Browsing through Tubi, I watched two 80s slashers that both developed a cult following in later years: Curtains and Graduation Day. I found Graduation Day utilized the mystery of who was the killer better along with the overall story. However, when a full reveal of the masked killer is shown at the halfway point, it eliminates a possible suspect when you look at the body type. Curtains had production issues that resulted in it being completed two years later. One of my main issues was that the lighting was so dark and it made seeing what was happening in night very difficult. Another was learning who the killer was. Basically it was a character you least expected and I think the issues behind-the-scenes may have been a factor. Probably the only memorable thing about Curtains is the poster.

Was Curtains ever broadcasted on USA Saturday Nightmares?

Se7en is still the best horror movie ever made even if it’s not strictly a straight horror film. That film is perfect in every way from story, characters writing visuals soundtrack, premise and the ending, holy shit that twist ending. It might be the cruelest ending to any movie ever created. If you haven’t seen it already I beg you see it now. It’s way waaay better than Fight Club and doesn’t have the same annoying fanbase either so it’s a win-win if you want a film that manages to combine multiple genres of horror, suspense and thriller all into a film at once

Forgive me for sounding blunt here, but

Okay what re your favourite horror films then?
If you want to be specific, it depends with subgenre. For example, John Carpenter's The Thing will always be my favorite horror movie, and it still is in a subgenre of horror as sci-fi/horror.

Yeah It’s a good film, I’m just surprised you negatively reacted to my choice because it’s a combination of genres similar to The Thing. Are you not a fan of David fincher (creator of fight club)

Also not to have to tag him but Internet War Criminal agrees it’s a 10/10 movie and classic for the ages, that pretty much says it.

You're missing the point here. I never mentioned David Fincher's name or his body of work (yes, I am a fan and Fight Club is one of my favorite movies, but that literally has nothing to do with what I'm talking about). It's the way you've been wording and assume that Se7en and Fight Club are horror movies. I want you to define what classifies as a horror movie

Fight club isn’t, but Se7en pretty much is a horror movie. The amount of gore, dark tone, deaths and especially the horrifying ending alone easily make it a horror. It’s not just a crime film, it’s a horror/mystery/crime film all in one. How many films can claim to be 3 different genres in one?! and balance them all equally and work in their own way? I’m waiting to see your answer TVB. Can you name any?

Gore isn't the only thing that makes a horror movie but it's the only thing that Seven has going for it. I'd say it's weird that you focus on gore so much but you have a Nazi sex pest OC so...
Of course it’s not just gore, the gore is secondary to the suspense and incredibly scary atmosphere that Se7en has. I don’t think know this is a complex one because yeah it isn’t technically a straight horror but it’s such a scary and bleak film it basically almost is one.

Ahh Fuck it @Internet War Criminal sorry for having to tag you but is Se7en a horror movie or not? I know it’s not strictly a straight ‘Horror’ movie but it has enough scary and dark thematic elements and gore to basically be horror. Tell these mofos also what they’re missing skipping Se7en.

I've seen the movie you stupid shit. I saw it when it came out. What sold it was the shock of the deaths, it was one of the first mainstream movies that did something like this. At the time it was something. I don't see it as a horror movie I see it as t thriller. I don't feel horror when I watch it. I'm not saying it's a bad movie, I'm saying I don't see it as a horror movie.

Yes what is done is horrific but it's the mystery and the motive of John Doe is what keeps people intrigued when watching it. I also remember when I first saw it with my mom at the end with the "WHAT'S IN THE BOX!!?" She started screaming "It's the baby. The killer cut out the baby and put it in the box. When I saw it I was more interested in solving the mystery then the horror. Just because something has horror elements doesn't mean it's horror. If that was the case they're are a lot of animated films from the 80s that could count as horror movies.

Again I'm not saying it's bad, I'm saying I don't see it as horror, there is more to it for me then just the gore.

Also get the creator of Fight club right, it's Chuck Palahniuk.

is Se7en a horror movie or not?

It's more of a psych thriller then anything else. Almost anything by Fincher is fantastic and a must watch. Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is one of my favorites simply for the scene where she gets back at the dude who raped her. He also snagged Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross to do an entire instrumental album that is fucking amazing.

Fincher does a great job hovering the line between gore and mind fuck.

ETA: wrong word.

Se7en isn't horror, it's just a brutal crime thriller. If it were horror it would focus more on showing the deaths rather than the implications and the aftermath.

Not to mention, if it were horror. Then by that logic the entirety of murder mystery is pretty much horror.

Horror elements are fun to see, but they don't necessarily make something horror. It's just added grit.

Unrelated, but saw a few Friday the 13th movies on Friday the 13th with some friends of mine. The first movie was pretty okay, not as great as some of the sequels. 5, 7, and 8 are all pretty goofy, and I had fun with them, and the Remake was surprisingly fun.

It's best to think of the first few Friday the 13th movies as camp fire ghost stories, 3 even starts with a recap like that I think. 4 was originally going to be the last one but it made money so they wanted to make more. They are all fun though, good group movies.

To better understand a horror movie that, even though is similar to Se7en, but it's still a straight-up horror movie, something like Saw comes to mind. Se7en is not horror. It's a crime thriller, but it's not enough to be considered scary to merit that genre. That'd be like saying a reference movie, like the ones made by Seltzerberg during the mid-to-late 2000s, would be classified as parodies. Sure, you argue that the movies that were released at the time are what they're trying to make fun of, but the final result is just referencing quotes and dialogues from said movies that were out without using any sort of wit or punchline. You get what I'm saying?

Tbh that's a good way to put it.
