The most Hasan might gain out of this interview is the few soundbytes he might get out of goading Newsom into talking shit about the other prospective Democratic candidates like Kamala Harris and Pritzker or elected congressional Dems like Chuck Schumer or Hakeem Jeffries, much like he tried to get out of Bernie Sanders.

Gavin Newsome has nothing to gain from talking to Hasan. And I doubt his managers have not informed him about that or the other, more productive, interviews he can have.

But, assuming he does accept a talk, what will happen?

If he agrees on everything Hasan says, he will kill his career like Old Yeller. It would confirm to every normal person in California (and every leftist that is on board with woke but knows which policies will allow them to afford food) that Newsome would rather dance as the state sinks than fix anything. And Hasan might still say to not vote for him in the end.

If he agrees on some things and not to others (the likeliest scenario should he accept), Hasan will have a hissy fit and it will be an absolute embarrassment for everyone involved. Opinions will not change as we basically have a general idea of what these two believe so the talk will lead to some new memes and it will cost both of them influence as other politicians and influencers will avoid them. Nothing too big but they would waste time for nothing.

If he tears Hasan a new asshole, Newsome will gain some support from normal people and leftists that hate Hasan. It will cost him Hasan orbiter and fan support but that will not be a big deal unless you count the terrorists among them that might try something. The rest of California will not change their opinion. The "Blue no matter who" crowd will vote Newsome, so will his actual fans and the rest will vote GOP.

So, why do it? What is it in for him? Hasan is not a pleasant or helpful individual. I understand the mutual destruction hope but that is why Newsome will not accept it. Trump is at his strongest now. Everyone knows that Newsome is the DNC's best hope. I am willing to bet Newsome receives constant emails to not do anything stupid like interviews with controversial figures by the rest of the Dems. Everyone knows Hasan is career suicide. He will be going up against a powerful Republican with a great track record (most likely Vance). He cannot afford the Hasan anchor around his neck.

I think it is good to address what Hasan seeks to gain by being seen as a legitimate political pundit. Simply put, he wants to return to Twitch' good graces. While Clancy is still in his corner, no one else in the higher-ups is.

However, if he platforms Newsome, he will be showing the not-so-far-left Twitch bosses that he can play ball with their preferred candidate.

That is his only viable play. While he is unfairly blamed for Harris' loss, he has done a lot of other things that brought heat towards the Democrats in general and Twitch in particular.
