The run back is relatively ok. It’s like a minute and I usually make it with full masks.

Disabling heal and having bullshit unavoidable damage attacks with barely any telegraphing is awful. Massive floaty body that keeps floating in the way is awful, and despite this the hitbox to actually hit him with the nail feels tiny like it’s barely possible to attack and not get bodied so I rely on iframes from pogos and clawline. Doubled up attacks that block the exit route to dodge lmao2masks damage is awful.

I tried the stay in the water cheese but the chip damage kept coming. Had much better progress staying in the air and pogoing. I already spent all my pocket shells on tools to no avail. I’ll crack open some bundles and try to use poison cogflies and hope I can keep dodging the chip damage next.
There is an item in the Putrefied Ducts that helps with the maggots, the best strategy I've found is to use the Wanderer crest and let yourself be eaten, mashing to escape gives you ~80% of a heal.

I suppose, at the very least, it doesn’t contribute to the “game completion” statistic nor is it a particularly prevalent issue (as far as I know), but I do agree in general that when content, of a non-insignificant size, is missable it sucks.
Yeah, all I really care about is just missing the boss fight. Boss fights are one of the biggest things I look forward to in these games. I'll be optimistic and think maybe it'll get addressed at some point. Hell, I know I said I wouldn't immediately, but I can see myself replaying the game at a later time just to get anything I missed out on. I guess if anything it adds to the replayability.

The wreath is what kept me sane on the runbacks. Anyway, poison cogflies and boomerangs while lurking in the water worked out in the end.

i don't play the game that much but i still wanted to contribute to the thread with this:

You know I'm beginning to think maybe I should have stuck with the hunters crest, this is the second time I've died to a boss a dozen or more times using the wanderers crest only to beat them first try upon switching back...

Also, about that gamba guy...

Still stuck with Groal, but it doesn't feel unfair, just hard. Wreath is a requirement for the boss runback.
The Bilewater soundtrack reminds me a lot of The Binding of Issac.

The game is really hard at times, so it really counts that they did not release it until combat was polished up.
I have never been hit once by something unfair, hits connect exactly as I expect them to. The only exceptions have been enemy attacks that I feel should have connected, but didn't, or my attacks that I feel should not have connected, but did.

I'm finding that I'm really like the architects crest for boss for the additional range along with "Fuck it, we spam" with all the (poison) tools.

Some bosses are incredibly easy depending on what crest you use. For the faster fights you need to use wanderer because otherwise you're gonna get bodied and be unable to pogo correctly (Karmelita 3rd phase being the main example). Also just got the Shaman crest, it's interesting and I like both it's normal and charged attacks, but I'm not sure how well it'd fare in an actual fight because of its lack of tool slots. And there's also the fact that it wants you to use silk skills while also not giving you increased silk generation

I don't get people saying Lost Lace is hard.
Are they saying she's hard or are they saying she's annoying? because she's the only boss with a dumb fucking phase transition, let alone one long enough that you could go get a beer if you didn't need to jump twice. The actual fight is really fun up until that point.

People really sleep on the Hunter crest. The upgrades let you do extra damage as you build focus. It takes at least six swings without getting hit, but you need to do that anyway with how hard the bosses hit. The pogo takes getting used to, but it's also useful to get behind enemies even if your angle isn't right. I got Lace down to a rhythm where I deliberately triggered her parry and then swooped behind her for free hits (if she did a ground counter).

Wanderer is good for nuke damage for sure, especially with its random crits. But Hunter is certainly viable in the late game fights, it just takes some getting used to.

I really don't want to make a delivery all the way to Fleatopia. It's not that I can't do it, but rather I've done enough for those fuzzy niggers already.
I've been going back today and doing the last bit of content I've missed, and I just realized the last Materium entry I'm missing is the liquid lacquer. I've tried it several times and always fuck up right at the end, so hopefully today is the day...

Pro tip for anyone who didn't know: Silk Soar only damage courier items when you make contact with the ceiling. Cancel it right before then and you won't damage the goods.

Sit at benches and save scum by exiting the game without saving whenever the lacquer breaks. You'll be back at the most recent bench with your lacquer.

Trying to get the Twisted Child ending makes me realize how much healing I used as a clutch for boss fights.

Stay in the water and do hit and run tactics. I know it sounds stupid but only two attacks will hit you in the water diving in and out and poison balls.

Just got to the core, Im realizing my biggest issue so far is the run up to the bosses rather than the bosses themselves, same as dark souls 1 (running for a literal 2 min straight just to attempt Gwyn was so retarded). But i 95% beat blasphemous so its doable...just annoying.

I've always had a slower playstyle so ive been using the reaper crest because of the extra reach and the added silk has been pretty great, though ive been leaning more on the wanderer recently

Finally got to a decent run, 90% done, trying to get the final pale oil now.
Could try beating Seth's score now, so I only need to talk to him later for the memento...

I believe this will end up being an Elden Ring type situation. I remember when Elden Ring came out and a lot of people were complaining about the game being too hard, the bosses having endless combos, et cetera; because they were familiar with Dark Souls 3 or Bloodborne, which had different combat systems. Once people truly learned the new game mechanics in Elden Ring, most of the complaints stopped, and I suspect it will be the same here: Yes, enemies deal more damage and it feels harder but maybe it's because we're coming from Hollow Knight, which had less of an emphasis on mobility and speed. When we truly understand all of which Hornet is capable of, I think the "it's too hard and unfair!" narrative will stop.
Congrats on being right
