Yeah when I saw the reflection in the window I was like oh shit it's on. Pretty disappointed with how it ended (considering how it started)

I mean then again I literally just started HK again to rewatch it so obviously I thought it was entertaining and not shit. It just could be so much better.

I think that's because of the failure of H3 (it nearly killed the series) and then the backlash towards H4's ending more than New Beginning is to blame here

Exactly you killed off possible what could have been the biggest hype since Jason vs Freddy for horror fans with a generic horror ending

oh yes Halloween 3 almost killed the franchise I forget about that. Honestly it makes me wonder what Friday the 13th and Halloween would have been like if they sticked to what they originally intended. As scream and Saw showed its not too bad to change up who the killer is for your movie series. Saw has had many different killers in it's movies yet John Kramer is still well loved. Despite not being the killer in all the movies

I have to say, the cinematography is fucking top notch. When Laurie's daughter washes her hand at the hospital then breaks down, it's fucking framed/filmed wonderfully. They had a really competent team and it's a shame that the story ended up being inconsistent, I think that there was enough in that movie to make something that could have been in the same league as the original Halloween.

I agree like I said I find there's alot of miss opportunities in this movie. I thought it was ok. If they had change certain things I would have love it.

Honestly if they had ending the movie the why we discussed above. You could have had Freddy vs Jason level of hype for the next movie.

So tonight's first movie was

Halloween Kills (Rushed Fan Edit). I removed everything that had to do with the hospital save from the first scene, the later conversation about how it's not about Laurie and she needs to shut the fuck about and stop making it about herself (hashtag white women) and the final voice over. Removed most of the pointless discussions in the bar. Trimmed it down to about 1:30. What a difference it makes. Rough around the edges, it's not like I did a great job and I could have fine tuned the cuts, I'm gonna wait to see people who are actually good with fan edits and what they do with it, but even with those small (imperfect) cuts, it turned the movie from a 2.5/5 to basically a 4/5. Hopefully there's a director's cut that and deleted scenes blu rays that allows people to turn it into something better, with the right edits it might legit become top tier Halloween.

Gonna follow that up with either Meander or Return to Nuke 'Em High

Not only that but it would have made the ending even more powerful because of the absolute glee that Laurie's daughter takes in watching Michael get his shit wrecked, and then kills him. So that she gets possessed and becomes the darkness herself would have made lots of thematic sense. Michael was freed and back to his childish innocence as seen in the reflection in the window, and she in turns becomes the murderer etc...

That would have been epic
that would have been very symbolic. Michael would be free of his darkness and return to being a child. Well Laurie's daughter would become a murderer. That scene where she sees 6 year old Michael would almost be like them trading places in a weird why. Michael's terror ends, but a new one begins

It's too much like the ending to Halloween 4, though.

was gonna watch Edward Scissorhands for tonight but...Looking it up the movie is more fantasy drama than horror. There's buton's signature dark tone and imagery but the music isn't spooky enough, the "monster." Isn't really one just mistaken for one almost akin to the original Frankenstien monster. And most of that doesn't ahppen till the final act. The rest of the film is more dark comedy with some sadder momments in between.

So that ones of the list, a better fit would be Sleepy hollow or dark shadows. Those fit the horror bill a lot better sleepy hollow especially since its essentially Burton's tribute to the hammer horror film.

And yes Dark Shadows is a guilty pleasure of mine, its mostly cause I don't have any attachment to the tv show that a lot of people were biased over, (didn't even know it was based on one till i looked it up) and keep in mind in 2012 the vampire genre needed a serious face lift. This was the year of the final Twilight film and that franchise's ilk was STILL making it next to impossible to take anything with vampires in it seriously even as it was wrapping up.

Watched Donnie Darko and that movie is a horror film, not even gonna lie. I'd consider it a existentialist horror and it's absolutely fucking worth a watch. It's one of the trippiest things I have ever watched.
Great film. Maybe a masterpiece. Just avoid the director's cut. A shame that the director was a one trick pony.

Edit: so what have I been watching this month considering I watch horror movies and weird shit all the fucking time?

Black Devil Doll from Hell and Tales from the Quadead Zone. Chester N. Turner's trash epics. It's clear from interviews that Turner is not very self-aware of why people enjoy his two shot on shitteo pictures. I give the guy credit for getting his shit made and out there but they're trash films and should be mocked. They're both fun to watch but I would avoid the extended version of Black Dell From Hell not unless you want to experience an exercise in tedium.

Trivia: there is a pseudo remake called Black Devil Doll.

It's, er, better than Chester's movie. As low bar as that is. A lot of stripper titties on display. To be fair to the filmmakers, everyone legit thought Chester N. Turner was dead so they thought they had free reign to do a pseudo remake. There was even a Chester impersonator on Myspace back in the day. The guy had a decent following before he was found out. Imagine being so pathetic to impersonate Chester N. Turner.

The Other Hell.

