As someone who's pretty decent enough at games, I found Hades 1 to be a fucking drag to get through.
The first few runs were actually exciting because everything was new. New weapons, new hammers, new gods, new enemies, new rooms, new bosses, etc. However after about run 15 I ran into the brick wall of
META PROGRESSION with my dick out.
Gone was the fun of having new things. The enemies became tired, the new weapons were drip fed way too slow, I couldn't progress the entire overall story except for one line of dialog (if I was lucky enough for the NPC to even fucking show up). It got to the point where I was starting a run, gifting a god I needed to increase my relationship with then immediately dying so I could do it again.
In terms of a roguelike Hades is pretty fucking weak. There's no alt-floors, no alt-bosses, no alt-paths, the room lay outs are limited, weapons are limited, the only cool thing (Daedaleus hammers) are so rare you are lucky to find one before the half way point, there's only one secret boss. Even the most basic bitch no DLC Issac has 5 times the content of Hades.
The Pact of Punishment added a little spice into the variety of gameplay, but again when you only have a base of basic rice, you can't really expect to make a gourmet meal by adding pepper flakes to it. Having beefed up bosses was fun, but the path to get there wasn't worth it, and the rewards are again metered out so slowly that you don't get more rewards for overloading your heat guage (which heavily disincentivized me from even caring).
As for the woke shit in 1 I honestly didn't care about it too much? Namely because it wasn't shoved in your face. Zag and Thanatos, Achiles and his gay lover. That was all fine since it was handled pretty well.
I'm really not that interested in playing 2 especially because it seems they made the combat even slower by making every enemy a damage sponge. Plus I really don't want to get invested in ANOTHER early access bullshit game.
If you're looking for a way more fast paced rogue-like game I would heavily push you to look up OTXO.
As for Supergiant themselves, I loved Bastion. It was the first game I ever played on a PC I personally bought with my own money, so it wasn't a shitty 'family' computer that could barley run a flash game without dying inside. The music, art, and of course the narriator added up to be an amazing game which has stuck with me for years. Transistor was also cool, and while I wasn't as big a fan of the combat I enjoyed it still a good deal. Pyre was the falloff point for me. Pretty art and music can't really make up for a lackluster base game play. Magic sportsball was fucking boring when even on the hardest difficulty and with all of the difficulty modifiers on the AI was fucking retarded and easy to juke.
