Anyone watched The Midnight Club yet (from Mike Flannagan, director of Midnight Mass, Haunting of Hill House, Oculus, Doctor Sleep)? I'm only 3 episodes in so far, I really dig it. It's definitely different from his last two series, but fairly creepy and the mystery is very interesting so far.
Both Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass were 10/10 shows, I hope this is the case here too
Honestly the only thing grating me in The Midnight Club is the injection of modern politics in the 90s. Especially the AIDS subplot. Fag nurse going to fag teenager 'Hey, we know that people don't just get aids from unprotected anal sex, for example they also get it from sharing needles! Also, no one is scared of aids blood!'
Nigga people were 100% scared of aids blood back then, today they would still be freaked about it if someone with aids splashed blood in their direction, and guess what, yeah unprotected gay sex, sharing needles... AND THAT'S IT. You're more likely to win the lottery twice in a row than ever get aids if you're not a sexual deviant or junkie.
Teenagers in the 90s were not cool with faggots either, and certainly not super religious kids either. That and the anti-religious shit. Especially if this is happening in 1994/early 1995 like the Interview with the Vampire reference seems to indicate
It feels like a step back from Midnight Mass as far as maturity goes, and it's a disappointment. The curse of expectations I guess.
So, yeah, great show, it's only a tiny part of the plot, but it's fucking grating when it pops up and if it gets worse, it's not getting a 10/10 for sure though. Even if it's just 9.5/10.
