A theory of mine is that they are so adamant about this issue because support for Palestine has been a large part of the leftist identity for decades. In the US at least, it is one of the main things that makes them different from regular democrats who almost universally support Israel. So, in their minds if you are indifferent to the issue, criticize Palestine, or support Israel even in the most minor of ways they will immediately cast you out and label you as a shitlib or paid off by Israel because they want complete dogmatic support for Palestine to maintain their identity.

It's a similar situation with universal healthcare. Support for it has been one of if not the main domestic issue for the far left for years now (especially since the Bernie movement). So, if they hear about any flaws with universal healthcare systems like long wait times for example, they either completely ignore it or go into overdrive explaining how the problem doesn't exist. Or even worse, if they hear from anyone that lives in a country with universal healthcare talk about their bad experiences with it, they'll descend into multi-paragraph sperg sessions explaining how their experience is essentially wrong because stories like that aren't just criticisms of one of their preferred polices, they undermine a major part of the leftist identity.
