Does Shudder even have anything worth watching aside from Joe Bob?
Finding the odd hidden gem or classic is kind of part of the fun imo. If you just plain love horror then it's worth it. Maybe not worth the 77 a year but still.

I watched X from 2022. It was interesting, I could tell it was trying to be like a 70s grimy horror movie but some parts were still too modern. Some scenes are amazing though, like the one with the gator. It was trying to say something or other about sex workers and the porn industry, but I'm not sure what. The characters say "sex is just sex", but we see in the villains what happens to sex starved or sex obsessed people to an extreme degree. Might be worth a rewatch in case I missed anything.

Put Blood Sucking Freaks back on Shudder, I wanna show it to my wife to see how she reacts.
Isn't it on Tubi or Roku or Freevee? I'm pretty sure I watched it on one of those. I mean there's ads but sometimes you should take a break from cannibal midgets and corrupt cops.

I'm tempted to use a Simpsons meme but no. They occasionally get a good exclusive like Mandy or The Sadness but it's pretty rare. Joe Bob Briggs is the only thing propping up their network because no one wants to watch the tranny drag show they have, or more woke shit, or more terrible horror shows like Creepshow.

I always recommend Tubi because the catalogue is huge. You can also use an adblocker if you watch it in Desktop mode.

I've had this list of fucked up books for a while its served me well for getting re-engaged with reading and my innate love of horror, it's certainly a slow hobby. However, I'm always looking for books outside of this list like Exquisite Corpse, while also curious if there is a movie equivalent of this. I find that the literature here strikes a good balance of horrific ideas, ascetic awareness and consistent execution. Movies like MAD GOD, The House that Jack Built, The Banshee Chapter, Donnie Darko, Rubber and more are what I'm curious about.
I know I sent you the link but I just took a good look at the image in your post and I'm laughing my ass off. Most of the titles are taken from my thread: https://kiwifarms.st/threads/best-fucked-up-books.52217/

And some of the titles are explicitly ones I recommended. I'm somewhat flattered and I don't think I'm being pretentious because who in the fuck will talk about The Eyes or Wittkopp's The Necrophiliac? Clickbait sites once again steal Farm content. What site is this list from?

Watched The Night Eats the World last year, and I thought it was a pretty good movie. It’s a French zombie film based off a novel of the same name, but it’s in English and It’s not your typical zombie movie where people are getting eaten and there’s action and tension everywhere. It’s about some average dude stuck inside an apartment building during a sudden zombie apocalypse and how he tries to occupy his time living alone and staying sane. The zombies are pretty interesting, too because they don’t make any noise besides the sound of their stiffened joints and tendons moving. It might not be for everyone, but I enjoyed it. It also has a pretty interesting hidden theme that I don’t see a lot of people pick up on, but becomes so obvious once you realize it.

If you have time to kill and don’t mind a slow-burn with a zombie twist, there’s a re-upload of the movie on YouTube.

Saving this for later because I'm always here for new zombie shit.
Sounds like an old book I read where it was set during a zombie pandemic and it was sorta like a historical archive of PSA, some songs written, family letters and news broadcasts. Mildly interesting if I remember.

I found this image about a year and a half ago from a disturbing book /lit/ thread. Its pretty cool to have found more or less the source of all those recommendations and the stuff I've read from it so far definitely seems more interesting than the cheesy splatterpunk recommendations on r/ExtremeHorrorLit.

I'm right now slogging my way through Assisted Living by Nikanor Teratologen and while it's style was interesting in the beginning the sheer amount of vulgarity and surface level references it crams into each page really wears on the reader. I'm kind of thankful that the other two books in the trilogy aren't translated because I know I would feel compelled to read them just because I read the first.

Makes sense. 4chan discovered The Eyes and hail it as a the most extreme modern book.

Tubi has the best horror selection of all the streaming services. They have alot of great obscure shit.
They just need better curation. That's the only thing holding them back.

OK I'm very (spoooookily) LATE (as in the LATE Paul Reubens) with my October list, but here goes. I'm sticking with micro budgets, slow burns, depression inducing and just weird shit (although there are a few heartwarming gems in there).

