An 80s setting isn't profitable enough for GTA Online so it won't happen IMO. RDR 2 Online is partially a flop because there isn't much you can do for add ons since it's the wild west. No cars, planes, helicopters, automatic weapons, etc. GTA Online can have any theme they want for new stuff too, including the old west. 80s GTA Online would have to stick to the 80s and wouldn't be able to have smart phones or the internet.

They'll try to go the Back to the Future or Jetsons route. Like an 80s vision of the future.

I wish Red Dead Online was more successful than it is. I think it is a suitable cowboy simulator hampered by lack of content and paywalls. I had thought Red Dead Online would be for somebody that wants to experience an open world without OP shit.

Yeah 80s setting means that all you fcking zoomers can't take your shitty smartphones and your comp-ut-a-az with you. Also no option to advertise the latest people of basketball-music. Besides that Vice City of the 80s was the prime definition of white supremacy. VC was like 60% white in 1986 gosh. Were is the ethnic food, were are the creative POC communities, were is the diversity? You could also use Berlin in 1936 instead. I'm glad America moved forward.
 
It’s a little confusing as to why Franklin in the new GTA Online Contract missions wants to get back into Crime by trying to save and protect Lamar’s newfound weed business in Los Santos.

That’s something I would expect from Micheal’s son, Jimmy, not from an established and legitimate “businessman” like Franklin.
