I'll bet they got to the scene where they ran over a kid, stopped watching, and said we can't do this. Fine by me. They'll just niggerfy it like they did with the Gladiator sequel. Avegenger's GF would be a black, 400lb, blind, paraplegic, but she's still going to somehow save his ass in the third act somehow. God I hate DEI shit.
 
I saw Longlegs. I wish I had listened to that voice in my head that still hates me for bothering with The Blackcoats Daughter. I was bitching about long pointless establishing shots of nothing to my friend though, and he said he liked them, because he was constantly searching for something horrible in them.
 
I saw Longlegs and it was not very good. I heard a lot of comparisons to Silence of the Lambs and the lead character being a chick FBI agent tracking down a serial killer is about where the similarities end. It felt more like a school project than a real movie.
 
Before giving my thoughts on Longlegs, I want to give thoughts on a several trailers I saw at my screening.


I like the concept of focusing on the serial killer evade capture and hiding his double life from his family, but I think that reveal could have been more impactful if it wasn't spoiled in the trailer. Then again, that may have been done to avoid misleading the audience. The question now is will the killer be one step ahead because he's smarter than the cops or were the cops written to be incompetent?


Based on the comments this is a US remake of a 2022 Danish film and most of them seem not to be happy about it being remake along with basically showing the whole film. Ever since Split, I wanted to see James McAvoy in more roles as a psychotic villain and I may check out this one.


This one was smart enough to not show too much and the plot as a big mystery. I'm guessing the twist may involve aliens given some lines that were said and if you know that some species of cuckoos lay their eggs in other birds' nests and have the other birds raise their young.

I did not have a bad experience with Longlegs, but I certainly did not find it to be perfect. I felt the score was unnecessary at times and may have gotten in the way of some of dialogue to where I could not hear what a character was saying. Also, putting two jump scares right before the opening credits felt lazy. The only jump scare I thought was earned was when Agent Harker found the photo she took of Longlegs. I liked the cinematography although some long shots could have been trimmed or tightened as it seemed like the director wanted you to look for something in the background when nothing was there. While I had no issues with the big twist I felt it could have been more creative with how Longlegs got his victims to themselves. It felt like it wanted to go the Hereditary route and I am still confused by what was spoon-fed in the third act.
 
I blindly watched The Vourdalak recently.

A very new French horror set in Eastern Europe during the 18th century with, as far as I can tell, zero CGI. It felt like a long lost 70's movie that somebody dug up and restored.

If it's not obvious from the poster it's basically a vampire movie, but very much from the folklore angle. I won't spoil but the set-up is it follows an emissary of the French king who, while passing through, takes up refuge at a house in a village that was pillaged by the Turks, and the patriarch has left a week prior to take revenge in battle. He never returns.

It also features a cool puppet which might make or break the experience for some. Afterwards I read that it's the director's first feature too.

 
Just saw Longlegs and I really didn't like it.
Imagine a Nior flick but there is literally no tension.
It fills all the cliche nior tropes.
1. Partner gets killed and gets transfered.
2. Is part of a new case
3. gets to know her superior and his family (FOR NO FUCKING REASON)
4. gets transfered to a case she is related to (FOR NO FUCKING REASON)
5. And to still make this a "Horror Nior" movie, they add satan in there for the last 20 minutes and voodoo shit /SPOILER]
I agree 100% with this take. Honestly it was disappointing because longlegs could have been really creepy but out of nowhere he would start singing or screaming and it took me completely out of the movie because you would just go (oh yeah that’s nic cage lol).

Longlegs was meh.

The film feared fathers, had stilted camera work (what happened to movement and energy in films?), the main character was a Zoomer autist placed into the 1990s and she would never have been allowed to be an FBI agent, even though she was clairvoyant (would she, after witnessing her partner being shot, hug a window for cover?). And would the black cop not state his daughter's birthday was on the 14th (or was it not a 14th?)? The supernatural element was an excuse for lazy writing and easy get outs. She did not have to investigate anything, she just knew. It saved the screenwriter from writing an intelligent character. I like T. Rex though it feels like an afterthought from Saltburn for the Tiktok audience. Cage was distracting and not particularly interesting.

I didn't hate it but I washed it out by watching Manhunter after.
 
I was thinking about Longlegs, a better ending would have been if her mum had taken off her wimple and walked over and hugged her, and while she was hugging her pulled the trigger on the gun, killing herself, and then the little girl started screaming that she killed everyone so in the end she was imprisoned as his accomplice. Although tbh I am still not sure what the ending was supposed to be saying. It was ambiguous enough to imply hope, which is a huge mistake in my book.
 

I don't know what to think of this. At the very least it might be a decent splatter flick. The premise is decent enough. But something about it seems off when you compare it to Eyetalian horror of yesteryear but it could just be how the trailer is edited. But I think what it lacks is the stylish camerawork and music. A huge part of those movies is the style. Style takes precedence over plot which can frustrate some who demand absolutely perfect logic to everything happening in a movie.
 

I might be late on this one. The directorial debut of Steven Boyle, VFX artist on countless films like District 9, Black Sheep, What We Do in the Shadows, 30 Days of Night etc, and pretty much every Spierig Brothers movie.

Some kind of fucked up "generational curse" body horror/possession movie with, to be expected, an emphasis on special effects.

I read the title while looking at the thumbnail and misread it as "The Wall" and thought I was about to watch /tv/ make its most mainstream shitpost ever.
