In the novelization Karen does briefly think about how this guy must have done something very extreme to get put in the same crowd as Michael Myers, and she tries to be on guard around him when she finally catches up with him.

This author is doing everything he can to try and save this thing.
 
I just finished watching the Friday the 13th the series and for something made in the early 90s the covered some crazy stuff.
 
You get a few glimpses into Michael's mind in this novelization.

For instance, he considers the mask his true face, and he finds the sensation of the night air hitting his bare face revolting.

I just find this whole thing of Michael being so attached to his mask, and the mask being this almost mystical object to be dumb. In the original it sounded like he just grabbed a random mask from the hardware store he broke into.

It looks....mixed. To be fair this IS just a teaser so we can't know much for certain just yet but idk about this one. Some things look promising though, like the ax from the original and the use of the song jeeper's creepers being back. That song was brought up as a plot device signaling when the creeper's around in the original but it was dropped from both 2 and 3.

It looks like Victor Salva has nothing to do with this one, so that's a good sign.
 
Mute Witness (1995) - more suspense than horror but the sort of film that goes well with the season. Mute makeup FX artist Billy is in Moscow, working on a film directed by her sister's boyfriend. She goes back to the set after hours and ends up pursued after witnessing the production of a snuff film. The opening half-hour’s cat-&-mouse sequence is suspense perfection as she tries to make her escape while chased by the two killers. Later, the tension is kept up even as the involved parties, twists, and violence escalate. Dir. Anthony Waller draws from Hitchcock & De Palma while crafting his own distinct gem of a film.
 
This book is a treasure trove. I found another reference!

The scene where Tommy is trying to recruit people on the street to join the fight against Myers ends with Tommy walking back to his car and uttering, "Trick or treat, motherfucker", to himself.

It makes perfect sense in the context of the Rob Zombie Halloween as the mask obsession is presented as part of his mental illness. It's a stretch, but you could kind of read the mask fixation from the original film's opening where he goes out of his way to put on his clown mask before killing his sister and essentially goes catatonic when his parents take it off. I guess the 2018 film vaguely hinted at it when the other asylum inmates and guard dogs freaked the fuck out at the sight of it and is never touched on again until the very end of Kills.

Since you've read the novel there's something I noticed during the ending that I was curious if the book even mentions:
When Karen is luring Michael out of the house with the mask, there's a subtle transparent glitch effect on her face when she talks about his sister. I thought it was just a streaming artifact until I watched it again on my computer where it was even more obvious. I'm assuming they're pushing even more supernatural elements beyond his seeming indestructability when wearing the mask since it looks like she gets lured up to her death after seeing a vision of what he looked like the night he killed his sister in the window. Is any of this shit brought up in the novelization?
 
So fire in the sky is NOT a horror movie at heart, but I'd say it's got some of the most disgusting depictions of aliens in cinema history. Dear christ, the probing scene.

I noticed that glitch thing too, but there's nothing about it in the novel.

It's most likely just some weird error on Peacock's part.
 
I’m not the most knowledgeable horror sperg on the planet but I do gotta say I really prefer older films where they were just throwing stuff against the wall to see what stuck.

Goofy ass schlock, like Frankenhooker and Reanimator, is probably my favorite sub category of horror. A lot of people didn’t like Slither but that shit was funny as hell to me.

I’d say one of my absolute top pics for random films to watch are the first two Phantasm films though.. Tall Man remains creepy as fuck to this day (RIP Angus Scrimm you wonderful weirdo) and something about the Orbs amuses me endlessly.

I considered that, but the placement and timing would have to be the mother of all coincidences. It also looks suspiciously like a cheap looking video effect I've seen in other movies like the Elm Street remake. If it is deliberate, then the omission from the novel would mean it was something they pulled out of their ass late in filming or post production.

My doctor actually lived in the same part of Arizona and knew Travis Walton on some kind of personal level. I never pry very much though.

I agree with you though. The xenomorph is my favorite alien depiction but the ones in Fire In The Sky are the most nightmare inducing.

Has anyone ever seen Terrifier? I mentioned it in another thread but its a slasher from 2016 about this clown that hacks up people. Pretty generic premises but the movie is actually really good and the clown's makeup is grade A. Its also a flick that manages to be terrifying but also funny if you have a really dark sense of humor. Pretty great murders in the movie too, don't want to spoil it too much. Its been on my October rotation for several years.

Honestly, it didn't really scare me but some of the murders made me cringe. I still enjoyed it and the clown is a recurring character in some mini-series of movies that use to be on YT. I'll try to find them.

edit - the subs are kind of fucked. Sorry.

All these stories are pretty good except for the alien one which is plain goofy.

So movies for the last week include:

They Look Like People is indie horror done right. Guy reconnects with his childhood friend who just dropped everything and showed up in his life all of a sudden. Also there might be a demonic invasion going on, or his friend is schizophrenic. Which one is it? Up to you to find out. Low budget, clearly an auteur's effort, and it was overall very satisfying. Definitely indie to its core, more indie than horror in fact, but very satisfying. 4/5

Hypnotic is so much better than Malignant and a much better vehicle for Kate Siegel. Some dumb chick who can't get over her traumas boohoo decides to go to a new hypnotherapist, who turns out to be a creep and now controls her life and shit and the life of his patients around them, spooky stuff happens, the dude is very good at being a creep. 3.5-4/5

Also watched Intrusion, There's Someone Inside Your House, The Battery and The Dinner Party, will review when I have a second

It bombed on release, but people who have seen it seem to like it. Night of the Creeps, the movie Slither was inspired by, also bombed. So I guess they should have seen that coming.

I might be repeating myself, but Slither was fun; yet Gunn peaked with Super.

Another one I need to re-watch but Super is probably his masterpiece. It's funny, Tromeo & Juliet leaves me pretty cold despite some great moments "You always did like The Crying Game!"
