Ever since Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition’s launch, Rockstar Games has been hard at work. Initially, they tried to improve the trilogy to the fans’ standards to meet consumer demand. Then, they ended up offering free copies of the original trilogy to PC players to make it up to them. Now Rockstar is going the extra mile by offering free copies of more modern titles from their library on PC.
GTA: Trilogy owners have the choice to own one of the five offered games:
  • Grand Theft Auto 5: Premium Edition
  • Grand Theft Auto 4: Complete Edition
  • Max Payne 3
  • LA Noire
  • Bully: Scholarship Edition
If players already own all these games or don’t want to acquire them, there’s another option. Rockstar is also offering a Great White Shark Card in Grand Theft Auto Online or 55 gold bars in Red Dead Online.

Only thing I can think of after reading these parts were this:

"Definitive Edition" of anything is a joke now thanks to that release.

No offense to Mafia: Definitive Edition, a B-list game with a fraction of the fanbase and budget of GTA, yet STILL had a better remaster than the trilogy.

While Ron would make more sense from a story standpoint, he was always Trevor's bitch so yeah, Chef is really the only one who could be taken seriously as a playable character in lieu of Trevor. It's not possible to lose him in any of the heists (unlike most of the other gunmen) if you elect to bring him along, right? I remember he was pretty damn useful in the heists.

Chef is also notably voiced by Anthony Cumia who has a thread here.

The more i think about it, the more i dig the "Trevor was originally meant to be the antagonist" angle, what with Michael being the first protagonist conceived for GTA 5, and even the return to North Yankton mission's serious "final mission" vibes.

Would've kept Mike's original design when he was much older, have him look the part of the mentor figure that Trevor seemed to have thought of him as, realism be damned. Entire game builds up the shaky partnership he has with Trevor and how far he goes to keep the lie alive about what happened back then and why he had to hide it, and the conflict enters it's climax once Trevor finds out the truth.

Rockstar could even keep their beloved "DARK SIDE OF THE AMERICAN DREAM" angle they love so much by ending the story with Michael returning to an empty, fucked up home, smell of booze and blood all over him, he sits on his couch and half heartedly pops the tv on. Family has abandoned him, and he has just killed the only other person who ever cared for him somewhat. He puts a movie on and reminisces about the good old times, now gone by. Credits roll.

"Why did i move here...? I guess it was the weather..."

Still can't get over the assistant bitch getting eaten by the engine
It's a rotten way to go out. I've played through the game on three separate instances and I have to look away every time I get to that part of that particular mission.

It's also implied according at her LifeInvader page that she was kinda mentally unstable and was obsessed with making Devin happy, and she also has a daughter apparently? Molly's written to be a massive, unlikable cunt but at the same time I can't help but pity her. Imagine putting your life on the line for Devon Westin of all people.

Such a pointless death too, since the film was digitally archived anyway.

I'm kinda surprised her death is what sets Weston off, I got the impression that he could've easily replaced her.

Oh yeah I forgot about that part! The entire mission was for nothing and all it did was end up padding the main campaign.

I think Devin was aware that Molly was emotionally dependent on him and got a kick out of having a personal assistant who was devoted to his interests to the point of psychosis. Alternatively, losing Molly caused Devin to suffer financial losses from failed resource acquisitions (Richards Majestic being the big one that we see as the player) and would be a resource-intensive task to replace someone as efficient and ruthless as her, so he calls a hit out on on Michael's family for inconveniencing him.

I'm probably digging way to deep into this. Molly's entire arc is just one giant morbid joke at the end of the day.

You are now reminded that the guy who voiced 8-Ball in GTA III was famous for being a part of one half of the famous old school rap group that gave us the theme song to Big Smoke’s fast food order:

I'm kinda surprised her death is what sets Weston off, I got the impression that he could've easily replaced her.
It's more of Devin's ego. Molly was Devin's legal counsel to get away with screwing with people. Remember at the end how Devin reacts when he loses even after playing all his cards.

Another reason why GTA V's writing is botched.

Now that I think about it, there's a surprising amount of missions in GTAV that are for nothing really, the entire Merryweather heist being a massive blue ball moment, all the car collecting missions for Devin Weston, kidnapping D with Lamar and Chop, Hood Safari and The Long Stretch both involving drug deals going wrong (but were fun shootouts at least), Minor Turbulence, Bury the Hatchet since Trevor stops caring about Brad after Ending C despite what happened, and the Molly's death mission Legal Trouble.

Looking up the mission list I realize the whole story of GTAV is super underwhelming, it's basically "three guys do a bunch of busy work for annoying assholes and are sometimes paid, one is hiding a big secret from another that the game forgets about until right near the end, secret gets exposed, Trevor is angry for like the last few missions, they pull a big heist for themselves for once, then Ending C where they kill the annoying assholes, Trevor stops being mad and is all fine now, gang lives happily ever after". Besides little bits here and there of course, like Michael getting in good graces with his family, Franklin getting out of the hood and into business, Trevor killing his Irish rivals and becoming trailer trash Heisenberg, etc. it really just didn't click with me like with previous games' stories.

Personally I really liked Trevor
I liked him too and found him entertaining at times, but the whole time I was also thinking, what professional criminals would ever willingly work with this guy? He's Waingro from Heat but 1000x times more unhinged.

kidnapping D with Lamar and Chop, Hood Safari and The Long Stretch both involving drug deals going wrong (but were fun shootouts at least),
Account that for Lamar's stupidity.

the entire Merryweather heist being a massive blue ball moment,
I feel Trevor messing with Merryweather was R*'s way of justifying Trevor's insanity. Then, magically, here comes Devin Weston with HIS ties to Merryweather.

Bury the Hatchet since Trevor stops caring about Brad after Ending C despite what happened
Rushed? Sure, but it brings to light Trevor's loyalty to a fault. I take it he forgave Micheal after they teamed up to kill their adversities. We don't even know much about Brad.

I felt Trevor had the worst conclusion. As you mentioned, Michael got his family back with a dream job. Franklin saved Lamar and made it big. Trevor gets a hallucination of his abusive mother and the end.

Honestly Trevor's whole story is sad, they just focused on making him funni wacko psycho man the whole time. He was once a normal guy just not all there in the head with aspirations to join the Air Force, got rejected and dragged into the criminal life by Michael, and now is so far off the deep end there's no happy ending for him. I wish they explored it more, it would have been way more interesting than lots of the other shit that happened imo.

I have a theory: is Trevor really THAT dangerous or did people say that to him so much, he BECAME what they SAY he is?

Good theory, I imagine he was way more "chill" and considerably less violent before he met Michael, he was just at his lowest point after getting the rejection, his shit childhood, etc. all for Michael to take advantage of him and push him into a downward spiral by introducing him to crime, got called crazy a lot so he decided to "embrace it" and acted out more and more, only to become an actual monster.

Seriously Cockstar why didn't you go with something like this, it would have been way better than dealing with Weston and Haines' smug douchebag asses or Jimmy the stoner zoomer being a worthless fuck up. Not asking for another super gritty and depressing thing like GTAIV but they could have did something way more interesting with V.
