I direct your attention to the Q&A at the bottom.
"Q. What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
A. I do. Mermaiding is actually my side job. Behind that tail, I am a published author and have received Valedictorian from my school. I'm currently in college to expand my knowledge in writing, mass communications and film work."
Look, I know it's petty, and I know she's far from the first person to do it, and I know that for some reason we live in a society that has made a point of rewarding sub-mediocrity in writing, but it still bothers me. Writing is not a get rich and famous quick scheme. Writing is not - with the very rare exception - an innate talent. It is a skill that needs to be practiced and improved upon. Writing a novel is hard fucking work and it takes dedication and time and love. Writing is an exercise in humility and patience because you'll pour your heart and soul and time and sweat into it and you will always find someone who hates it and hates you for writing it. No matter how painstakingly you work, you will always go back and find places you want to change.
I know that no one looks at Gloria Tesch as an author. I know that we are the closest to acclaim she'll ever see. But how a person treats their craft says a lot about them; Maradonia is a representation of a thousand hours at a keyboard when she could have been doing anything else. It is the materialization of those thousand hours and she could not care less about it. She does nothing to improve it, has no respect for her target audience, has no respect for the act of writing, has absolutely no respect for the publishing process and would rather plug her ears and scream "haterzzz" than to take criticism and learn from it.
And I still like Gloria better than this brat:

Where does one go to apply for a mermaiding job? What kind of diplome/references does one need? How much can you make by mermaiding? What career options does it offer, could one climb up the ladder to be CEO Neptune or so??
