Russian gas flows to Germany again, Moscow eyes giant Ukrainian power plant​

Russian gas began flowing to Europe via a major pipeline on Thursday after a 10-day pause but fears of broader supply cuts remained and Russian forces in Ukraine were seen eyeing the capture of the country's second biggest power plant. The resumption of gas flows via the Nord Stream 1 pipeline to Germany ended a nerve-jangling 10 days for Europe in which politicians expressed concern Russia might not restart them at a time when alternative energy supplies are tight and prices high.

The pipeline has traditionally carried more than one third of Russia's gas exports to Europe but was operating at only 40% of its capacity after Kremlin-controlled Gazprom cut gas exports in a row over the repair of a turbine. "In view of the missing 60% (capacity) and the political instability, there is no reason yet to give the all-clear," Klaus Mueller, president of Germany's network regulator, wrote on Twitter.

European Union Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has accused Russia of trying to blackmail Europe by using energy as a weapon, something Moscow, which is unable to swiftly redirect all of its gas to other markets, has denied.

Russian gas is under Russian clay; and since Russia has control of it, they will do as they please with it, it's not rocket surgery.

The irony being that they will spend more money trying to collections hound it and plead for bailouts with lobbying instead of netting free PR and maintaining more money than they would otherwise lose from total non payment if they instituted a temporary "hardship rate" of half off.

It'd literally be a drop in the bucket to them to just say "fuck it, everyone's charges for the month of July are considered paid in full, and if you already paid your July bill, we're refunding your payment. Have one on us for once." No postponement, no "zero-interest loan," just literally "it's fuckin' paid this month."

Imagine the goodwill that would generate. Any of these billion-dollar companies could do this. Imagine Citi saying they'll randomize a big list of all their credit accounts with a non-zero balance with payments due, and for every ten thousandth account on that list they'll just make the minimum payment for the account holder.

Just doing that once would be enough to ease a shitload of tension, take the "edge" off a bit so people aren't so close to the edge of "fuck it let's just kill the bankers" territory and have a genuinely positive impact. Massive PR win.

But they won't. Because fuck you, that's their money you owe and you'd better fuckin' pay up.

As it has been well over a hundred times throughout recorded history, their greed will be their undoing.

It is their money you owe for utilizing their service. They have every right to enforce contracts with their customers just like you do in your own life when it comes to contracts.

I don’t get the mentality of if it’s a big company they can just give away money. That’s not how real life works and you should know it if you’re old enough to post here.

This is the sort of thing that bankers think shortly before getting lynched.

The reason, if you're not a financial autist, is that a company's large profit margins amidst a time of scarcity and stress allow it to endure a small hit for the good of the broader society which tolerates and enables it, and whose good it is at least theoretically supposed to serve. Or, if you are, consider it a chunk out of the company's PR budget.

Sounds like socialism to me. These publicly traded companies would also have to answer to their shareholders why they are giving money away to the general public instead of paying dividends.

I’m not a brilliant financial mind but I can see that.

Dude, in the twenties people like Henry Ford built libraries, stadiums, and even public infrastructure like subways. When's the last time an American corporation did anything for the public good instead of leeching the wealth out of the nation, stashing it in offshore bank accounts, and using their money to fund illegal immigration, troon degeneracy, and anti white propaganda?

Corporations were more beneficial and socially conscious a hundred years ago when there were actual literal robber barons and monopolies.

Cellphones are one of the biggest fucking scams on the planet, they are over priced trash that people have become so addicted to that they can not manage ten minutes away from their stupid little ding dong box because they might miss a call or a text.

You completely missed my point. I am well aware it's their money owed. I was supporting/expanding on the suggestion that maybe cutting their impoverished customers the slightest bit of slack would be a less costly effort as a PR win than the usual practice of aggressively pursuing collections and lobbying for harsher laws.

Carry on with the Jewish interpretation as you wish, though. That's always worked out so well for them.

Yeah you're the kind of brilliant financial mind who thinks that spending 200 dollars on a collections agency to get 100 dollars out of a temporarily distressed customer, losing their business for good and generating negative PR is a good idea instead. Fuck long term consequences and fuck thinking about the future or the consequences of your actions - that's socialism! I'm not defending it so much as giving a you get what you deserve type of argument here.

If these corporations are so evil why do people keep purchasing their products and supporting them? I'm sort of playing devil's advocate here because I don't by any means support big business - but I also have the common sense to take my money elsewhere. If a whole nation of people don't have that same level of principle I say fuck them.

Telecoms and utility companies collective take in billions for upgrades they super duper pinky swear are going to be rolled out any time now. They have been doing this since at least the 90s. Very little upgrading of infrastructure has been done.

The days of someone successful actually doing something to give back to the society that granted him his success are long gone.

Because said corporations have a lock on the market, and most people just want a happy, peaceful life with their bread and circus, over actually having to do it all from scratch. You can't get away from it unless you go full Uncle Ted's Cabin.

Is anyone really still paying extortionate prices for phones in 2022? I thought that ended the better part of a decade ago.

I buy a basic $200-250 phone every 3-ish years and pay $5 a month for one of the Verizon MVNOs.
