I just got done playing through Vice City. If it wasn't for the 80's theming and culture it wouldn't be quite as good. It's basically just a mod or more like an expansion for GTA3. It's the same framework as GTA3 but instead it's the 80's. I played it on my PC. No, I didn't buy the DE remasters. I played the original version. It's completely playable on PC with mods. You will need the Definitive Edition Project mod to play it. It installs a bunch of mods that make the game look and play better than the original PC version which lacks the PS2 "trails" which adds in the coloring and lighting effects. The radio with the music and talk shows helps boost the exaggerated 80's experience. The Definitive Edition mod does not make it look like a modern game.
Last time I played this game was 2002 or 2003 on my PS2. At the time I had one of the big PS2's and I got it just a few months after the launch. It suffered with the DRE issue which means Disc Read Error. It was an issue with early model PS2's. It was one of the few games I could play on it. I believe the DRE issue would affect certain PS2 games differently depending on what kind of disc it was. If it was the blue bottom mine would play it fine. But if it was the silver DVD's it wouldn't play that well. But Vice City played fine so I spent a lot of time playing it till I could get a new PS2.
I still think it's one of the best GTA games. Though the game mechanics haven't aged well in some cases.
RDR1 and RDR2 were such good games. I got to get back into RDR2 and finish up my PC play through. I got so many games I haven' t played much of lately.
I tried Bully a few years back and didn't care for it much. I tried playing it again a year or so ago and got a little farther into it. It's still not one of my favorite Rockstar games.
