Frankie Freako (2024): I hated this one. It's one of those movies deliberately made to be bad and every single joke fails, no one is likeable and it's just a waste of time. Even if you liked Psycho Goreman (made by the same director) I'm going to make a bet that you will be disappointed. I would only recommend this for the depraved stalker fans of Rich Evans.
Yeah, trying to watch this right now about 40 minutes in and ive just completely lost interest at this point.

I think this Director might one day make a good movie but this sucks, Psycho Goreman sucked. Both had potential but director needs to get over himself and get out of his own way.

Oh and while we’re talking about decent but overrated slashers, In A Violent Nature would have been much better if it had stuck with its format the entire time instead of going with the traditional final girl perspective in the third act. Good enough, but not a classic and is gonna be more or less forgotten in a couple of years.

What’s wrong with The Void, exactly?

lol, do you genuinely think there’s a chance that this guy

will ever get over himself?

I actually haven't seen The Void, I'll have to check it out

It slipped my mind but he also made a Leprechaun movie that I remember being okay, though it would be kind of a backhanded compliment to say that someone's best movie (of their work that I've seen) is a mid leprechaun sequel.

Seeing what he looks like helps explain some of the decisions made in Psycho Goreman and Frankie Freako

I'm a violent nature was just sort of okay. I've seen people hyping up the gore, but it's all kind of okay? Shame that it got absolutely bodies by terrifier in that department. Yeah, it'll be forgotten.

Yeah, yeah, nice dodge. At least you didn't defend a syringe filled with jizz that has a hair in it doesn't count as rape.

And I liked In a Violent Nature aside from the ending but that's the general consensus. A sequel is already in the works.

I’m about a decade late, but I watched Knock Knock and I was severely disappointed. Keanu really fucking hammed it up, and aside from nice Ana de Armas titties, it felt like a waste of time. It could have been great if it had gone a little bit more down the Hard Candy road, or had amped up the level of torture they put him through, but at the end of the day it felt like a wet fart. I don’t know why people thought it was so subversive back in the days.

People were saying it was “ambient horror,” cerebral, bla bla bla but it was just a neat concept that they fucked up by thinking they needed more exposition and dialogue than they needed to with that third act.

I think the problem is that The Void was kind of poised to become a cult classic for a while (it’s not quite that godo) and that’s probably what went up to his head

It’s definitely worth a watch, and it could still become a cult classic I guess, but yeah, everything he’s made is from mid to shit.

Check out the original Death Game from 77. The ending is much better. The chick skip off like the won and then get hit by a van. The end.

I liked the effects and cinematography but the characters were too stupid and the plot too nonsensical. It really aspired to be like The Beyond meets The Thing and it's only partially successful at that. 6 or maybe 7 out of 10 movie for me.

I watched three of the Predator movies (First Two and Prey) since I only really caught glimpses of the first two on TV when I was a teenager, and I really liked them for how they really feel like it embodies the indomitable will of the human spirit.

Also saw the recommendations I got here for The Void and In the Mouth of Madness, thank you to whoever recommended me them as while they aren't perfect movies, they really scratched the itch well for cosmic horror movies.

I didn't care for In a Violent Nature, just thought the idea became bit too dull at feature length and would have been best suited as a episode on a horror anthology show or movie.

Need to bring back horror anthologies. As hit/miss some of the Cabinet of Curiosities were the principle was sound, damn it.

I watched hatchet for the first time last night and it honestly wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Gonna have to watch the others.
Yeah I really expected it to be shit so I stayed away from years but turned out to be enjoyable if forgettable fun (being drunk really helped). As far as I remember, 2 was great, 3 was hit and miss, and 4 was decent.

Hope they manage to make 5 and 6 back to back as they are planning too. Hopefully they can use the Terrifier hype to get more funding

I hate the Hatchet movies. What kills them are the incredibly forced comedy. It's just fucking AIDS. The gore is good and it's fun to see that Kane Hodder still has the magic touch but that and other cameos are all the movies have going for them.

