I watched Hazbin S2 last night on my second monitor while gaming and I'm gonna be honest, I think Helluva Boss is cringe, I thought Hazbin S1 had the outline of a decent plot that was executed poorly with not a single song I enjoyed despite enjoying musicals but this 2nd season I actually really liked. Does anybody feel the same or should I visit the doctor for brain damage? Imo, Vox hard-carried the entire show by being a really good villain so I don't expect a 3rd season to be this good again but I think pretty much everyone just had better character writing this season and I'm not sure what exactly changed.
I think it comes down to the fact that Hazbin's genre is not predominantly comedy even with heavy comedic elements so there's a bit more sincerity even in the cringe moments

Helluva Boss is primarily a comedy so it makes the characters be seen as more unlikeable with drama because you can't help but take comedic scenes seriously if similar events are later (i.e. IMP killing random people as a joke but then having dramatic moments where they feel they need to draw the line)

Viv has said in the past that S3 is her favorite part of the story and that something that happens was so compelling it got the entire series green lit by A24/Amazon, so I'm cautiously optimistic that it is actually decent and that S2 truly was meant to be a filler season.

But its Viv writing so who knows.

With this being confirmed to be a 5 season show
Not confirmed. Viv said she plans for 5 seasons but so far only 1-4 are actually contracted to be produced so far.

Did we get told this in the actual show? He killed Henroin?

I think Vox spills that killing his dad is the reason that Angel is in Hell. It wasn't exactly a throwaway line, but it wasn't followed up on in any meaningful way.

I finished season 2 last night.

Still not sure how I feel about it. It wasn't terrible, but for some reason I found all the epic music numbers annoying/a slog this season. Also, both Charlie & Vaggie (especially Vaggie) seemed stupider than compared to how they were written in season 1. I do look forward to finally learning about Lilith when season 3 rolls around (unless the creator will continue to drag out her character's mysterious disappearance...)

I hope this doesn’t happen. I liked how Alastor’s asexuality was contrasted with Vox, who was clearly infatuated with him. Alastor being asexual always struck me as a silly and unnecessary inclusion in season 1, but here it paid off. You got the impression that Vox was truly heartbroken by Alastor’s rejection, and that humanizes him. It makes Alastor’s provocations work - Vox pushes away his friends and “loses his marbles in act 3”. Alastor being above petty human feelings like love or lust makes him far more threatening. I don’t wanna see that ruined by shoehorning in some stuff about Alastor loving Charlie romantically.

I would accept Alastor caring for Charlie as a friend, but only because I feel that has set-up and pay-off. While Alastor is whining about his captivity at the end of season 1, he says that “Alastor Altruist [dying] for his friends” is an absurdity. Of course, we know Sir Pentious did just that - died for his friends and was freed from Hell’s bondage. This, to me at least, suggested that Alastor played himself - gave up an opportunity for true freedom by running away to save his own life. Now that Alastor is free this isn’t very probable, but my point is that Alastor befriending Charlie is infinitely more believable than loving her.

...wait, I thought Alastor was gay? Was he not Vox's ex? Not a tumblr yaoi shipper; I just thought Vox's entire crusade against Alastor was due to them previously being together, and Vox being offended when Alastor rejected Vox's "partnership" proposal at the hell diner? Hence, why Vox forced Alastor to watch him hooking up with Valentine. The partner rejection scene played out like a marriage proposal rejection scene/Vox appeared genuinely sad at first

Also, wasn't it shown in the backstory musical number that Alastor flirted with a male victim? (it looked like they ran off to kiss in the dark, but Alastor stabbed the guy).

The writing was definitely improved by not centering itself on Charlie this season. The Vees carried the show by poking actual holes in her character and just being fun to watch. Personally, I was a big fan of Lute being a schizo and the other (not Angel) characters at the hotel actually got a lot to do.

I think it's been stated elsewhere (as so much of this show seems to be; half the writing problems probably stem from expecting the audience to have been autistically following all the drip-drip-drip of character and worldbuilding revelations that, if you don't know who Vivzie Pop is, you probably didn't even know existed) (I am one of those people) -- that Alastor is asexual, which would mean Vox's attraction is one-sided and unrequited.

It also makes Alastor not really a cuck, and Vox's attempt to make him look like one nothing but an expression of his own monstrous ego. Fuck every twink in Hell, Vox; Alastor is not going to give a shit one way or the other.