A re-watch but I was able to get into it more. Of all of the Mattei/Fragasso collaborations this one is the absolute closest they got to competence. It does have some neat imagery and the plot is unique enough. It does have some patented Bruno moments like towards the end where they use a baby doll in place of a baby. This one has a small following and I can kind of see why if you really like Nunsploitation or enjoy anti-Catholic nun films you might appreciate this one. But it's slow and nothing really big happens until the 3rd act.

Halloween Kills and RZ's Halloween 2 as mentioned.

I'm going to try to check out Incident at Ghostland later.

I love those early Troma movies. Entertaining schlock with a mix of genres. The Nuke 'Em High theme song is quite catchy.

Slight PL, but I attended a convention where he and Shirley were there promoting the release of the film and its soundtrack. It's sad in a way, because both the director and the "star" aren't aware they're part of the joke and the attention towards the movie is ironic. At least Massacre Video gave him some money to rerelease his dreck on dvd. Oddly enough, Massacre Video is also releasing the incel documentary called "TFW NO GF" which is not really the type of stuff he usually releases.

Tried to watch Blood Creek (2009) one of the last things Joel Schumacher directed and I thought he was a fine director. Falling Down, Lost Boys and Phone Booth are fantastic films. This is not so fantastic. Pretty boring and uneventful.

I then decided to re-watch Hack-O-Lantern via Joe Bob Briggs' Last Drive In.

I saw the movie before Red Letter Media had it on but I couldn't get into it at the time. Seeing the gang having a melt down while explaining the movie was epic "BUT IT AINT NO DEMON!" The guy who runs Massacre Video owes everything to RLM because I think he said the company was on it's last legs for a while until the RLM video happened.

He really believes that people "get" the message of Black Devil Doll From Hell which is bizarre that no one had a little aside with him and explained "Okay, people just want to laugh at a puppet raping a woman." A couple of articles, although few and far between, have popped up defending the moralistic intrigue of Black Devil Doll From Hell.

The more I think on it the more I like the idea of the H1 kids as a roving band of vigilantes. They should have just kept it to only them and not bring the entire town along for the ride. A sub plot of Michael slowly stalking them through Haddonfield and eventually back to the Myers house.

I watched Spiral from the book of saw. I could leave it at that, but fuck.

A few things bothered me, a lot.
There's a line in this movie" John Kramer never targeted cops. " what the fuck were 2 3 and 4 then?
I was excited to see Samuel L Jackson in it, and you know what? He has 10 minutes of fucking screen time.
All the traps sucked. "Rip your fingers off or get electrocuted. Rip your tongue off or get hit by a train. "
The best trap was literally the equivalent of an alcoholic father. It's beer bottles being chucked at a high velocity.
The ending was actually just fucking boring.
so Chris Rock is given a chance to save his father, Samuel Jackson. It's false. Not true. No matter what this trap kills, Chris Rock screams and the killer leaves.
Also how many times are we gonna reboot but not really reboot this franchise?

Yesterday I watched the Slumber Party Massacre remake.

It's not that good, but what do you expect?

I figured as much. It was trending on Twitter for a moment and the usual suspects praised it.

I'm going to guess there's no tits on display. The original Slumber Party Massacre is no sacred cow but it has enough of a cult following. Enough of one to justify a toy at least.

It's an alright little slasher with a fun gimmick.

I'm sorry, rate me with autism and all because I'm drunk, but I have to say, Re-Animator is the greatest film of all time. Perfect in every way.

Scream and Saw both got away with it because the killers weren't tied to particular people. Scream was a subversion of horror and the killer wasn't tied to just the ones in the first movie as anyone can just don the costume and go around killing people. Saw on the other hand was more focused on the traps which were what got people interested, and it helped Tobin Bell still appeared in the other movies except for Spiral.

I'm going to quote myself but the movie was originally going to be a prequel until Chris Rock decided he wanted to use Saw as a jumping point for being a serious actor and thought people liked the Saw movies for the fucking police investigations. Literally this entire movie happened because Chris Rock met one of the producers at a wedding.

Sorry to necro this thread but Dogfucker goes through the behind the scenes of Spiral that was released with it, and it's really worse.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=aomgMrHf3bk
This movie is much worse with that in mind since originally there was going to be a prequel script with an earlier game of John Kramer's, but they changed the entire thing because Chris Rock met someone involved at the wedding and pitched a saw movie. That led to this abomination being created because Chris wanted to make a Saw movie and the producers thought it would make easy money.

There were also conflicting views of the film behind the scenes and apparently Chris Rock thinks the Saw movies were more about the police investigation despite the fact people wanted to see the Traps and kills.

I watched it on SYFY , so if there was any tits, they were edited out. I'm pretty sure there aren't. There is a fair amount of guys shirtless though. Dat female gaze.

Spoilers for plot---The girls are revealed to have been intentionally trying to lure Russ Thorn out so they can kill him, because the main girl's mom was a survivor from one of his massacres in 1993. They kill Russ a little more than halfway through, and then some other mysterious figure starts trying to kill them. It's revealed to be Russ Thorn's mom.
