The robot that quickly thumbed its way across Canada last summer is finding on its latest travels in the United States slow going — only two confirmed rides since it stuck its rubber thumb out in Salem, Mass., on July 17.
Yes, it seems hitchBOT has something in common with fellow hitchhikers: it’s at the mercy of whoever picks it up. These early days of its cross-continent trip — its ultimate destination is San Francisco — have seen it stuck on the scenic route.
A digital map on the hitchBOT website shows it went northeast from Salem toward Gloucester, Mass., then far out into the Atlantic.