This isn't even a strictly Hazbin problem with Viv, it's extremely prevalent in Helluva as well, to use one example there's a scene where Satan says he was the ruler of Hell "before the angel fell", and Viv posted that Satan was lying because nobody calls him out on the lie and he's not even established as being an untrustworthy source, so obviously everyone thought this was a big reveal about Hell. Goes to show Hazbin's poor worldbuilding isn't the result of runtime.

Thanks for the explanation. I thought I had missed a few critical scenes while folding laundry or something. I absolutely hate the trend you mentioned - of show writers leaving out plot relevant information from the script, and expecting viewers to piece together the plot via the creator's Twitter feed. Like, what dumbass thought that it'd be fun television to include plotholes on purpose!? 😵‍💫

I do think Alastor genuinely loves (in a platonic/paternal way) Charlie, though. In the season 1 episode that focused on his rivalry with Lucifer over Charlie's affection, it was played it for laughs/implied he only cared about Charlie to push Lucifer's buttons (and later in season 2 due to it being a part of his binding). However; throughout both seasons Alastor's character has always seemed genuinely concerned about Charlie's well being/seems to get along well with her as a friend.

Personally I still think the common theory that Alastor & Lillith had a previous connection/friendship/Lilith ordered Alastor to look after Charlie before she left Hell (knowing Lucifer is too much of a dope to do so) might come into play. It'd also explain why Lucifer dislikes Alastor so much (beyond just mere jealously) - maybe he blames Alastor for his wife leaving him?

Well apparently you can be homosexual and asexual. Not saying that this is confirmation of what Alastor. It's just a possibilty. Viv's done it; saying she's bisexual and asexual.

Asexuality is such a wide spectrum that I feel like anyone could put that label on them and it would be valid or something.

I'm wondering. Has Vaggie had a single song lyric that doesn't in some way relate to her wanting to bang Charlie?
Even in "When I Think About the Future," her line is just her simping over Charlie. It's like the dyke version of the Bechdel Test.
She's got a few but it doesn't erase the fact that if Charlie didn't exist there'd barely be anything to her character.

Considering how much Viv hates Charlastor and can't stop liking posts on Bluesky that shit on it and its fans, it definitely won't. She's extremely firm in her stance that Alastor has no interest in relationships.

Also small unrelated thing I wanted to point out - we don't know what Alastor's last name is, he was mockingly calling himself an altruist. It seems a lot of people didn't get this.

The fact that they had to sneak in that the Exterminations only began seven years ago (using Katie of all characters) because they flat-out forgot to mention it in the first season is testament to that.

In hindsight it does make more sense than how everyone thought beforehand the exterminations were a thing that have been going on for centuries if not longer, what with how no sinner managed to figure out angelic weaponry can kill an Exorcist (even if it's still stupid that they wouldn't know that), or how just about everyone in Heaven didn't know the exterminations were a thing. When there's a crucial piece of worldbuilding that can easily be explained in an offhand remark, those should definitely all be laid out on the table by the end of the first season, at least in cases like this where every character outside of Heaven in-universe knows the exterminations started 7 years ago right from the start of the series, just throw it into that storybook intro because opening scenes get a pass when it comes to blatant exposition.

I call bullshit on Viv having any sexual interest in women. She clearly only fantasies about twink dudes getting it on. Why specifically twink dudes you ask?
Simple because they're built closer to the female body than more masculine males.
For as we all know Viv secretly wishes to be a gay man. It's all an elaborate conspiracy on Viv's part, to normalize her fetish to the masses.

It's in the show. End of season 1, when Alastor brings Charlie to recruit the cannibals for the big fight, Rosie makes a joke about her being his new fling and then immediately laughs it off saying "I know you're an ace-in-the hole" to clarify that she was kidding. Alastor responds with a confused "huh?" or something, but it's unclear whether he doesn't understand the term, doesn't agree, has never even thought about it, is surprised she noticed, or what.

I swear I'm not a fan, I only know this because I had it on for background noise yesterday while I was making some cool-ass and very heterosexual battle robots in blender.

I vaguely recall that. I thought it was a shout-out to fandom debates, sort of like when Ellen Degeneres was screaming "I'M GAY I'M GAY I'M GAY" in some crowd scene in her sitcom before she officially came out.

It's a wide spectrum because it's the sexuality version of nonbinary where putting in the least effort gives you the biggest minority points. Always remember, "spectrums" in the LGBT sense are only excuses for the crowd to make up contradicting claims and excuse themselves for thinking they're oppressed because they think one or two correlations should automatically qualify the causation. I've seen people scream ace pride because they... prefer having intercourse with someone they have a close, tight bond with... which is... a normal feeling to have... :cringe:
