Well, Kane Hodder is apparently doing the motion capture for Leatherface, so probably.
I mean, okay, Gunnar Hansen is dead and really none of the other guys who played Leatherface were as iconic. I know Kane played Leatherface before, most notably in this:

And he did the stunts in the movie but it's still weird to see him technically play Leatherface. What's next? Is he going to play Myers in Halloween Ends?

If I were in charge of Syfy, I'd ditch all of the woeful, gimmicky CGI monster-of-the-week flicks and concentrate on making high-quality low-budget movies like Roger Corman's Not of This Earth (1957). A great script and a young crew eager to prove themselves capable filmmakers can work wonders. Just ask Corman.

Ironically, they used to do that back in the early to mid 90's. The Dune mini series was their biggest event. Not long after that came the wave of Asylum productions.

Read the first few lines and was a quick "Nope!" from me, sir.
I just finished it. FWIW, I had some issues with aspects of it but thought it was worth reading through until the end.

Now I'm going to watch the 2011 "prequel" because I love The Thing and can't watch it again for the first time. I know it's gonna suck...

It's... not as bad as you think it's gonna be.

Not great, but as far as those types of movies go, it's.... not terrible.

Yeah... it wasn't very good.

Decent cast (having a stronk wammen lead was done, I'm sure, for the wrong reasons, but at least it was something different), generally okay dialogue (though some really awful lines stand out), a boring as fuck conventional soundtrack (better to have just aped the Morricone score the entire time, honestly), alright script (some inventive concepts that weren't copied from the '82 version, at least), and, yes, pretty bad CGI. There was some creativity with the monster behavior/appearance but almost no tension except for a few scenes. (Way, way too much showing the creature in clear shots... I appreciate they tried to make it a more intense form of horror, like RE4 after the classic RE games, but it just didn't work.) Even if it had all been practical effects it wouldn't have been scary.

A totally pointless film. It's made for people who saw the original but adds nothing to it. It doesn't feel like it takes place in the 80s which is stupid as fuck. (The "reveal" that it's a prequel is kind of weak, though I see what they were going for, avoiding showing too much technology throughout the film that would date it.) No really memorable performances. (I love Mary Elizabeth Winstead but she's kind of wasted here. Kurt Russell she ain't.)

And you can feel the studio interference in various ways, like unnatural expository dialogue and other insultingly explicit lines that assume the audience is stupid. (Example: can't just let the audience notice the guy's earring, have to point it out... and why exactly couldn't the "thing" wear an earring? It's smart enough to talk...)

Not good. Glad I have seen it so I know for sure it isn't good. A relative told me he saw this one first, which just about breaks my heart. Bleh.

I don't know if I'll watch Harbinger Down, which I just learned exists. I'm sure it's even worse than this. I hope that Thing miniseries I heard about a while ago is fucking dead.

I think even if The Thing Prequel had the practical effects still in the movie it still wouldn't be great. I would be curious to see that original cut but at the end of the day I think it would merely elevate the film from "bad and forgettable" to "decent and forgettable." Harbinger Down is an easy skip. For all the talk of practical effects the effects you do see are anything but impressive.

So, uh... while looking up IMdb trivia on the movie I just watched, I saw a "related film" with a good rating called "The Thing Returns" that came out... this year?

The trailer did not disappoint.

Constantino films has apparently released a LOT of movies this year, including an unofficial sequel to Halloween and something called "Sith Wars." Earlier projects include a sequel to Jaws and what looks like a Hellraiser ripoff. All of them have trailers on his channel.

I have no idea if these are genuine attempts at cinema, but I guess a Portuguese shlub making knockoffs in grandma's house isn't threatening enough to be sued by the big boys. Anyway, Rui Constantino very well might deserve a thread here...

It's kinda gay, but you guys remember fearnet? Fear net was my cozy little corner where I'd watch horror movies and even discovered some of my favorites.
Anyway, I remember they had a little anthology series and I remember nothing about it other than they had Serj Tankian do the theme song.

Anywho. Today's movie was an old one. The Incredible Melting Man. This is some old Sci fi horror schlock about an astronaut who comes back from space as a Melting man man of flesh, killing anything in his path.
Story is eh but the titular Melting Man was really disgusting. Worth at least checking out the kills.

We had The Incredible Melting Man on movie night extremely late. It put everyone to sleep. The makeup is great but that's about all it has going for it.

Halloween Kills Extended Cut is out? Anyone find a list of differences?

I didn't think it was supposed to be out till January, but yeah I'm seeing it up on torrent sites.

Haven't watched it yet but from what I remember reading it's supposed to have an alternate ending and a few more scenes fleshing out the non-Strode characters.

Saw both Count Yorga flicks on Blu-ray last weekend. The scene in "Return of" where the young detective encounters his vampire girlfriend in a darkened room in Yorga's mansion still remains one of the scariest in horror cinema.

It's rare, very rare, for any horror film made in the past 20 years to chill my marrow as all good horror films ought to. There's way too much reliance on gore and cypher characters whose set-piece deaths carry no emotional weight. If you want to see two truly terrifying cinematic demises, check out Piggy's in the original Lord of the Flies film and Nancy's in Oliver. Give me a horror movie with deaths as impactful as those and you'll give me a great horror movie.

If I was Syfy i'd bring back Blood Drive. I was really into that show until it got canned after one season for no reason.

I also liked Stan against evil, but that was IFC and not Syfy tbh.

I'm watching the extended cut of Halloween Kills. Big differences I noticed is that it holds on the gore for a bit longer. That was appreciated. And there's a scene with the mother entering an autopsy room looking for her dead husband. I skipped through most of the movie. I honestly believe there's about 30-40 minutes of good material sandwiched between absolute crap. The alternate ending just has Jamie Lee Curtis going into revenge mode holding a knife. That's it.

I mean, at least there's more gore. I want to fan-edit this thing.

I liked Blacula when I was I like 7-8 years old. Anyone ever see Dracula Rising which was Universal's first attempt at a Dark Universe?
iirc both Blacula movies are actually pretty good.
The core joke is expecting some Dolemite-looking vampire going "bleh! I vant to suck your blood, jive turkey!" But they actually play it straight. The guy playing the title character was a serious business stage guy (Richard Daystrom in Star Trek TOS) and he pulls off a good range of stuff. And the sequel has Pam Grier
