Since I feel like being controversial my personal all time favourite horror movie has to be 1995's David Fincher's Se7en, not strictly a straight Horror film I know but I think it contains enough gruesome elements and central themes to be more or less considered horror. It’s basically perfect, the acting, directing, brilliant premise, cinematography, story, themes and especially the fucking ending are all polished within an inch of its life from start to finish and are immaculate from beginning to end. It also doubles as an incredible thriller and is the perfect noir film for the ages and is also one of the scariest Horror's throughout not through excessive gore but simply the themes and the horrifying thing's it exposes about the human condition and its depths of evil. I don't think anything can top it in terms of being the scariest and possibly saddest movie ever for that ending alone. 10/10 classic for the ages that everyone should check out at least once.

Looks like a somewhat good premise, coupled with competent film-making...that will be ruined by having all the characters be so odious and unlikeable that by 20 minutes in you won't give a shit about what happens to them.

Consecration

Not the worst movie ever made, but fairly mediocre. Pretty hilarious to hear Jena Malone attempt a Scottish accent. Not entirely sure why they didn't just go for a native Scottish actress but there you go. Guess they wanted a somewhat "big" name on the poster. The pacing of the movie, sadly, is rather extremely slow which isn't always a bad thing, however in this case the movie doesn't have enough substance to justify it. Still, for a Sunday afternoon lazy viewing, it served its purpose adequately.

Wouldn't call it horror but yeah, it's a perfect 10/10 modern noir.
Jena Malone
she peaked with donnie darko and it was all downhill from there

New A24 horror trailer just dropped.

I don't know, if this was any studio aside from A24 I'd be pumped, but I don't know if they know how to make horror movies that are not pretentious bullshit with ~the message~ anymore so I'll be cautious in approaching it.

I honestly want to see it just to see what happens to the kangaroo. It's an aussie film, so I wonder if its their version of a cat scare or its important. I do have to admit that it did make me think of underused animals in horror films...

Maybe a koala as well?

Guys...

I just got my Blood Doll:

I need more horror figurines on my shelf.
I swore that I would stop once I bought Patrick Bateman. I was very close to getting the footlong version of the toy that has voice lines from the movie. And yes, he does say "Sabrina don't just stare at it! Eat it!" with Christian Bale's voice but that toy goes for like $500+. But I got high and saw the Blood Doll and thought "This is one of the stupidest things I will ever buy but it'll be a conversation starter!"

Last night I accidentally re-watched a movie. Gotta' love alternate titles. I decided to watch The Devil's Female (1974) but as I was watching it I realized I saw it many years ago as Magdalena. I think this was the first Exorcist ripoff to come out (originally in Europe anyway). 1974 had at least 4-5 Exorcist knockoffs especially when you include the Blaxploitation parody movie Abby.

Nothing too special when it comes to Exorcist ripoffs. The only thing notable about it is the explicit nudity and the gorgeousness of our lead actress. It's funny when it comes to Exorcist ripoffs that there's not a single movie that is almost as objectively good or makes up for it by being super entertaining. Unlike other ripoffs I can think of.

The closest you get to a good and/or very entertaining Exorcist knockoff is Beyond the Door which has unsettling moments and does something slightly different.

Actually, it is a pretty good movie. Relevant to our trying times.

I saw that expecting the most shocking thing and I found it really tame. Shocking for 73 no doubt about that. I would welcome a remake that goes all into the concept and showcases all manner of depravity.

I'm actually glad they didn't push it too far. A more realistic modern remake would be like a bunch of low-functioning lolcow threads mashed together with every NSFL spoiler open. Hardly any limit to how disgusting it could be.
