I haven't been following this. Why are people talking about the price tag? It looks like a cheap indie game. Did the first game attracted a cultish fandom that hyped themselves into thinking it was on the same level as AAA $60 game?

After playing for few hours:

Holy shit it's a musical with how so many characters fucking sing. Really ruins any kind of oppression the atmosphere could have had. It doesn't help that Hornet also has her endless grunts. Plot also feels really arbitrary. We could literally step away and go to a different place.

Also now you only have 3 equipment slots, with the compass needing one of them.... And it starts with the other two lock.....

So far feels by the numbers.

Seeing as publishers today have gone beyond the turbo-jew threshold, devs that act "fairly" get an overwhelming amount of praise, just because it's a rare occurrence.

The AAA games we have now that are currently aiming for $60, or above, are.....Ghost of Woke, Dark Souls F, Call of Duty? Of course silksong is of a higher quality than all of them combined.

I would still put Blasphemous slightly above it in terms of atmosphere, but Hollow Knight is much better in gameplay.
Both Blasphemous games are amazing and on the level of Hollow Knight. Even the Blasphemous ripoff The Last Faith is very good.

Movement is about the same speed, maybe a touch faster. Jumping has a higher arc I think. Biggest change is that there is now a ledge grab, really does change a lot.

This is what convinced them to make it a full game. They started developing it as a dlc where you play the game over again as Hornet but her size and movement broke everything so they just thought "fuck it, we're making a full blown sequel.

I hope everyone involved with the game gets points and becomes fantastically rich off of it. They genuinely deserve it. $20 for a game of this size and polish is nuts. Both games would be worth a full modern $70 price tag and I'd have no qualms paying it.

You can turn off Her voice

I adore the vibes (as the kids say) of the Blasphemous games, I don't think I have ever played anything quite so Catholic before or since.

The other major change I have noticed is that damage is no longer flat. It's not just a 1 HP reduction any more, some enemies (maybe attacks?) hit harder than others. A very small but very interesting change.

What's the woke score of the game?
There's dialogue referring to someone as a "they". Also, the map seller

Is a vaguely inspired African stand-in female bug who seems to fight by throwing golden rings. Despite being a huntress, she's cultured enough to draw maps, so not sure if she counts as the "magical negro " trope.
So not too woke so far. No gay bugs posing for a painting that I know of.

Random musing: it doesn't seem to be possible to crouch (her dad taught her to never kneel I guess), which makes Hornet a surprisingly big target (especially her head), watch out!

Hollow knight's peak of woke really was the gray mourner and her dead mantis gf.
Not really gonna call that duo you're referring of as faggots, the game uses slightly antiquated language, so "happy couple" can be interpreted just as easily as a duo of people, there's nothing in the game that ever hints of them being in a romantic relationship.

Hornet also heals the entire bar instead of one at a time so you need to be more careful when you heal.

I don't think it's quite the full bar, looks to be three ticks of health at a time (at least at the start), but you are right, it definitely adds another element to it.
Silk (or soul) generation seems a little slower than in 1, but not by much.

Edit: Also tracked side missions, that's neat!

So I played for about an hour so far. The game looks excellent. I like that you heal 3 masks instead of one when healing, and Hornet controls wonderfully. The singing doesn't really bother me that much since the entire point of the land you're in is that it's supposed to be a religious pilgrimage site.

If you ever go to Jerusalem or any other popular pilgrimage site IRL, it's really not uncommon to see people doing weird prayers or singing. I remember when I went to Israel back in 2015, we saw a group of Nigerian Christians doing the Cross Walk Christ did while singing Amazing Grace.

I came here to say that I have never played Hollow Knight (or any metroidvania for that matter),
But now that I see what kind of impact the sequel has on the gaming community, literally 30 minutes after it released.
I might actually check those games out.
Came here to pretty much say I'm the opposite, the last week or two I've seen nothing but shit about this new game. Makes me not want to touch the game, ever. Rate me MATI if you want.

They're not locked, there's different equipment type slots.

I like the signing so far, doesn't bother me and draws me towards new NPC's. Reminds me of how you could hear Cornifer scratching away at his maps when you were exploring the first game.
