I disagree. GTAForums was in a proper uproar about it and tbh r*'s never gonna get the genie on the bottle for online ever again, that's why they're milking V.
Just so you know, also in the GTAForums, in the Red Dead Online thread, they are currently discussing paying for a monthly subscription, just to get private lobbies. Those people are willing to pay a monthly subscription for a game they already payed 60 dollars for, which is also heavily pushed towards microtransactions, all to be able to play in a private lobby. So yeah, while there are people outraged about what R* is doing, you also get schmucks defending and supporting their bullshit.

GTA forums account for a small amount of people. Gamers will spread their cheeks just like they always do. People still buy Madden every year. People still buy Forza. People still buy Pokémon. Loot crates went away after popular outrage, right? Gamers are the battered wives living in a trailer park. Always trying to convince themselves that next time will be different, he only beats me because he loves me. There's always another 14 year old with access to mom's credit card.

If they don't think they can recreate their magic they should go the route Microsoft took with Halo and release a compilation like Halo Master Chief Collection. An all in one, 60 fps, HD remastered version of GTA 3, GTA Vice City, GTA San Andreas and GTA 4 would sell like crazy.

They tried that with San Andreas. They released it on mobile, then lazily ported that version onto the PS3 and Xbox 360. Not to mention that SA was released several times. Apple, Android, Windows Phone, Kindle, PS3 (twice), Xbox (twice, three if you count BC), PS4, Steam, R* launcher.

Hell, the original GTA trilogy is on download for the PS4 (I assume with the cut soundtrack.)

I think they should just leave them be.

A GTA trilogy collection will not happen becuase the 3D era games have aged horrifically in the graphics and gameplay department

*shrug* They're fine on PC with graphic mods. Still tons of fun.

I'm checking out GTA forums after not being on in a long while. Jesus Christ some of them are hyped up thinking the next Online update is going to have a new land mass. A lot of "it's gonna be Liberty City!" posts and stuff.

I'm pretty sure it's just going to be a heist in Fort Zancudo or if Rockstar gets really stupid on a space ship or something. There are apparently UFO themed business battles that are locked out of activating right now so that would honestly surprise me less than a land mass expansion at this point.

Anybody owned the original Xbox versions of GTA 3 and Vice City?

R* did a damn good job porting those games on Xbox. The graphical detail they added was too notch. Characters have fingers, lighting is better, effects are more detailed. Explosions, rain, sound effects, all brand new for the Xbox.

Particularly in III, vehicles have too much "shine." Vice City looks the best with the sun glare and water effects. And you even have the option for custom soundtracks via the Xbox hard drive, not on 360 via BC however.

III and Vice City from PS2/PC to Xbox is night and day.

Shit, Lazlow is gone too? I've been playing III a lot and he's charming as hell in that. Dammit. Also, no, they really aren't. Don't assume others feel the same way as you do about these things. That and III, in spite of not having some of the stuff later games did, really isn't all that different from IV and V. It was refined later, yes, but god, it wasn't unplayable. Not by a long shot, and things could have been way worse.

No need to buy the next one if we don’t get to see the next chapter of Lazlow’s downfall

Most GTA fans today started with V or IV (including me). The 3D era games come of as really boring and archaic

Imagine starting with boring ass GTA IV and that being your basis for GTA. Damn I feel bad for kids today with their Fortnites and Sci Fi GTA. Back in my day we didn't even have cutscenes you just were told what to do from a phone booth and you LIKED it!

GTA IV is the best GTA no contest. It trumps everything else in atmosphere and driving (to me the two most important parts of a GTA game). V is better in terms of story but the open word is seriously lacking

GTA IV was so atmospheric it forgot to be fun, which is the actual most important part of GTA funny enough.

Admittedly, GTA 3D controls haven't aged well. Particularly with aiming on console. III suffered the worst with time.

But unplayable? Not by a long shot. Vice City's setting alone thanks to 80s culture and research is quite timeless. San Andreas has a lot to do even with the big map and story.

The phone booth missions were a homage to GTA 1/2. Even GTA V had them again with Lester's assassination missions.

GTA IV was a great game for its time. The attention to detail with the city and story R* recreated for the next generation of consoles deserves recognition.

Yes, it took some getting used to if you were used to the arcade style of GTA 3D. Driving was heavy, fishtailing with every turn. And the music wasn't as great as before (worse now thanks to copyright). But it did refine aspects such as shooting and storytelling.

Now however, it hasn't aged as well as it should. R* basically left IV to die.

the salt will be delicious if there won't be "EnTiReLy NeW lOcAtIon" in winter update :story:

Although I spend most days playing the online version of GTA 5, GTA 3 is my all time favourite.

Yeah, Vice City is my favorite but I'm aware it's simply because of the soundtrack and atmosphere.

I love all the 3D Era GTA's and still play them today, even LIberty City and Vice City Stories sometimes.

I wouldn't say GTA IV is a bad game, it's just a bad GTA. Too much travel to push expository dialogue, it has a handful of truly great missions but the majority are just repetitive and feel like filler, fun side missions like vigilante/firefighter/paramedic were replaced with boring bowling/pool/darts. It's super jarring coming off of San Andreas which is why I think people in their teens and early 20's don't "get it".

It's a real problem with the modern GTA formula. They're so damn stuck on being "true to their story" and making the map as detailed as possible that the game suffers in the long run. It's also why I think the vast majority of people gravitated to GTA Online because Rockstar goes in the completely opposite direction with it and don't seem to give a fuck about logic at all.
