Google, Russian-language or otherwise, is all about them shekels. Amazon does similar shit to get you to buy the product they want you to buy, rather than the one you would have found if their search wasn't rigged.
I have been wishing for years that someone would make an alternative search tool for shopping websites that still use the same index, similarly to how ddg pulls from other search engine indexes, at least according to themselves. might get amazon to finally do their fuckign jobs

Well there are Amazon price trackers. I think they're searchable.

It's worse, but it's not just activist employees monkeying around with specific results. The Internet has become more centralized with less competition, so sites tend more towards curation knowing people won't jump ship. This goes into search and presto, your top 10 results now all say the same thing.
i know a lot of people view wiby as something to use like a hobbyist or if you miss web 1.0 pages but for how well it searches within its own index it reminds me of what i wish search was today

I REALLY REALLY hate the "you might also like/people also searched for" results that appear in youtube searches. It is the ONE place on youtube where video recommendations don't have the "not interested" feature and yet is also the one place where you are most likely to encounter videos with disgusting thumbnails that have absolutely nothing to do with what I was searching for and appear to have been uploaded by trolls for the express purpose of making them appear in searches that have nothing to do with them and the "put a minus sign in front of a word to keep it out of your search trick" doesn't work on them since they technically aren't search results, and I've seen this sick shit pop up when just ONE word in my search was relevant to it - if AI can give a passable look at what Pokemon would look like as an 80s dark fantasy movie, then you'd think that it would also be able to tell that I don’t want to see pictures of insect infestations when looking up Bugs Bunny

There's also all the SEO insanity these days, companies will monkey around with their sites to keep them as far up as possible.

Google Translate may be infested with "woke" now.

possible example:

Japanese Wikipedia on ''woman'' said:
辞書では「女性」の定義は少しずつ差別を無くし、包括的なものに変化している。
Google Translate said:
In dictionaries, the definition of "woman" is gradually becoming less discriminatory and more inclusive.
But what Google Translate translates as "discriminatory" and "inclusive" can be translated as "distinctive" and "comprehensive".

BTW here's how Yandex Translate does it:
The definition of "woman" in the dictionary has gradually changed to a comprehensive one, eliminating discrimination.

Google translate's been the shittier cousin of better services like Deep L for years besides their image translation, which I've only seen paid translators compete on. Doubt it'll be long until you can run your own translator on your own hardware though and just avoid all the bullshit. It'd be an extra plus to not need internet for it like the days of digital dictionary hardware.

Can OpenAI Whisper be used for that, or does that only work if doing STT?

Around two months ago I noticed I couldn’t even use the prefix “site:url(.)com” to avoid seeing irrelevant websites. Now Google intersperses unrelated/vaguely related sites to my search results, so if I’m looking for something on Reddit I’ll also see Quora here and there. It’s infuriating and to me it’s further proof Google’s search engine algorithm is intentionally being tampered with.

I still have muscle memory to type google.com instead of just putting in my search term when doing a search, but thanks to this HIDEOUS SHIT, I remember to ctrl+w and go to bing.

2. bing is better than google now, try it.

The only thing Google still wins at is its maps.
i can't believe you'd shill for bing, i am very disappoint

that being said i actually don't use bing so maybe it is actually better nowadays. thanks for recommending it!
