Came here to pretty much say I'm the opposite, the last week or two I've seen nothing but shit about this new game. Makes me not want to touch the game, ever. Rate me MATI if you want.
It is normal to feel rejection toward something that is overly promoted to you, regardless of its quality, either because of anticonformism or disinterest turned into spite.
You are not really that unique nor smart in saying "I'm gonna hate it because eveeyone loves it".

I like the detail of the first salesman selling you the money magnet made out of a blue mineral, and when you find platforms rhat breaks and regenerates, it shows you how they work via an ore of the same blue mineral on the center.

I adore the vibes (as the kids say) of the Blasphemous games, I don't think I have ever played anything quite so Catholic before or since.

The other major change I have noticed is that damage is no longer flat. It's not just a 1 HP reduction any more, some enemies (maybe attacks?) hit harder than others. A very small but very interesting change.
Some attacks hit for at least two masks in the first game too. Radiance, the Hollow Knight, and the dream version of the first boss come to mind.

So I've gotten to and done part of Greymoore, so far the game really is just more Hollow Knight (which given it's a fantastic metroidvania is a actually a good thing) once you get used to some of the movement and combat differences from the first game like not having a direct down attack, although I'm hoping you can get something to give the diagonal attack a bit more range.
Holy fuck the damn bird enemies are annoying before you grab the AoE skill.

True but this happens far more often and near the beginning of the game, before the first major boss (gives you a thropy in defeat), I managed to find 3 instances of double damage:

- Falling into lava
- Large skullheads
- A hidden enemy that was in the xbox trailer.

Everyone in my social circle praises this shit, even though the character design sucks. Insects are pretty visually interesting, but the artists just decided to make them boring basic shapes without texture and just the occasional horn or hole here and there.

Is the game worth getting? I have heard very good things about both of them, but I find it difficult for myself to enjoy Metroidvanias

Definitely a game you would only like if you want to like it. If you go into it assuming it's bad you'll never like it.
If you don't want to like it, it's not good enough to change your mind.
If you haven't made up your mind, it'll probably win you over.
If you want to like it, you will certainly not be disappointed.

Try Hollow knight first, Russian style if you want (These Aussies made 12 million dollars today). From my experience so far your enjoyment of both games is pretty much 1:1.

Also,
I'm going to dub this the world's first bells-type game.
[Insert islamic meme about bells being satanic]There is also no minimum jump height, unlike in the original. Which means you can spam tiny jumps as fast as you possibly can, very nice to do after winning a fight.

Got a few more hours in after work, the game is a delight to far. Movement feels so good, the obviously polished the shit out of it. Backflip diagonal pogo's are kind of a bitch but I'm sure I will get better.

I only have one major gripe so far and that is the key/controller bind for tools. Personally I have never been a fan of Bumper + Directional controls, seems like they don't always register and sometimes it fires a needle attack and drains Silk that I would have preferred to keep for healing. Would have been nice to have the option to map those to the D-pad or something.

Those bounce shrooms are so unreliable when trying to go up with them. Hope they get fixed, because half the time you'll need to hit all of them to go up and the other half it'll decide to bounce you to one higher than you should be able to get to and you can skip a little. Really agonizing for no reason.

Really not liking the start of this game. Sit there and press a button to gamble to continue or wait hours until you're allowed to continue? Really cool, Team Cherry.

Edit: Got past that part.
I bought the game specifically for this and I can't find the gambling, what the hell

I gotta say, I really dislike the new pogo and how it is implemented in platforming. I feel like it should have been on its own dedicated button instead of down+attack. Due to the nature of it they require you to use the momentum of it but to reach places but due to it being diagonal and also the need to be pressing down on the stick means you are constantly needing to be flicking the stick all over the place. Half the time it registers a normal attack instead of the pogo as well if you hold down forward instead of just down it feels like.

By far my least liked part of the game so far. It also feels way too short and pretty bad compared to down attack in Hollow Knight. Maybe there's an upgrade to it later, but it's pretty infuriating to use right now.

You piece of fuck where is my gamba

Bounce on the red pepper looking things and tally how many times you get launched where you actually want to go. There's your new gambling
Oh I see.
The trailer shows you grabbing those with silk if I remember correctly. You're not supposed to be able to go up those yet I think.

There're jump puzzle that require you to bounce off them (unless you have later movement upgrades). They work fine laterally, but not vertically.

I like the idea of it and in combat it is very stylish but in platforming it sucks so far. It feels like Bash in the Ori games if they didn't slow down the game while you aim and to activate it you needed to be at a precise angle. Once I lost like 300 rosaries because it kept registering a regular attack I realized I was gonna not enjoy it as much as the HK pogo. I really hope there is an upgrade for it or they don't make it a large portion of the platforming. Because if they expect something like White Palace with this they can fuck off.

I think I'd just turn on cheats by that point. It's the only bad part of the movement, but it's really bad. Also, you can dash straight down, but I don't think you can bounce with it.
