So, now there's just an entire race of blue skinned creatures who specifically have their head flesh burned off? I thought Skeletor was a case of magic, not that he was actually born that way.

Skeletor’s origin was actually rewritten a few times. As of the latest “canon” (which is a nebulous concept at best in the He-Man IP), Skeletor is Adam’s half-uncle (!) who is possessed by a demon that at one point hallucinated he was from a world of skull-headed people.

I can understand why the original writers changed his origin because the skull-headed people origin sounds like a Robot Chicken skit.

The new trailer is… controversial. I can see why. The designs are unrecognizable, the art style is generic Fortnite clone…

At least they remembered Keldor is Adam’s uncle?

That looks ugly as shit, my god. At least the Kevin Smith show is pretty looking.

Sucks that Universal has the rights to the Masters of the Universe IP. They'll never give it up and we'll continue to see garbage like these shows exist.

At least Battlecat is worth a pickup to kitbash.

Of course the libtard with 50 following of his bland podcast is calling this show "groundbreaking" and sucking on Kevin's fat cock. Water is fucking wet.

And scrolling down the comments, if it has a negative reaction, expect the person or his friends to dogpile like their life depends on it :story:

Dodging the question there but okay.
Pedo mustache and sideburns. Yeah his opinion doesn't matter.

Doesn't look anything like Filmation's He-Man, but at least He-Man is the focus this time and it looks like it took the Fortnite-esque aesthetic to attract the target demographic. Let's see if this will work.

"And Eternia looks like some cyberpunk wasteland now". That.... that actually sounds cool, though?

I actually liked the trailer. I haven't played fortnite. I'm old. It mostly just seems really fun. My first thought was "This really seems like Big Hero 6", which Clownfish calls out pretty quickly. Since this is targeted at kids, I think its working as intended and they're just using "He-Man" for name recognition; they could have used the same characters and called them something else and there'd be no controversy.

At least for me it beats the hell out of Revelation, simply because it is bright and shiny and silly. Even with the forced diversity they still do depict an ideal male as having muscles which is a nice break from TroonTeela despite this not being a remotely faithful adaption.

Poor Teela, first Kevin Smith's reboot turned her into an angry looking lesbian and now this one turns her into a black woman. All within the span of a month or so.

That’s the thing though, what kid gives a fuck about he-man? How would this show be ANY DIFFERENT if it was its own thing instead of wearing the skin of an established property?

I wouldn’t mind having new franchises, preferably stuff that doesn’t have a partisan message shoved in, promotes creepy fetishes, or romanticizes abuse.

You can probably imagine why I’m equally leery of new franchises.

The trailer to the new show doesn't look like my cup of tea, but at least it isn't lying to me.

MOTU: Revalations was a gigantic lie. We were sold a bill of goods and they gave us a plate full of crap instead.

This looks like a dumb show intended for children with unnecssary changes from the source material to get woke points like Teela being black (so this makes how many redheaded characters that have been black-ified?) and Ram Man being gender swapped (I honestly thought Ram Ma'am was a joke, but its actually the name of the character). And then some changes just seem strange, like Orko being a robot.

It looks dumb, but hey, at least it looks like the show is about He-Man and Skeletor's rivalry. I'll give it that. I'll be honest, I've never been a huge fan of the whole "Uncle Keldor" angle with Skeletor's character, but at least they are pulling from the lore to do something.

With me though, Netflix has kind of squandered my good will and I probably won't be watching it. At this point, I find myself looking for stuff that isn't based on an already established movie or TV show. Lets get some new stuff.

It also ignores that redheads are a tiny minority and have historically been discriminated against in cultures across Eurasia and North Africa (still may be, I haven’t checked).

Irish people (who have one of the highest concentrations of redheads for some reason) were not originally considered white and subjected to a lot of racism. Scientific racism art depicted them as hideous ape-like monsters.

You know how some crazy people used to say black skin was the mark of Cain? Red hair used to be considered the mark of Set, Judas, and foreigners. It seems pretty weird to discriminate by hair color, but it’s no stranger than discriminating by skin color.

Then again, the same agenda erasing redheads also thinks Asians (East Asians and Indians) are white-adjacent when it’s convenient to discriminate against them.

Also, there’s a history of intermarriage between the African and Irish diasporas. Approximately 38% of African-Americans are of Irish descent.

There are redheads of color, too. You can hit two birds with one stone by depicting a character with black skin and red hair.

Teela being black
She’s also platinum blond, like Storm from the X-Men. That’s apparently a trope in art design now.

Dark-skinned blondes are oddly popular in anime and connected media. Of course, usually the tone is more “deep tan” rather than black, and they’re likely not of negroid physiognomy.

Eh, I've met a couple of blond black guys in real life. Not sure if they dyed their hair or not, though.

It was probably dyed, blacks usually don’t have straight and light hair, though Abbos occasionally do for some reason. That was the other part: most dark-skinned blondes have straight hair, so even more indication that they are likely supposed to be Eurasian.

To be fair, East Asians (or at least the Japanese) have been considered "white-adjacent" in various quarters, off and on, for rather a long time. As for East Indians, they're in an interesting class of their own, as they fell into a nebulous category of "Other" in the U.S. Census (thanks to 1923's U.S. v. Bhagat Singh Thind, where the Supreme Court ruled that Thind, a self-described “high caste Hindu, of full Indian blood” was Caucasian by virtue of his Aryan ancestors but not White, as a result of his Dravidian ancestry), which apparently lasted until about 1970, when they were briefly classified as "White" until the census of 1980, when an "Asian Indian" category was created in response to political pressure from the Indian diaspora.

Also, there’s a history of intermarriage between the African and Irish diasporas. Approximately 38% of African-Americans are of Irish descent.
There's a history of intermarriage between the Irish diaspora and just about everyone in their vicinity. Irish ancestry is the second-most common genetic strain amongst Americans as a whole.

Mostly as a result of rufous albinism, if I recall correctly.

Just watched the first 4 episodes or first story arc of the CGI He-Man reboot. It's surprisingly good. There are a lot of changes to the format, but overall it feels respectful of the source material and includes plenty of callbacks. At least as much as the 2011 Thundercats or the various Transformers cartoons.

Also, Teela has finally become the Sorceress. Took long enough! On the downside, she and Eldress fell smack dab into the Magical Minority trope. /sarcasm

Oh yeah I just watched the whole season it's pretty good. The action is neato and the characters are set up and well defined with none of them being overtly overbearing. The show like revelations also ends on a cliffhanger but overall its a genuinely fun time.

And the reimagined villain designs are neato too. (spoilers!)

I wasn't going to watch the CGI show, but I typically trust the farms and you guys have peaked my interest.

Maybe I'll give it a look.

I am definitely not watching Part 2 of Revelations. Fuck that noise.
