Why is Greta Thunberg so triggering? How can a 16-year-old girl in plaits, who has dedicated herself to the not-exactly sinister, authoritarian plot of trying to save the planet from extinction, inspire such incandescent rage?

Last week, she tweeted that she had arrived into New York after her two week transatlantic voyage: “Finally here. Thank you everyone who came to see me off in Plymouth, and everyone who welcomed me in New York! Now I’m going to rest for a few days, and on Friday I’m going to participate in the strike outside the UN”, before promptly giving a press conference in English. Yes, her second language.

Her remarks were immediately greeted with a barrage of jibes about virtue signalling, and snide remarks about the three crew members who will have to fly out to take the yacht home.

This shouldn’t need to be spelled out, but as some people don’t seem to have grasped it yet, we’ll give it a lash: Thunberg’s trip was an act of protest, not a sacred commandment or an instruction manual for the rest of us. Like all acts of protest, it was designed to be symbolic and provocative. For those who missed the point – and oh, how they missed the point – she retweeted someone else’s “friendly reminder” that: “You don’t need to spend two weeks on a boat to do your part to avert our climate emergency. You just need to do everything you can, with everyone you can, to change everything you can.”

Part of the reason she inspires such rage, of course, is blindingly obvious. Climate change is terrifying. The Amazon is burning. So too is the Savannah. Parts of the Arctic are on fire. Sea levels are rising. There are more vicious storms and wildfires and droughts and floods. Denial is easier than confronting the terrifying truth.

Then there’s the fact that we don’t like being made to feel bad about our life choices. That’s human nature. It’s why we sneer at vegans. It’s why we’re suspicious of sober people at parties. And if anything is likely to make you feel bad about your life choices -- as you jet back home after your third Ryanair European minibreak this season – it’ll be the sight of small-boned child subjecting herself to a fortnight being tossed about on the Atlantic, with only a bucket bearing a “Poo Only Please” sign by way of luxury, in order to make a point about climate change.

But that’s not virtue signalling, which anyone can indulge in. As Meghan Markle, Prince Harry, and their-four-private-jets-in-11-days found recently, virtue practising is a lot harder.

Even for someone who spends a lot of time on Twitter, some of the criticism levelled at Thunberg is astonishing. It is, simultaneously, the most vicious and the most fatuous kind of playground bullying. The Australian conservative climate change denier Andrew Bolt called her “deeply disturbed” and “freakishly influential” (the use of “freakish”, we can assume, was not incidental.) The former UKIP funder, Arron Banks, tweeted “Freaking yacht accidents do happen in August” (as above.) Brendan O’Neill of Spiked called her a “millenarian weirdo” (nope, still not incidental) in a piece that referred nastily to her “monotone voice” and “the look of apocalyptic dread in her eyes”.

But who’s the real freak – the activist whose determination has single-handedly started a powerful global movement for change, or the middle-aged man taunting a child with Asperger syndrome from behind the safety of their computer screens?

And that, of course, is the real reason why Greta Thunberg is so triggering. They can’t admit it even to themselves, so they ridicule her instead. But the truth is that they’re afraid of her. The poor dears are terrified of her as an individual, and of what she stands for – youth, determination, change.

She is part of a generation who won’t be cowed. She isn’t about to be shamed into submission by trolls. That’s not actually a look of apocalyptic dread in her eyes. It’s a look that says “you’re not relevant”.

The reason they taunt her with childish insults is because that’s all they’ve got. They’re out of ideas. They can’t dismantle her arguments, because she has science – and David Attenborough – on her side. They can’t win the debate with the persuasive force of their arguments, because these bargain bin cranks trade in jaded cynicism, not youthful passion. They can harangue her with snide tweets and hot take blogposts, but they won’t get a reaction because, frankly, she has bigger worries on her mind.

That’s not to say that we should accept everything Thunberg says without question. She is an idealist who is young enough to see the world in black and white. We need voices like hers. We should listen to what she has to say, without tuning the more moderate voices of dissent out.

Why is Greta Thunberg so triggering? Because of what she represents. In an age when democracy is under assault, she hints at the emergency of new kind of power, a convergence of youth, popular protest and irrefutable science. And for her loudest detractors, she also represents something else: the sight of their impending obsolescence hurtling towards them.

Found this thought-provoking indeed.

yeah it's not about saying "lol take the poo to the loo" it's about "whoops here's our secret plans to destabilize the government of India"

ummmmmm tweeting about international plans to illegally destabilize the government of India and psychologically manipulate a working class segment of India is actually just tweeting sweaty overthrowing the government is just freedom of speech

However, those documents clearly demonstrated coordination with outside agitators, which should at least be viewed with suspicion,
I disagree. The document showed that they were attempting to coopt and exploit an internal issue for their own ends. In the process they've created a situation where the Indian government can claim that the protest is artificial, which allows them to more easily dismiss the concerns of the protesters. Basically this is a bunch of westerners and indian opportunists attempting to take advantage of a real problem and turn it to their own advantage, and in the process fucking over the people they claim to want to help. Again.

