Why is Greta Thunberg so triggering? How can a 16-year-old girl in plaits, who has dedicated herself to the not-exactly sinister, authoritarian plot of trying to save the planet from extinction, inspire such incandescent rage?

Last week, she tweeted that she had arrived into New York after her two week transatlantic voyage: “Finally here. Thank you everyone who came to see me off in Plymouth, and everyone who welcomed me in New York! Now I’m going to rest for a few days, and on Friday I’m going to participate in the strike outside the UN”, before promptly giving a press conference in English. Yes, her second language.

Her remarks were immediately greeted with a barrage of jibes about virtue signalling, and snide remarks about the three crew members who will have to fly out to take the yacht home.

This shouldn’t need to be spelled out, but as some people don’t seem to have grasped it yet, we’ll give it a lash: Thunberg’s trip was an act of protest, not a sacred commandment or an instruction manual for the rest of us. Like all acts of protest, it was designed to be symbolic and provocative. For those who missed the point – and oh, how they missed the point – she retweeted someone else’s “friendly reminder” that: “You don’t need to spend two weeks on a boat to do your part to avert our climate emergency. You just need to do everything you can, with everyone you can, to change everything you can.”

Part of the reason she inspires such rage, of course, is blindingly obvious. Climate change is terrifying. The Amazon is burning. So too is the Savannah. Parts of the Arctic are on fire. Sea levels are rising. There are more vicious storms and wildfires and droughts and floods. Denial is easier than confronting the terrifying truth.

Then there’s the fact that we don’t like being made to feel bad about our life choices. That’s human nature. It’s why we sneer at vegans. It’s why we’re suspicious of sober people at parties. And if anything is likely to make you feel bad about your life choices -- as you jet back home after your third Ryanair European minibreak this season – it’ll be the sight of small-boned child subjecting herself to a fortnight being tossed about on the Atlantic, with only a bucket bearing a “Poo Only Please” sign by way of luxury, in order to make a point about climate change.

But that’s not virtue signalling, which anyone can indulge in. As Meghan Markle, Prince Harry, and their-four-private-jets-in-11-days found recently, virtue practising is a lot harder.

Even for someone who spends a lot of time on Twitter, some of the criticism levelled at Thunberg is astonishing. It is, simultaneously, the most vicious and the most fatuous kind of playground bullying. The Australian conservative climate change denier Andrew Bolt called her “deeply disturbed” and “freakishly influential” (the use of “freakish”, we can assume, was not incidental.) The former UKIP funder, Arron Banks, tweeted “Freaking yacht accidents do happen in August” (as above.) Brendan O’Neill of Spiked called her a “millenarian weirdo” (nope, still not incidental) in a piece that referred nastily to her “monotone voice” and “the look of apocalyptic dread in her eyes”.

But who’s the real freak – the activist whose determination has single-handedly started a powerful global movement for change, or the middle-aged man taunting a child with Asperger syndrome from behind the safety of their computer screens?

And that, of course, is the real reason why Greta Thunberg is so triggering. They can’t admit it even to themselves, so they ridicule her instead. But the truth is that they’re afraid of her. The poor dears are terrified of her as an individual, and of what she stands for – youth, determination, change.

She is part of a generation who won’t be cowed. She isn’t about to be shamed into submission by trolls. That’s not actually a look of apocalyptic dread in her eyes. It’s a look that says “you’re not relevant”.

The reason they taunt her with childish insults is because that’s all they’ve got. They’re out of ideas. They can’t dismantle her arguments, because she has science – and David Attenborough – on her side. They can’t win the debate with the persuasive force of their arguments, because these bargain bin cranks trade in jaded cynicism, not youthful passion. They can harangue her with snide tweets and hot take blogposts, but they won’t get a reaction because, frankly, she has bigger worries on her mind.

That’s not to say that we should accept everything Thunberg says without question. She is an idealist who is young enough to see the world in black and white. We need voices like hers. We should listen to what she has to say, without tuning the more moderate voices of dissent out.

Why is Greta Thunberg so triggering? Because of what she represents. In an age when democracy is under assault, she hints at the emergency of new kind of power, a convergence of youth, popular protest and irrefutable science. And for her loudest detractors, she also represents something else: the sight of their impending obsolescence hurtling towards them.

Wait, she's actually 18? What do children even look like in Sweden? She looks like she's 40 years old!
Most Swedish girls downplay their looks because it truly is the Saudi Arabia of feminism but looking too good makes them easy targets for Muslim and African gang rapists. So they look as ugly as possible.

It's actually a shame because these fucking millenarian deathcult retards should've pointed out what China contributes to pollution decades ago. I don't know if this is a desperate cry for attention to get their Indian backers back or not, but I know they already have a human child shield already.
I always love these people because it's a funny conversation every single time.

"WE NEED TO GO GREEN NOW! AMERICA HAS TO STOP EVERYTHING! THE WORLD IS DOOMED UNLESS WE DO SO!"

"What about China? I mean, them and India don't give a shit so even if American went 100% green, your global warming doomsday still happens."

"...Uh, but like, we can be an example to them... or something."

It is amazing how many niggas are out of touch with the world. I wish all the SJW kids in the west looked to the east first and tried to fix stuff over there, because the backlash would be the funniest thing to ever happen.

