Well I guess multimedia is the best place to sperg.

Superpowered traps that save the world by jerking it.
Close.
A twelve year old girl with reality warping powers and minimal social skills lives in a town where supernatural crap like this is the norm. 150 million years ago, a meteor hit and left a crater that was 11 miles in diameter. Said crater works like the zone in Roadside Picnic and it's where her town is. Together with her new muggle best friend, the girl has to deal with Aztec gods, unicorns, interdimensional creatures, and school board engineered chicken pox strains.

It's interesting how the badly executed trailer has buried the series. It's actually impossible to get a feel for the show from it, Personally I'd have gone with a teaser trailer followed on with a proper trailer. Then brought this one in with some extra scenes from the new show. This provides some crunch to what they're saying

The show might even be good but that's irrelivant if they poison the well here.

I'm not that familiar with anime culture but I'm unsure why they're even doing this. If their entire thing is that they're an anime streaming platform their primary interest should be in refinment and improvement of their platform. This just seems like a potential black hole of money.

Why does your on-the-spot concept sound better than a professional trailer made for a broader audience? How badly did they fuck this up? How could mess up such a simple concept? Just sell the show!

Diversity and progressivism seems to be the main selling point for the show, rather than the show itself.
They had a Q&A and the main talking points were lesbian witches, tackling bullying, and prioritizing race and sexual identity for voice actors

Oh, yeah. I heard they were going to have a Q/A? Does anyone have a link to it or some summary of it?

There isn't any recording of it right now, attendees were forbidden from recording, but someone on twitter gave brief recaps of all the talking points:
https://twitter.com/search?f=tweets&vertical=default&q=#highguardianspice&src=tyah
I'm not sure if CR plans on uploading a recording

But it doesn't seem like anyone sperged out and tried venting their anime rage during the Q&A

Throw in some ponies and it might work.

It's not exactly on the spot. I've been mulling over it for a while. And I'm too poor to go to a good school to help make it happen.

Unicorns are better.

Yo. I'm reading some of the info for the Q/A and there are some gems in here.

Some choice quotes about the characters and setting include:

-"Thyme is an immigrant from another country being forced to go to High Guardian Academy by her mom. Thyme is very much like if Daria cast a spell."

Gotta shove in that immigration politics somewhere~

-"Rosemary and Sage stay with Aloe and Anise, lesbian witches who live in Lyngarth. “Botanical nerds are going to have a field day!”

Honestly if this was just about Lesbian witches living their lives in a fantasy world it would be far more interesting than what we got.

-"Amaryllis from #highguardianspice is a characterization of teenage bullying, the character lines are wonderful as the writers get the burrow into the brains of bullies, or times that they were bullies."

So basically everyone will be a strawman until saved by the pure main character who is always liked and never wrong

-"None of the characters are depicted in a mean spirited fashion but as away of empathizing each character and what they represent."

So no character can act mean-spirited because having characters that aren't the same mindset as you is a terrible thing now.

-"Some of the animation and in-between teams for #highguardianspice involve a studio that works in Miyazaki films."

If this is true, I'm so disappointed. Miyazaki films don't deserve to be compared to crap. It has to be some sort of nepotism going on here.

-"#highguardianspice takes a lot of influence from Dungeons and Dragons, in fact by the end of this the @ellation office will know how to play D&D!"

Because when I think of anime, I think of D&D!

-"When searching for voice actors the team searched for people of color, transgenders, and more people that really fit into the roles of some of the cast of characters in the show. Trying to bring people who don’t normally have a voice."

Okay, I don't have a problem with them searching for people they want to work with, but I still don't understand how these "troons" are upset about representation when they are literally less than 2% of the population in the U.S.

Overall. This is going to be a dumpster fire. Not a funny meme like Neo Yokio, but an actual dumpster fire. It's a miracle if the show turns out to be okay.

It just sounds unwatchable to me.

EDIT: This is the Buddy Bears of anime! There, I said it!

