Freddy has his rules set pretty well, he gets you when you dream, you can pull him in to the real world if you wake up while you have a hold on him, when in the real world he can be defeated. It works because it's simple.

Make Pennywise a monster that takes the form of your worst fear, and he can look like a clown to lure kids in because kids have the biggest fears, he only shows up once ever 27 years and at the end of his hunt a big tragedy hits to keep the fear alive. That could work really well with out all the other stuff. I always felt that King was best when he did short stories, If IT had just been a short story about kids getting hunted by a clown monster it would have worked better.

The problem in regard to King I think goes back to how he wants to have an overarching universe in a lot of his stories. Derry, Maine can't just be it's own thing, it has to be close to Castle Rock and Jerusalem's Lot and those three are part of a world that ties into the Dark Tower books because the universe there was created by the giant turtle.

It isn't overly complicated as a monster, he even has to obey the rules of the form he takes like if he was a vampire he'd be weak to sunlight, garlic, etc and the idea of feeding off the fear of kids because their terror is "purer" is an interesting idea. It just watered down the more he had to tack on.
 
I watched Fulci's Zombi 2 / Zombie in 4k last night. Finally noticed after all this time that the shark had all its teeth pulled out. (:_(

I finally got around to From a Whisper to a Scream, it's been on my list for a bit, probably from this thread. It has Vincent Price and the name sounds like an older British movie, like And Now the Screaming Starts or Scream and Scream Again. From that, I thought it would be a little classier. Turns out, all four stories (it's an anthology) are utterly appalling, morally degenerate filth. Would certainly recommend.

It really is one of those super underrated anthology movies that no one really talks about for some reason. This one and Asylum (1972 Amicus production that came the absolute closest as being as good as their best anthology production Tales From the Crypt). I just never got why -even with the presence of Vincent Price- that the horror community turned their noses up at this one.
 
How the heck does Arrow decide what films to release? They got us the Ring Trilogy but why is Ju-On only available in the UK?

Art since Pennywise can only ever really hurt children and the occasional adult. Art also is pretty much invincible.

Distribution rights. They may eventually release it in the States, but Japan hates region free releases and lock titles to try and stop people from buying the less expensive overseas versions. Speaking of which, are you picking up the Criterion Blu for The Heroic Trio and its sequel?

They make deals with the studios. Some studios will only licences them for one region like Paramount. Sometime the rights to the movie belong to different parties in other countries or you have to deal with Europe and American branches the company to get something out. Can be a cost thing, where just too expensive to get the rights to every country you want or another company may have already made a deal within one of the areas.

From what I've heard MGM USA branch is super easy to deal with to get 4K out. while European branch is only letting Blu Ray happen. Arrow them self tried to get the 4K of Child's Play in their set, however were only able to get the blu ray for that.

Bright side is 4K is region free outside a few fuck ups where they region locked the disc.

Let's not forget frigging Chasing Amy and Fish Tank as well. Those are the odd picks off the top of my head. Thelma and Louise is a favorite of mine but even I don't know why it is in.

The reason for Heroic Trio that I can think of is not only Michelle Yeoh's career renaissance, but also because it was done by Janus Films. Criterion releases almost all of their restorations. Besides, the original DVD is out of print. I highly suggest the In The Line of Duty boxset by 88 Films as well as Supercop.

Godzilla always reminds me of my dad. He loved Godzilla, I got to show him the original version of the first movie when he was in the hospital. He loved it. I think I'm only missing one movie before I have them all. I always have a soft spot for Kaiju movies.