The most hilarious bit is that their constant whining actually has an effect, just not necessarily the one they want. A lot of corporations started greenwashing and bypass regulations by simply outsourcing the production - usually to *surprise* India and China. Who then go on to produce the same shit in a much dirtier, less carbon efficient way.
So they basically achieved the opposite of what they wanted and destroyed a bunch of jobs while they were at it. Good job, Friday activists.

It is also nice to witness that Greta now finds out first hand that most countries don't give a single fuck about mouthy little shits who look ten and forty at the same time. Though I am surprised that they went after her weight and not after Mommy hitting the wine cooler while pregnant.

“Australia’s Greta Thunberg” steps up climate change activism

Leading thousands of protest marchers through central Sydney and joining a landmark class action lawsuit aren’t the usual activities for most 14-year-olds.

But Australian student Izzy Raj-Seppings has abandoned more frivolous extracurricular activities in favour of stepping up pressure on the country's leadership to battle climate change.

Raj-Seppings has become one of the country's most prominent environmental activists since her tear-stained face made global headlines in late 2019 when she stared down riot police threatening to arrest her outside the prime minister's home.

"I think a lot of people look at us and just say, 'oh, they're kids, they don't know what they're talking about," she told Reuters in an interview on April 6.

"But I think they are underestimating us and they don't realise how powerful we are and how much work we're putting in. We're listening to scientists who have been trying to get people's attentions for generations and people haven't been listening to them about climate change."

Australia is the highest per capita carbon emitter among the world's richest nations and, according to Raj-Seppings, Prime Minister Scott Morrison's inaction on climate change shows the need for a change in leadership.

Her brush with police in 2019 came when the then 13-year-old joined angry protestors outside Morrison's official residence in Sydney in the wake of devastating bushfires - her first protest. The incident saw Raj-Seppings dubbed "Australia's Greta Thunberg" by local media.

She stepped further into the spotlight this month, leading thousands of fellow students in "School Strike 4 Climate" protest march through central Sydney.

She was also one of eight teenagers who brought a class action lawsuit against the federal government, arguing that the expansion of a coal mine in New South Wales state would contribute to climate change and endanger their future.

The case resulted in a landmark ruling last week that the country’s environment minister has so-called duty of care, or moral obligation to children to consider the harm caused by climate change.

Raj-Seppings had her own message for Morrison, should she have the opportunity to meet him one day.

“I’d definitely tell him that he does need to wake up, that the time is coming for action and we need it now,” she said in the April 6 interview.

Poor Greta, cast aside like an old pair of shoes.

They really need to source their claims like this one. I have no idea if that statement is true or not, but I'm inclined to believe they're manipulating the raw data to push an agenda.

In a sane world this would be understood for the absolute burn that it is.

It's always agenda pushing.

(Heck, this Reddit graph is agenda pushing. Noticeably absent: a certain country who took such a Great Leap Forward that on a bad day you can't even see the sky through the smog anymore.)

Teenager.

From Sydney.

And into the trash it goes!

Aussie teens campaigning to save the environment?

They did that in the 70's and 80's and it was more popular!

Greta Thunberg back for climate protests at Swedish parliament

https://www.msn.com/en-in/news/envi...ate-protests-at-swedish-parliament/ar-AAKW7V9

Stockholm, June 11 (IANS) Following a long spell of online protests, Swedish environment activist Greta Thunberg was back in front of the Swedish parliament building on Friday for an in-person demonstration against climate change.

Together with a handful of other protesters, Thunberg, showcasing her famous sign saying "School strike for climate" and wearing a face mask with the 'Fridays for Future' logo, returned to her original site in Stockholm, reports dpa news agency.

"Today we are back outside the Parliament. But the pandemic is still far from over, so we will continue to keep our numbers as low as possible and act in accordance with local restrictions," she posted on social media.

Thunberg began staging her one-woman protests in front of Sweden's Parliament building in August 2018, calling on politicians to ramp up the fight against climate change.

Within months, the climate youth movement 'Fridays for Future' was born, sparking mass demonstrations attended by hundreds of thousands of mainly young participants across the globe.

However, the coronavirus pandemic temporarily stopped such large-scale events.

Unable to keep up her Friday protests in person, Thunberg had turned to posting images online of herself holding up her protest sign at home.

In March, she held a sit-in in front of the European Commission's representation in Stockholm to protest against the EU's agricultural policy and in April she published a picture of herself in a deforested area in central Sweden.

---

So it looks like her going back to school full time really did die. I must admit that I'm surprised. I thought, she'd last at least a year.

Well she's over 18 now. This means she can't have criticism deflected with "why are you so threatened and triggered by a child?" any more.

They're still trying that I think. I know it's why she's still dressing like she's younger than she really is.

Doesn't seem to work too well though. I regularly check the news and despite record heat and catastrophic floods, her resting frownface is missing. The last bigger headline was about her getting vaccinated, the rest is in local newspapers with ten readers.
Sadly, Germany is still stuck with her no 1 minion, flying obsessed Luisa "okay for me but not for thee" Neubauer. Whom is now sitting in front of every fucking camera to talk about our imminent death.