It gets better once again:

One person live tweeted the event, suggesting turnout was exactly as usual for this kind of crap.

They went out of their way to find minorities and trans people to VA shit, so talent obviously wasn't their aim but more self congratulatory back patting.

Despite being in professional production for 12 months and making great fanfare of their announcement they had no footage to show and simply threw up more unfinished art and character sheets Raye probably did himself and a miniscule bit of character animation that looks "super smooth" according to some pleb who did a few tweets. Meaning its likely going to be 90% computers doing the inbetweens.

The one image that's appeared (of nearly none) is this one that has amused me:

They couldn't even fill the whole front fucking row. :story:

What kills me about this is not just the fact they're appealing to people who have been statistically proven to NOT buy their crap. It doesn't even look that good. For example that blonde chick in the projector, Parsley. Any GOOD character designer would know that Parsley is green and noticeable to eye so why not give the character a green theme? With a character named "Spice" you can't do much in terms of designs, but with a character literally names after colored spices I expected better (even though I shouldn't) designs. People on Pinterest of all places can make better creative-themed designs than this show.

They don't have any animation to show after a year? What the hell were they doing? I've seen fan animations done in less than a couple of months and weeks that have something to show for it. These are supposed to be professionals, mind you. And they can't even sell their concept at a panel.

They had their chance to show something at this panel, but instead, they just showed concept art and serene backgrounds? Show some sort of animation. Anything would be better than nothing. It doesn't matter how much they tell us it's good, they won't show us anything so I refuse to believe there is anything worth watching.

How many episodes are they planning on releasing next year? Animation takes months and months. If they're planning on releasing a full season all at once, wouldn't they need to have a couple of episodes in the can already? But it almost seems as though they're still in the planning stages? At this rate how can they possibly finish in time?

Because then they'd have ultra distinct colour palettes and then it'd be way too fucking much like RWBY. Mostly because the herbs (not spices) that are used have decent colours but would likely create a too even colour palette for their hairstyles. But this would make playing with a colour wheel pretty neat:

Rosemary has a nice, light blue flower when it blooms. So Red-orange clothing compliments it.

Parsley has a violet flower. So Green it is.

Thyme a white flower if the common type, so really pick a colour, any colour.

Sage a deep purple. So, yellowy-orange clothing.

End result is you'd have Parsley and Sage from the same clan/tribe/spicefields/whatever and tie them together. Hell, make them sisters or best friends or lovers or anything but they'd still have an ultra-distinct colouring scheme and look to either of them. Because if you'd going to pull this sort of obvious shit either go all the way with the theme or fuck off.

EDIT: Didn't even realise it with this you also make Thyme as an Immigants super fucking obvious to the point people will comment because while everyone else has a blueish tint to their hair she's whiter than white. You could go all fucking out and rip off Storm, because we know white hair and black skin works.

O
Holy raviolis. They are not even hiding it. I can't wait for this show to come up. It's gonna be a beautiful clusterfuck of everything wrong with Western Animation in one show. I give it one season before being ripped to shreds by every single reviewer on Youtube. But is better this way tho: can you imagine a toxic fandom of this shit ten times more cancerous than Voltron and SU combined?

I'm still fucking floored that they went with giving every character spice-themed names, plus a flower-themed name based off the belladonna flower. Because I guess someone saw Belladonna of Sadness in their local art theater and because it involved a witch they just had to use it in their witch-themed safe space show.

I don't mind saccharine shows, I like girly stuff quite a bit, but this tidbit alone just makes me want to puke and take insulin.

Also the pink-haired girl makes me think she's based off the design of Candy from Candy Candy, but they fucked it up because no one seems to understand character design.

It's always a red flag for me when a show makes a trailer and doesn't show any footage of your show when pitching it to your audience, your not The Dark Crystal Age of Resistance here, there's no way you don't have any storyboards to show us or rough animation ala Disney sneak peaks from old VHS tapes. Why haven't they shown us anything past concept art?
