I'm not sure whether to call it horror or suspense, and I don't want to give too much away because it's worth seeing completely blind, but it's essentially a chamber piece about a young girl who knocks on an old man's door in the middle of the night asking for help, and neither of them are who they seem to be. If you like movies that make you feel uncomfortable with no easy outs, check it out for sure.

I saw the first Horror in the High Desert a couple nights ago, not really sure why it's so praised. Solid for a found footage mockumentary I suppose, but also very predictable, cliché etc. Even ends with a freeze-frame lol. Best thing I can say about it is it does a good job selling itself as a real documentary.

Specifically, it looks a lot like a low-budget true-crime documentary you might find on a streaming service...or Tubi.

Yeah, just very okay. Took forever to really get going, big pacing issues, which makes it feel too long. I've seen true crime documentaries that were more thrilling. Ending was fine, even a bit scary imo but like you said, anyone who's seen any of these movies before knows what's going to happen.

I watched Singapore Sling a few days ago. Wow. That film's truly depraved. Has anyone else seen it?

The music, the costume and set designs, were exquisite, but all of it's consumed in a sado-sexual nightmare that actively messes with your head. I was so confused for the entire duration, and when it ended, I was no less confused. However, it left me asking questions in a good way.

If you want to watch a mother-daughter duo get off to the most debased, nauseating things for two hours, it'll be right up your alley.

Feels like some of the dialog got lost in translation but it delivered on the surreal visuals, solid art film.
I vaguely recall catching a cam of Prometheus in Alabanian or some other Easter Euro shit with no subs
worked a lot better that way than with coherent dialog

I never got into that one despite it's reputation. It has a sort of acting that's hard to describe but I guess you could say is 'hyper-manic' to coin a phrase. I prefer 1989's Dr. Caligari more.

Dr. Caligari has been added to my list. I've only watched The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, the old, old film.

The acting from the leading lady in Singapore Sling reminded me of age-regression, like she was reverting back to when she was sexually abused as a child. It's brilliant and true to life if that was the intention.

I'll say that the film suffers pacing-wise. It starts off in such a demented place and then kind of tapers off for a while. I certainly never want to watch it again, but I will watch/read people breaking down the story so that I can try to make sense of it.

Finally saw The Outwaters. Probably the best "found footage horror" I've seen since the original Blair Witch Project. Recommendations are welcome, I haven't seen that many.

Negatives would be the very slow first act, especially because the relationship dynamics between the four characters are established for 25 minutes with no payoff. With the way it develops the four people could be perfect strangers for all it would impact the plot.

Positives are, setting aside its relentless mysteriousness and ultra-graphic thrills, the cinematography and sound design are incredibly good, especially for this subgenre that typically sticks to dry and purposely amateurish film structures in my experience. The endless beauty of the location and the experimental whimsy of the filmmaker come together to create a fucked up descent into hell that I couldn't take my eyes off for a second.

There are parts of this film that are burned into my mind now, which is not something I can say for a lot of other newer movies.

There's very few found footage pictures worth a god damn but I always recommend Zero Day which is a school shooter movie shot from the perspective of the killers.
