Why is Greta Thunberg so triggering? How can a 16-year-old girl in plaits, who has dedicated herself to the not-exactly sinister, authoritarian plot of trying to save the planet from extinction, inspire such incandescent rage?

Last week, she tweeted that she had arrived into New York after her two week transatlantic voyage: “Finally here. Thank you everyone who came to see me off in Plymouth, and everyone who welcomed me in New York! Now I’m going to rest for a few days, and on Friday I’m going to participate in the strike outside the UN”, before promptly giving a press conference in English. Yes, her second language.

Her remarks were immediately greeted with a barrage of jibes about virtue signalling, and snide remarks about the three crew members who will have to fly out to take the yacht home.

This shouldn’t need to be spelled out, but as some people don’t seem to have grasped it yet, we’ll give it a lash: Thunberg’s trip was an act of protest, not a sacred commandment or an instruction manual for the rest of us. Like all acts of protest, it was designed to be symbolic and provocative. For those who missed the point – and oh, how they missed the point – she retweeted someone else’s “friendly reminder” that: “You don’t need to spend two weeks on a boat to do your part to avert our climate emergency. You just need to do everything you can, with everyone you can, to change everything you can.”

Part of the reason she inspires such rage, of course, is blindingly obvious. Climate change is terrifying. The Amazon is burning. So too is the Savannah. Parts of the Arctic are on fire. Sea levels are rising. There are more vicious storms and wildfires and droughts and floods. Denial is easier than confronting the terrifying truth.

Then there’s the fact that we don’t like being made to feel bad about our life choices. That’s human nature. It’s why we sneer at vegans. It’s why we’re suspicious of sober people at parties. And if anything is likely to make you feel bad about your life choices -- as you jet back home after your third Ryanair European minibreak this season – it’ll be the sight of small-boned child subjecting herself to a fortnight being tossed about on the Atlantic, with only a bucket bearing a “Poo Only Please” sign by way of luxury, in order to make a point about climate change.

But that’s not virtue signalling, which anyone can indulge in. As Meghan Markle, Prince Harry, and their-four-private-jets-in-11-days found recently, virtue practising is a lot harder.

Even for someone who spends a lot of time on Twitter, some of the criticism levelled at Thunberg is astonishing. It is, simultaneously, the most vicious and the most fatuous kind of playground bullying. The Australian conservative climate change denier Andrew Bolt called her “deeply disturbed” and “freakishly influential” (the use of “freakish”, we can assume, was not incidental.) The former UKIP funder, Arron Banks, tweeted “Freaking yacht accidents do happen in August” (as above.) Brendan O’Neill of Spiked called her a “millenarian weirdo” (nope, still not incidental) in a piece that referred nastily to her “monotone voice” and “the look of apocalyptic dread in her eyes”.

But who’s the real freak – the activist whose determination has single-handedly started a powerful global movement for change, or the middle-aged man taunting a child with Asperger syndrome from behind the safety of their computer screens?

And that, of course, is the real reason why Greta Thunberg is so triggering. They can’t admit it even to themselves, so they ridicule her instead. But the truth is that they’re afraid of her. The poor dears are terrified of her as an individual, and of what she stands for – youth, determination, change.

She is part of a generation who won’t be cowed. She isn’t about to be shamed into submission by trolls. That’s not actually a look of apocalyptic dread in her eyes. It’s a look that says “you’re not relevant”.

The reason they taunt her with childish insults is because that’s all they’ve got. They’re out of ideas. They can’t dismantle her arguments, because she has science – and David Attenborough – on her side. They can’t win the debate with the persuasive force of their arguments, because these bargain bin cranks trade in jaded cynicism, not youthful passion. They can harangue her with snide tweets and hot take blogposts, but they won’t get a reaction because, frankly, she has bigger worries on her mind.

That’s not to say that we should accept everything Thunberg says without question. She is an idealist who is young enough to see the world in black and white. We need voices like hers. We should listen to what she has to say, without tuning the more moderate voices of dissent out.

Why is Greta Thunberg so triggering? Because of what she represents. In an age when democracy is under assault, she hints at the emergency of new kind of power, a convergence of youth, popular protest and irrefutable science. And for her loudest detractors, she also represents something else: the sight of their impending obsolescence hurtling towards them.

Greta is a perfect microcosm of SocJus. She's unhappy with the way of the world, so the world needs to shape up to suit her desires--and only hers. If you refuse her, she'll throw an autistic tantrum, and it will be your fault, because you are doing evil in making her throw a tantrum. And of course, like all SJWs, she's happy to trade whatever credibility or integrity she has for e-fame or money.
The journos, like the one OP pointed to, are all pushing this narrative that the only people who don't like Greta are morbidly obese, sickly pale Captain Planet villains who dump nuclear waste into national parks for sport. Impossibly petty, retarded, ratbrained machiavellian imbeciles who are terrifying enough to engineer the destruction of the planet, all while being petty enough to shit themselves at a contrived media puppet.

Honestly, it's a disgrace to critical thinking that the journos have convinced so many to fall for this idiotic strawman.

The whole narrative is just so damn contrived it's embarrassing. There's more emotive language than a high school debate club. Sometimes I think those same rich ass polluters are the ones financially backing her up, making this whole thing for the sake of devaluing the climate change debate and getting more moronic loudmouths with no practical ideas or solutions in the conversation. I wouldn't be surprised if Greta's there to put more emphasis on the stupid environmentalists in order to make the rest of them look bad.