1. Kill List (Mr. Ben Wheatley's masterpiece; poor guy peaked too soon; it's only flaw is an absence of young Alice Lowe)
2. Prevenge (speaking of Alice Lowe; yeah she's pregnant, but still somehow sexy when murdering faggots; watch for the awesome Mike Wozniak cameo (only awesome because it exists))
3. Resolution (pretty much the king of micro-budgets; slow burn, but when it goes off, it kind of goes the fuck off)
4. Creep (2014) (Yeah I hate Mark Duplass as much as you do, but this is a good fucking movie)
5. The Ritual (2017) (It's a little muddled, but I still like it; all the characters are likeable and not fucking retarded. Remember movies like that?)
6. For the Sake of Vicious (After the first three times you think you have the movie figured out, you sit back and just enjoy it. My personal king of the micros.)
7. My Heart Can't Beat Unless You Tell It To (See I told you there'd be heartwarming gems)
8. The Bay (How does this film
9. The Boys from County Hell (More charming than actually good, still fun) work?!? Found footage, Barry Levinson (of Diner and Wag the Dog fame), Conspiracy!, body horror - I don't know but it works. Why did Kether Donohue have to get fat. Told you there'd be depression inducing ones.)
10. A Dark Song (Not the best re-watch, but that first time is so good)
11. Censor (Needs nudity, but it's OK otherwise)
12. The Signal (2007) (This has something for everyone, one segment is definitely the strongest, but I can never decide which one)
13. We Are What We Are (Kind of mid for this list, but worth it because they kill vegetarian Kelly McGillis)
14. Psycho Goreman (Another heartwarming gem...I'm kind of a sap, ain't I)
15. Deerskin (French (yeah, sorry, you can read subtitles for ONE movie!) batshit lunacy done right. Not scary, but really fun.)
16. One Cut of the Dead (Let's get all the foreign movies out of the way; You've probably already seen this anyway, but it's always worth a re-watch)
17. Housebound (Aussie, but acceptable)
18. Lake Mungo (Yeah, everyone's seen this, it's still good).
19. Southbound (I had to put at least one anthology on here)
20. The Hole in the Ground (Ireland's answer to The Babadook, so it's a little gay, but still good)
21. The Hallow (See, I'm a fun guy)
22. Grabbers (A great drinking horror movie.)
23. Dig Two Graves (I don't understand how a movie that is the opposite of everything I believe can still be good. Oh, Ted Levine, that's how.)
24. Feast (2005) (A trope-breaking good time)
25. Baskin (Believe me, I'm the last person I thought would recommend a Turkish horror movie, yet here we are)
26. The Autopsy of Jane Doe (Kind of pussies out on the end, but it has Brian Cox. He's big bear, he's iron tough!)
27. Excision (Sometimes a good lead can just make up for everything)
28. The Void (Why did they get worse instead of better)
29. Possessor (Infinity Pool was a big letdown, but I still love this one. Especially the ending.)
30. 28 Days Later (Gets better every year)
31. The Devil's Rejects (Don't care, best movie to watch on Halloween while drinking.)

If you want, you can substitute stuff like Mandy, Dogtooth, Killing of a Sacred Deer, The ABCs of Death (2), Beyond the Black Rainbow, Rubber, Eden Lake, Starry Eyes, Upstream Color or what have you, but I figured they were pretty well known (even though there's some pretty well known ones in the list already) or not horror-y enough. Also it's weighted towards the front, so you may want to re-order them, it doesn't like build or anything, just pretty much as I remembered them.

I know a certain film curator that's well versed in harrer movies

But I like how they just have a good supply of awful independent stuff. Reminds me of going to the rental store and picking up those awful lions gate cheapos.

Do I make a balls on the dick joke or a where did the hair go joke?

I've been watching some breakdowns and analyses on The Shining. It's fascinating how much detail Kubrick put into that movie, how many little subtleties can be (ahem) overlooked.

It makes me wonder how much of it is deliberate and how much was just unintended knock-on effects that worked really well. For example, I wouldn't really have noticed the Overlook's inconsistent layout that doesn't make sense when you try to map it out, or the lights turning on and off between shots.

Normally, I'd consider those just oversights, as the interior scenes were all shot on a set in England. But Kubrick was autistically fussy about getting every shot perfect. The actors became so shaken up over being nitpicked, bullied, and micromanaged that they started behaving erratically, and that behavior was in the final cut of the film.

Alas, some commenters can get into MovieBob levels of Blue Curtain Analysis.

"Look, Dick is talking to Danny about Shining, as light is shining off his bald head!"

I went through Saw 3D and Jigsaw

Saw 3D was meh, but it still had moments that made me laugh especially with some of the traps and Hoffman who carried the movie.

Jigsaw was pretty bad, and it probably has the most nonsensical twist in the series that is really convoluted. Still better than Spiral.

