Demon Days is what introduced me to them, but my favorite album is Plastic Beach, solely for Empire Ants.

It's one of my favorite songs, and listening to it and the rest of the album helped get me through a rough period in my life.

I loved Gorillaz back when they did their first three albums. Humanz and the other stuff before The Mountain just consisted of a bunch of ensemble musicians without any real substance. Hearing The Mountain as sort of a return to what made Gorillaz great is interesting. I also like their short film they just released for The Mountain.

There's a bit too much of a Hindu theme going on with 'The Mountain' to my liking, but was bit surprised seeing Omar Souleyman featured in it (only knew him from that Shift Al Mani song).

Also Kara Jackson's a troon

I listened to The Fall, the album that Damon recorded entirely on an iPad while on the Plastic Beach tour. It isn’t the best album ever, but there were a few songs that were good. I think that he should have stuck to making an EP with those few songs that were good, because he really went for quantity over quality.

Gorillaz were my absolute favorite band when I was a kid, the first band I was really obsessed with. The whole concept of the band, the Phase 1 website, the music and the videos just blew me away. I saw them on their first US tour, still have Phase 1 posters on my wall (5 foot tall poster of 2D currently in storage), got a Plastic Beach-related tattoo, but I was so disappointed by Humanz (although there are some good songs) that I have barely bothered to listen to the newer albums since. I haven't listened to The Mountain yet but I did watch The Mountain, The Moon Cave and The Sad God and I felt a twinge of nostalgia I haven't felt since Plastic Beach.

Even if far from the peak I enjoyed most of song machine, still pissed they ruined pink phantom with that awful mumble rap shit. Going from Elton John's incredibly power voice to some dude who sounds like he just woke up kills me inside.

Disgusting…

I always thought that the point of 2-D’s character was that he was the pretty BOY who got all the girls. Making him non-binary takes away the point of his character. And why is he non-binary? Is this some stupid grift? I know the Gorillaz creators have always used the cartoon band to virtue signal about some cause, whether it be Free Tibet (is 2-D still a Buddhist?) or the plastic pollution problem. But this is ridiculous. 2-D isn’t non-binary. Stop ruining your characters.

Damon is probably buck broken or simply has always been virtue signaling considering:
Probably both. I don’t understand it. 2-D never was a crossdresser. I do know that the fandom is obsessed with him being a troon because he is tall with blue hair. But he was never canonically NB. I think it would have been more realistic for Murdoc or Russel to troon or NB out, as they have had desire to cross dress.

To be fair, this is from the same guy who sung "Looking for girls who are boys who like boys to be girls / Who do boys like they're girls, who do girls like they're boys." And yes, I know many at the time took this song as some kind of biting commentary of the 90's club scene... but you know how people evolve, and it seems like the bisexuals have claimed this one, lol.

Well, speaking of that, it seems like this has been a while in coming.
Found it via this Reddit thread (archive) where they weren't having it.

I like Blur and love the Gorillaz. However, with their need for collabs to make the format work, it was always more likely to wind up like this, rather than Damon having a Morrissey style CHUD arc.

Damon claims to be an “intellectual bisexual”. (Archive)
I’ve always been more of an intellectual bisexual. I wouldn’t get a hard-on looking at another bloke, but I like the idea of bisexuality.
Suck a dick or shut up Damon!

It says a lot when even the Gorillaz KWEER fandom thinks that the band is trying too hard.

I used to be majorly into Gorillaz when I was 13 and visited the message board/chat-o-matic on the regular.

I still like the songs on their first album and a few ones after (DARE is a banger) but otherwise, meh.

I'm not really surprised by the choice to make 2-D part of the rainbow crowd. The Gorillaz of now is a pretty stark contrast to how they were originally - Murdoch being a foul-mouthed, womanising Satanist who used 2D as his personal punching bag being just one.

Is Russel still possessed by a rapper friend who died in a drive-by shooting or has that been retconned?

I think Del got exorcised around the time Del the Funky Homosapien stopped being involved. Though I think Russ is still some form of medium who has weird supernatural shit happen to him from time to time.