Meanwhile, every coloured kid in the universe is inseparably welded together into one big beautiful diverse mass, with Greta at its head. Behind it is a stitched together mass of The Scientists, knowing all the secrets of the universe because they Just Do. There's no such thing as the scientific method or dissenting theories, there's just Scientific Fact, which remains immutable for all eternity, and there's Koch.

Their minds an infinite environmentalist hivemind repeating Greta's slogans again and again, with zero deviance. Every single person below the age of thirty, every single person whose ancestors didn't come from Europe, exists only to worship Greta and parrot what she's saying for all eternity.

Two hiveminds, bleating the opposite noise. No individuality, just the cosmic forces of preservation and corruption, innocence and gluttony, forever and ever. It's a puppet show of gods and demons, heroes and villains that makes as much sense as a cartoon. Gaia and Hades. Paradise and Inferno. This is the narrative that's being pushed on you. No reality, no nuance, just symbolism designed to stimulate your neurons. You're not a person. You're just one of two voices, chanting the same thing, forever and ever. And one of them will win.

It's so contrived, it's retarded.

Greta Thunberg poses no threat to the polluters. She exists so frumpy middle aged women and zoomer truants can think they're sticking it to The Man, while The Man doesn't give a shit and keeps fucking up the planet, business as usual, all while first worlders pat themselves on the back for being saviours.

When will she post or react on social media?

I'll save you the bother of waiting and just post her inevitable answer to this report: "We all need to work together as an international community to reduce the effects of climate change on our planet."

Chy-na will get away with shit for a good while yet because people still remember that Trump doesn't like them.

First India, now China. She really has a talent for pissing off politicians. She has a point, but I can't say I blame them.
By the way, I thought she wanted to give up her climate crusade and go back to school after she took the last year off. Looks like that didn't last...
Her parents are hurting for the dopamine they got from getting attention through her, and it's becoming clear she wants that attention too.

So even pissing off China is worth that attention, despite the stupid amount of apologia for that shithole there is out there.

Oh absolutely. She can whinge about 'muh privacy' all she wants. It is very clear hat she is loving the attention and adoration. One can be an activist without hauling her ass to every event with cameras.

I also think she found out that highschool isn't for her. Not in the "uwu, my autism and sensory issues", since she has zero problems within loud crowds and surrounded by journalists, but that she is lacking the work ethics and academic prowess to be successful. Being reasonably good at speaking english (which is pretty much the norm in Sweden) and listing a bunch of facts about her autistic obsession are not the same as being a good student. The school not having a "do whatever you want and show up when you're feeling like it"-attitude must've hit hard as well. She is accustomed to special treatment and just being treated like any other teenager has to be difficult.

Well yeah, refusing to go to school since like 8th grade and absorbing the fame bug your awful parents also have would utterly demolish any chance she'd have of wanting to actually finish.

Seriously, it's going to be fun when a decade from now she still desperately uses her awful self-centered parents' money to fund her attempts to get relevant.

All while the creepy people use more children as human shields for their gay millenarian cult of cargo cultusts.

Chinese State Media Just Tried to Fat-Shame Greta Thunberg

https://www.vice.com/en/article/5db3g3/china-climate-change-greta-thunberg (https://archive.ph/KD88l)

The 18-year-old Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg has been viciously attacked on the Chinese internet for criticizing China’s carbon emissions.

In a scathing article published last week on China Daily, an outlet owned by the ruling Communist Party, Thunberg was mocked for her weight and labelled an “environmental princess” after she urged China to do more to address climate change.

“Although she claims to be vegetarian, judging from the results of her growth, her carbon emissions are actually not low,” said the writer, Tang Ge, who originally posted the article on the social media and messaging app WeChat.

Chinese social media users have joined the attack on Thunberg, complaining about her “double standards” in faulting China for its carbon emissions and for not speaking up about problems elsewhere.

Echoing the China Daily article, top comments on social media about Thunberg have criticized her for not talking more about Japan’s plan to release treated wastewater from the failed Fukushima nuclear power plants into the sea.

The Chinese responses to Thunberg’s criticism underscore how politics and nationalism can infiltrate the public conversation about how to mitigate the climate crisis.

Thunberg’s call for action wasn’t extreme. In a tweet earlier this month, which became the subject of the China Daily article’s criticisms, Thunberg was responding to a report saying that China’s annual emissions were greater than those of all developed nations combined in 2019.

Acknowledging that China is a developing country and a global manufacturing hub, she said that the climate crisis can’t be solved unless the country “drastically changes course.”

In a subsequent tweet, she posted a video showing that the United States had greater cumulative emissions since 1750 than any other country and called on developed countries to lead the effort to reduce emissions.

The negative reactions to Thunberg could have come in part from China’s aversion to her brand of activism, which has inspired young climate campaigners in the country.

She was previously attacked in China for voicing her support for Hong Kong pro-democracy activist Joshua Wong, who has been imprisoned for organizing illegal protests.

Between the climate loli picking fights with Chy-na and Bill Gates in the process of getting canceled, it looks like this is the swan song for this wave of hyperleftist environmentalism. I’m guessing our chink overlords and benevolent billionaires (sans Gates) are tired of letting the proles think they get a say in any of this and our new benevolent leadership class can do whatever they want, environment be damned. The white proles must eat bugs so infinite numbers of polluting niggers may live.

Narcissistic Swedish Family who ruined their special needs daughter for life do last gasps on relevance.

It's actually a shame because these fucking millenarian deathcult retards should've pointed out what China contributes to pollution decades ago. I don't know if this is a desperate cry for attention to get their Indian backers back or not, but I know they already have a human child shield already.