In A Violent Nature is an autistic artist's wet dream of "experimental films". I even like camera fapping and cool continuous shots but there just wasn't enough here for me to justify the movie. To the guy's credit, it was always going to eventually happen. Someone was always going to try this retarded experiment, but that's all it was- a retarded experiment. Throughout the movie I couldn't get away from that fact. It's a mediocre slasher movie shot from a different perspective and that's all it is and it could never rise above the experimental nature.

There's a reason why stories and movies are the way are and all this movie boils down to is an exercise in futility of why that is. There's nothing here for me to latch onto so the gimmick wears completely thin after the opening scene. There's not enough creative camerawork to justify watching this. The gore has been outdone by several other horror movies released this same year. It's not a parody, a parody would be funny but there's no laughable moments here. There just wasn't enough visual storytelling to keep me from getting bored. If you're going to do a "deconstruction", there has to be something to latch onto. There just wasn't anything here entertaining enough to warrant wasting two hours of my life watching it. Other movies have done similar things better and succeeded more in the visual storytelling game than IVN. So, like Barbarian, it baffles me that people like it at all. A sequel is even more mind boggling.

I can actually pick a specific moment where the movie lost me. It's when the girl goes swimming, and he's there across the lake staring at her. I went "Oh sweet, are we going to get an underwater shot and see the action of him terrifying her from below a la Jaws? Underwater shots could be cool and unique. No? He's just going to go in and we're going to be left here to stare at an empty lake for five minutes?.......Fuck this blows."

Maybe I'm just not the target audience anymore and I've lost my patience for nonsense like this. There are better horror movies out there. There are better deconstructions. Someone with more talent and money someday will do this idea again, and they'll have more success with it. As it stands though, IVN just wasn't enough for me.

Yeah the best way to put it is that this is the kind of thing people smoking a blunt would say ‘You know what would be cool? A movie where you follow Jason instead of his victims’ and everyone goes ‘Oh shit yeah that’d be great’

Except, it’s not great.

Though I agree that as part of an anthology thing/single episode/42 minute thing it could have been much tighter and possibly great. Also, without that retarded bait and switch.

Hate to say it, but outlast movie just got announced and I'm really kind of excited. Red barrels has done nothing but bangers. Text stolen from their discord.

I just watched 30 Days of Night (2007). It has been many years since I read the graphic novel, so I was surprised by how many of the story beats I remembered... but then I realized I watched the the movie 2 years ago and, for whatever reason, never finished it. (I was probably up too late.)

The movie was much better than I remembered, and it's better than it deserves to be. I guess it's kind of a cult mini-classic now? A film like this isn't going to win on groundbreaking plot (though it's a clever retelling of Dracula, and there's a lot of meaty character stuff in the script). Movies like this primarily need to nail the special effects and atmosphere. And the movie does: the vampires look great, the acting is often satisfying, and there are some really gruesome kill. The movie is visually impressive all around, especially for the budget.

And the cast is very strong, which is not what you expect from a minor hit genre film like this. How did I ever think Josh Hartnet was a lousy actor? He's easily the bright spot of this cast, and I don't think there are any bad actors in it. Melissa George was excellent as the female lead, too. (And holy shit is she a crazy person, I just checked her Wikipedia.) Shout out to Mark Boone Junior for being a great and reliable "hey, I know that guy" character actor.

It's not all perfect, of course. Some interesting and important stuff is cut from the graphic novel (the one-scene nod to the excised vampire elder plotline was kind of lame), and the pacing is occasionally too fast. We do not get enough time with all the characters... which is inevitable if you're going to take a miniseries and turn it into a movie. (Which maybe shouldn't happen at all... I would have liked to have seen a two- or three-parter HBO miniseries instead.) But it's still a surpringly effective story despite being a familiar one.

I love vampires, what can I say? If you do too, this isn't a bad watch. The plot won't surprise you, but the amount of thought that went into all the elements of the story might.

I'm not sure how they're going to replicate what makes the first game work so well in a film. But I hope they do.

There better be full frontal inbred killer nudity or no ticket sale, tho.

Hey, if there’s one thing Hollywood knows how to do, it’s to adapt from a medium like video games and transform them into movies that gives the fans exactly what they want and not cash grabs based on IP recognitions and memberberries that fool retards into thinking “this time it’s gonna be different”