Well enjoy sucking that camel cock and being a complete cuck I guess.
First off, I replaced that camel cock with coconut cock. Second, I clearly stated that this isn't a speech issue, it's a regime change against democratically elected governments issue. Finally, I'm surprised that given the last seventeen years of American history, anyone but the most elite of neoliberal and brainwashed of NPC would be in favor of regime change.

That's retarded. Speech is always a speech issue, whatever the motivations of the people doing it. That's on the level of retarded SJW "speech is really violence" bullshit.

And this is why it's stupid to do shit like this. The Modi fascists should have just exploited it, and instead they decided to act like exactly the jackbooted fascists they're accused of being.

I wonder what Greta thinks about this..
Greta: "Mom, I thought we were doing good things. Why do the indians hate us now?"
Her Handler: "Just eat your dinner, it's almost time for bed"
I almost feel sorry for her, I have a feeling in that future that the elite is gonna develop the perfect FAS babies that will be sentient enough to yell at people but not smart enough to pick up on what's really happening. Greta is the prototype of the future residents of the world!

Lol no it's not. This is definitely closer to direct incitement to violence if you were to plonk it onto the first amendment spectrum. By your logic there shouldn't be Pinkerton liability for people who verbally assist in coordinating a criminal conspiracy, because after all, those are their free speech rights.

My question is, why even tweet that in the first place? Why out in the open? There's no way she could've fucked up this badly knowingly.
Lmao no it was an obvious fuckup and revealed this puppet as what she is. Instead of prosecuting Greta, though, which was the Modi fascist response, they should have just gone and exploited it and used it to show the strings of the marionette's puppeteer. That kind of shit would have been a successful exploitation.

Instead we get this dumb bullshit, where Modi gets to look like some second rate Nazi trying to prosecute a loli for tweeting. Which isn't that far from the truth.

Or maybe they are trying to charge a smaller player in order to get evidence against the puppeteers

How does this work? Greta is now on top of the world again. Is she somehow going to confess to nonexistent authorities who have no power to do anything to her at all? She can tell India to go fuck itself. Which is what she's going to do.

Remember when I called her a puppet of a creepy indian man besides being a mouthpiece for her parents? Looks like I was right on this one.

Hahaha holy shit. She's being used to try and destabilize a government because likely said creepy indian man who fed her lines also hates the quasi-dictator in power.

Lol ok and these non existent authorities have the ability to go after the puppeteers too? Or they could make a case that will make headlines and try to bring light to the issue.

A couple of theories:

Hanlon's Razor: the girl is just a sped. Any time I make fun of her on Facebook, my leftoid friends shriek, "Leave her alone, she's just a kid with autism!", so if there's any merit to this claim, then she's just plain...well, autistic. Stupid is as stupid does, ma'am. Speds tend to say insanely retarded shit when they have internet access. Some speds make Pikachu/Sonic fanart. Some dress up in ridiculous animal costumes and defecate in diapers. Others just unknowingly leak illegal information about overthrowing a government. Whoops, be careful, I have autism! 🧢

But a more sinister theory is that the elites with the great big globohomo are deliberately using her as the "face" of their organizations, since her childish image appeals tugs on peoples' heartstrings, as well as her image childish naivety can be used as an excuse (or scapegoat) for when anything goes wrong. When an adult politician is revealed to be corrupt and fucks up tremendously, the public wants blood...but throw in a deformed teenager who looks like an 11-year girl with pigtails, and the narrative shifts to, "Whoopsie daisy! Kids say the darndest things uwu!". The elites know this wholeheartedly. Think about it: there's an infamous radical feminist and leftist eco-activist named Vandana Shiva who also says dumb shit and peddles muh climate change and has a controversial reputation. Why doesn't the public go gaga for her like lil' Greta? Because she's an old fat smelly Indian.

If the Parkland anti-gun activists have taught us anything is that the public will eat up any tripe if they get kids to do their dirty work: leftoids can spew out, "Think of muh kids!" or "We all said crazy things at that age!" when you criticize them. If the main organizer of this conspiracy was a fat white Boomer and looked like Harvey Weinstein, he's toast. Now imagine if that same guilty party looked like Cindy from The Brady Bunch...and that's exactly what we're dealing with here.

Hey, at least she's a legal loli.

The thing is, are we sure that's entirely her twitter account? She's gotta have PR guys running it or something.

Actually, with that in mind, your second theory about her being the fall potato makes a lot of sense.

Her social media accounts are run by Indians.

I mean, it's quite interesting that as soon as Joe was installed, they're trying to start some color revolution bullshit in both Russia and India. Brazil next?

Are you faggots idiots? A protest pamphlet isn't some secret nefarious plan, it is meant to be distributed. Have you ever organised something? A dossier is necessary
True, but those things are usually for the inside. The general public gets a shiny PR leaflet with rough dates and oulines for protests and without the details and time for Rihanna to tweet shit and telling people to withdraw investments. This is basically inviting the Indian government to discredit the protests (that might be valid) as some foreign conspiracy.
This was just a fuck up on either her part or from daddy dearest and that Indian guy who run her social media. Nothing will happen, it is just nice to see a lot of Indians not buying into her shit and her fans doing mental backflips trying to twist it into some clever ruse planned by their 'tism genius.