There's a deliberate amount of that. The most obvious scene showing this is when Jack talks to Grady in the bathroom Kubrick does cross the line when editing between the shots. But I don't think there's any deeper symbolism beyond just unnerving the viewer. There's an observation I never noticed before that Louis CK of all dudes pointed out:

When Danny is playing with his tricycle the camera is stationed in almost a 3rd person perspective but it's totally symmetrical. Kubrick could have shot this scene 1st person very easily. Or did it more stagey with more cutting. But the 3rd person perspective implies that there is something watching the child.

Eyes Wide Shut tho... Woah boy, there is a lot to talk about with that one and even a friend of mine who does not care about politics or conspiracy theories and is completely out of touch with internet bullshit even he agrees that there's intentional allusions to the Elite and people like Epstein.

If you guys don't stop me then I'll sperg about Eyes Wide Shut.

I went into Killer Shrews knowing nothing except that they used dogs to play the shrews and it was used for a MST3K episode. But George Romero obviously borrowed heavily from it for NotLD. The similarities between certain scenes are pretty strong. For a 50s movie with clearly visible boom mics it's not bad.

And Evil Dead fans might want to check out Equinox to see where some of that came from...

Not really. It's getting harder and harder to justify my subscription.
Arrow is another streaming service for horror, maybe worth looking at their lineup

unsure if this is the new movies for America or UK or both this month, but an idea what type of stuff they normally have

No one stopped me so here is some Eyes Wide Shut sperging. I'm not going to analyze the entire fucking movie but I just wanted to prove a point I suppose? Because we all know the BS that's going on and has been going for god knows how long but there's going to be that one guy who stands up and say's "I don't believe that. I think it's just a marriage drama with thriller elements. That's all it is. 5/10 Kubrick film. I still prefer Full Metal Jacket." Because I think this one scene in particular is a good display of what's hidden beneath the surface of this film.

5 minutes in: Cruise meets an old friend (the piano player) and they shoot the shit. Note the dialogue:

EWS 1.JPG

I don't feel like typing out every single line so excuse my image posting from the script. But keep in mind Bill's line "I never did understand why you walked away." HINT HINT. Also, note the shape of the lights in the background are in the shape of breasts.

EWS 2.JPG

Cruise and Kidman then have their flirtations and ultimately reject cheating on each other but with Cruise he didn't have much choice because he was interrupted with a request from an assistant to check on Sydney Pollack's character. Cut to an elegant bathroom:

EWS 3.JPG

Pollack explains to Cruise that the whore shot up and "had a bad reaction." Note that there's no track marks, no drugs, no blood, nothing in the shot physically showing that she has been drugged. If she just shot up shouldn't there be a syringe or something in the shot? And you can't say that Pollack cleaned up because we see him immediately zipping up as he just finished with her. Not to mention that him zipping up as she's passed out is implying that he fucked her while she was unconscious. Also, as a filmmaker wouldn't you show the drugs or drug paraphernalia to make it clear what exactly happened? It's possible the woman shot up behind her knee or between her toes (some depraved junkies even shoot into their dick veins) but we see none of that.

Blink and you miss it shot:

EWS 4.JPG

Yes, a painting of a nude pregnant woman (HINT HINT) and Kubrick frames the shot so that the whore is beneath but to the side of the painting.

The framing is pretty god damn deliberate right here:

EWS 5.JPG

Pollack's body blocks the pregnancy from being obvious which could be another allusion...

Later on, Cruise checks on the whore and she snaps out of whatever was given to her on her own. Pollack addresses the whore:

EWS 7.JPG

Note the word 'kiddo' and also Pollack's body language. He looks down at her in a domineering way. Note: this is a thing and you're free to look this up, when child pornographers take shots of their victims they like to do (I think it's called) a predator shot where the camera is high and looking down at the subject with the subject looking up at the camera implying domination.

Once you notice this shit the film becomes a subtle masterpiece. There's so much to dissect. Personally, I don't think Kubrick was killed by the illuminati either. But I find it interesting that his daughter (who shot the making of documentary for The Shining and was on set with him from The Shining onwards) is based and redpilled:

Journo scum do their usual bullshit to keep her quiet: https://web.archive.org/web/2023060...n-is-a-far-right-proud-boys-and-qanon-fanatic

Needless to say that there is a lot to talk about. In an alternate timeline Kubrick lived another decade or so and collaborated with Alex Jones.
